The orders were placed before anyone knew if the vaccine would be effective or how effective it would be. That had to be done, no option. Other countries we’re starting to place advance orders and if the government had delayed, we would have been further down the queue facing a vaccine shortage, like many EU countries. Fortunately, nearly all the vaccines our government reviewed and put faith in have turned out to be winners, hence the over supply. It could easily have gone the other way. They did a good job here.

Your ridiculous comments regarding going for the cheapest are just that, ridiculous. The AZ vaccine is a British invention, so it’s only right to back something developed in your own back yard. Unlike other countries, the U.K. realise that as many people on the planet need vaccine as possible, hence the AZ vaccine is a not for profit product. This makes it cheaper than vaccine produced by other countries / companies who seek to profit from Coronavirus.

The U.K. will have more vaccine than it needs, and the government has signalled an intent to give away the surplus to other nations that need it or can’t afford it. All geared towards vaccinating as many people as possible. We may even end up giving some to France and rightly so.

The AZ may be slightly less effective at blocking symptoms, if unlucky you may develop a sniffle, but it is at least equal to anything else in terms of keeping you alive and out of hospital. Those two factors are 99.99% of the objective. So it’s a winner.

I’ll say the same to you as I did to the Leprechaun. There is a large number of people who are either sceptical or nervous about vaccination. We need them to take it or else the point of you or I being vaccinated is diminished.

Posting the twisted hate filled sort of bull $hit you have done above contributes nothing. It’s incorrect, it’s dangerous and it is silly. I personally know many people who are giving up large amounts of their time and taking some level of personal risk volunteering at vaccination centres. The AZ vaccine is a British invention,

If you want to vent whatever pent up anti-U.K. frustrations you harbour, find another topic and stay off vaccination. You are injuring people.

The U.K. is doing well with it’s vaccination efforts and it’s the only way out of this hole. Show some support.
The AZ vaccine is a British invention, actually it is the invention of gifted people being "British" is plain BS
Credit the people not some fictional virtue o it being "British"
"The AZ vaccine is a British invention, "
Well done, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried, and for someone who is always very trying though being a bigot, that is saying something.
First of all what I asked for has nothing to do with any of this statement
"Posting the twisted hate filled sort of bull $hit you have done above contributes nothing. It’s incorrect, it’s dangerous and it is silly. "
So stop doing it you fool!
I simply pointed out the risks that were being taken by a government that has managed to kill more of us than any enemy and you seem to want to find reasons to admire them in their madness.
We are being forced taking unknown risks to make a dangerous government popular and due to people like you who don't bother to think rationally the popularity of the most dangerous group of people working against the safety and future prospects of the nation has actually increased

Don't moralise with me after voting for the public enemies you are part of the problem not the solution

Kate Bingham is probably the person with most responsibility towards the success of our vaccine roll out. She has also been the target of severe criticism from our dear Labour Party and the media doing its bidding. The way she has been treated is disgraceful.
Captain Hindsight and his no2 had a go at her for not going with EU vaccination scheme. No mention of their errors or apologies from them now.

All of that applies equally to all the new Covid-19 vaccine. We are in the early stages of large scale inoculation, so a clearer picture will develop over time.

I believe the very rare side effects are confined to the Pfizer vaccine. I’m hearing that with the AZ product there is no reports of reaction, in fact you are allowed to leave immediately after the jab.

I am perfectly content to receive whatever vaccine product is available at the time of my appointment. I’m also happy to extend the interval to the second dose if it means another person can receive a level of protection they otherwise would not have had.

We need to cut out all of the amateur commentary on vaccine effectiveness that’s starting to creep onto these pages. Groaner with his snippets from Communist’s Weekly is a danger.
Yes I am indeed a danger by not ending up as irrational as you have become over the subject, and just a cheerleader for this dangerous government you are responsible for.
How dare I question their right to hazard the nation in the way they do?
Because reality has a habit of biting you in the backside if you take risky decisions in a state of panic as this country is now.

What is it that you are suggesting here?

What risk is the government compelling you to take?

Are you actually suggesting that the vaccine has been developed and approved recklessly with little regard for public safety? Rushed into distribution at the expense of public safety in order to make the government appear competent?

I’d like you to address those questions directly please.

