Lazy is double edged term. When one is organised , it doesn't look much different than lazy.. except that people are not racing around chasing their tails. Things just get done. The inflexibility bit ... Is also very true a few years ago a I had just changed the 4 car tyres to fresh ones, and went to France. So there was only 1000 miles on the tyres. . I noticed a nick on a front wheel sidewall, .. a bit more than a scuff as there was a sliver of rubber detached. Anyway I went to get it replaced, assuming that getting a Michelen replacement would be easy . Well the garage did not have an exact replacement model, and refused point blank to put even a single very near model on. Basically he would only replace both or none. It got quite heated for a while . But no way would he budge. In the end I gave in and got the two ,..and a respect for his integrity
Integrity! He had your trousers down and your balls on a trowel :D:D:D

He could have quite legally and safely sold you a single tyre. He prayed on your vulnerability and that is pure French.

Integrity in the name of profit?? And rather poor for environment. Throwing away not one probably perfectly good tyre... But two..
Tyres should be changed by necessity. Three for price of two etc type bargains should be banned.
There is a lot of rubbish talked about tyres not matching. Same size, same profile, same speed rating, same construction (cross/radial) and correct pressure... Fine.
The point was he was fully prepared to let me go elsewhere .. That is the integrity bit. He was not prepared to put his name to a kludge. . You might , he wasn't. Yes The defective tyre was probably OK, and the other was certainly OK. I would expect that he did sell the good tyre eventually to another customer. France maintains an extremely efficient spare parts distribution network..and much stricter consumer protection guarantees than the UK. ..and people really hold them to it. The type of haphazard arrangements in a Halfords or Currys just would not happen.
The point I was really making was that he would not be flexible ,or stretch a point. Right was right , nearly is not the same as right. And in retrospect ,I would go back to that garage.

Countries we should be compared to are France etc.. Or look at Isle of Man... Life normal there. There are reasons.
And one is the stupidity of many on our shores.
Our local primary school had a report that a parent had had a +ve cvd test. Head approached the lady who insisted she had not. Feeling suspicious head phoned Tand T. Turned out lady in question had a +ve test 12 days earlier, along with all her 3 children, all of whom never missed a day in school. Children were told to stay home... For 2 days. Isolation was almost finished. And yet we blame Boris/ Government. Well some do.
We need an anti stupid Vaccine but the stupid would refuse it.
The fact is Boris is personally responsible for mishandling the Pandemic and as a result of that caused many deaths, no one disputes that Human stupidity too has cost many lives, and most of those losses can be related to voting this master con man into power

When we left France (had house near Perpignan for 10 years) it wasn't worth bringing Renault home. It failed CT so we decided to scrap it. Took it to local "reprocessing plant". Scrapped vehicle, got 150 Euros for it along with 3 certificates declaring vehicle scrapped. One needed to close insurance, one to Mare's office to notify authorities, one for our records. All done according to protocol.
6 months later we got, in UK, a speeding ticket dated 3 months after we scrapped vehicle. Sent copy of certificate and contacted authorities to explain situation. They doubled fine.
French integrity. I, d have a bet with you Danidl your undamaged but replaced tyre will have been cleaned and put into stock. (and, I bet they charged you a disposal fee)
??? That's how French business operates. Our house and land sale was even more corrupt than scrapping car!!??
Well one doesn't have to go to France for that. I had a Renault Scenic , which was rear ended by a Ford Transit. ..and an insurance write off. stopped at traffic light and he let the clutch out and hit me at about 5mph Car worked fine of course but neither boot nor rear doors would open., Such ws the crumpled damage. So I had it legitimately scrapped and got the insurance cheque for my new car. All paperwork legitimate. A week later, I heard it s distinctive put put ..it was an older diesel engine as it pulled into the shopping centre near me. ..a about 5 Romanians got out. ...from the front doors Some 4 weeks later, I got a fixed notice traffic fine indicating it had been parked at a beach .. sent in a photocopy of my cessation certificate ,end of story and no fine. So I trust you did not pay the fine.