The media doing the Labour parties bidding?
What???
In the FT
Kate Bingham, the head of the UK government’s vaccine task force, is to step down from her post at the end of the year amid criticism of a £670,000 bill she ran up with a boutique PR company.
And this
The Sunday Times reported that Ms Bingham had shared “official sensitive” documents in a presentation to a $200-a-head virtual conference for women in private equity.

So we can conclude she did a good job, but sure as hell coined it in in the process

Of which there was none, so we hazarded a guess
Could you imagine if we’d waited until December 2020 when the trial data was published and licensing authority approved before ordering anything? We would not be receiving a drop of vaccine until around June / July 2021 at the earliest. No one would be vaccinated until well after then.

You are a very dangerous man.

Stop being dim it's getting monotonous, 12 weeks delay when 4 weeks specified.
Clear enough?

Simply that it wasn't approved with a 12 week delay to second jab

Are you saying it wasn't?
Pure coincidence when they were on the ropes eh?

I, m afraid he doesn't see the damage he does. He just sees it as speaking his mind, for which there is a time. But it is not in the middle of a pandemic with literally thousands of people dying. He passes that off as somebody else's responsibility. Blame Boris. He doesn't see his attitudes, actions and comments are part of the problem.
He has worked tirelessly to undermine everything the government has tried to do, it simply becomes more focused with the vaccine topic. Its easier to spot what affect such attitudes have.
Amazing thing is he takes all the advantages with open arms. Just criticises after the event.
OG seriously, you are sounding very very foolish. Give up.

Even the Guardian now seeing EU at fault..
Amazing isn't it. The only 2 people in the world not critical of EU's roll out and actions with UK post on here.
constrast the behaviour of the EU with our government's about the Irish border.
We passed the Internal Market Bill whereas the EU piped down nearly immediately, at least as soon as the first reaction on attempting to impose export control on vaccine is touted.
Imagine for a minute that AZ Wrexham factory ship their vaccine to the EU.
Would the right wing tabloids have demanded export control?

Anyone notice?

UK applying to join Asia-Pacific free trade pact CPTPP
This should be fun
"The chapter on state-owned enterprises (SOEs) is unchanged, requiring signatories to share information about SOEs with each other, with the intent of engaging with the issue of state intervention in markets. It includes the most detailed standards for intellectual property of any trade agreement, as well as protections against intellectual property theft against corporations operating abroad "

"The UK government has not produced an impact assessment that explains or quantifies the benefits it expects for the UK economy from accession to CPTPP. As such, it is a matter of dispute in UK as to whether accession is worth pursuing for economic reasons. Farmer, environmental and consumer groups have all raised concerns that the UK government will need to agree to lowering standards on pesticides, pig welfare and food labelling. These concerns have also been raised by the Scottish government."

"And it's all done in the best possible haste"
With no doubt the usual results

It has been rushed because it has to be.
The reasons behind the delay have been well explained, are justifiable and its a pointless repitive argument now. Yes, we know you wanted your second jab earlier.
There are millions and millions still awaiting their first... Billions in fact. Grow up.

Not me sunshine! you two clowns gaslighting for the government illustrate perfectly the problem we face.

As a nation we tend not to face the problem and sort it out, hoping dumb luck will see us through.

The delay is a scientific decision. In any group of 1000 people, we either choose to give all 1000 a level of protection that will stop them dying or needing to go into hospital, or we protect 500 as above, plus from developing any symptoms like a sniffle and and let the other 500 take their chances, possibly die.

The above is based on some of the best vaccination capacity of any country in the world. Those are the options. The leading non political medical experts in the U.K. suggest vaccination of the entire 1000 group at the expense of delaying the second dose.

I agree with the medical experts. I disagree strongly with you. You are being a fool.

You are the one that needs to do that, by trying to make out it is simply personal greed on my part.
Why does your twisted little mind do that?
I am concerned for everyone, not just myself, yet you two are unable to think in that fashion.
The period to the second jab affects us all and should not be left to chance.
Tell me, how do you come to a "scientific " decision with no evidence to support it?
You don't, you just take a chance and hope people fall for the notion that the person taking the decision's letters after their name somehow makes their blind guess better than the next man or woman in the street, especially if you are a politician and that decision gets you out of a hole you have dug for yourself.

Got that?