If you’re happy for some French chancer to have your balls on a builders trowel and to jiggle them up and down, that’s your business. He’s done a number on you.

I don’t shop at Curry’s or Halfords, but I hear their no quibble returns policy is very good.

I went with a friend to buy a Mac Book from a French computer shop about three years ago. He specified an English keyboard after being assured by the shop that they were authorised Apple dealers and in effect were an Apple store.

The computer arrived with an international keyboard and after much wrangling, many lies and even more broken promises, we discovered the store were nothing to do with Apple at all, just a reseller. They tried to refuse a refund or any assistance. The only way my friend got his refund was after he took a group of soldiers in the shop and pinned the greasy bastard to the wall by his throat threatening his future wellbeing.

Untrustworthy, difficult liars sums French businesses up, pretty much like your tyre man.

I, d agree they certainly have more stringent rules. Enforcing them, well that's different.
I used to take my Enduro motorbike into foothills of Pyrenees, would transport it there in the van. Went one day and to my shock a sign had gone up in an attempt to ban all motorised vehicles. I ignored it and had a great afternoon. On my return Gendarme and local Police car were parked beside van. Oh no, I assumed. Big fine coming. Put bike in back and when finished the pair (A Gendarme and local officer) came to speak.
Asked where I lived, what I was doing and if I, d enjoyed it. Asked about bike (It was a very old rebuilt Villiers/Coton)... Really pleasant. They went to leave, so I asked about the new sign.
"Oh, ignore that, villagers asked us to put it up but we aren't doing anything about it"...
It cuts both ways... But that is the French way. Appear all official and controlling but really its a free for all. Great in situations as above but when you are selling stuff like houses and land... Its a nightmare. Ask how many people buy houses outside with cash in brown envelopes then sign indoors for a completely different amount...
We approached 2 immobilisers to sell a relatively small piece of land. One quoted 10,000 euro and the other 2000. We went with latter. Land sold. Our immobiliser got in touch to say other one had found seller and decided to share the "new" commission. He took 5000 from sale and shared it with his competitor. French Integrity. We couldn't do a thing. Much as we tried. I have other stories... Much the same.

No, I didn't but have had communication explaining on my return to France event will be dealt with... No idea what that means but much as I can't see them locking me up at Calais it isn't very encouraging with respect to the their "authorities".

That's rubbish and dangerous OG. No government could have avoided this. Yes, perhaps lockdown earlier or stronger. Who knows. Starmer in charge?? Or perhaps IDS?
All the time Boris has been between devil and deep blue sea. One faction telling us Covid is no worse than flu and destroying economy is worse than cvd... to other extreme like Ferguson saying 500,000 deaths... And in mean time folk partying, ignoring isolation, burning down 5g masts and believing utter rubbish..
Or perhaps he should have listened to Sweden?? Or Brazil?? Or Trump.
Personally think Government have done well in an appallingly difficult time. Its easy to criticise, sitting here healthy, waiting for upcoming vaccine. Which, I, d guess you, ve had.

You are probably correct and the fact that he and his minions are still doing laps of honour and applauding themselves doesn't give much confidence that anything will improve.

The UK is now at least three weeks ahead of the EU in the vaccination process which undeniably will save lives. Had we been waiting for EU vaccine approval, the programme would not yet have started, which would have cost lives. You could say that the early days of Brexit has saved many lives, what happens in the longer term remains to be seen.

Its all going to revolve around what MHRA say about Astra Zeneca. Hopefully on 28th...
The 3 week delay sums up the problem with EU, its so large it can't make decisions quickly. USA have had same problem.
I already know more folk who have had the vaccine than who have had cvd 19..yep that's not as a result of government but they have played their part.
And Twitter and such have helped the anti vaccers with their rubbish... (rumoured 1 in 5 in London are refusing vaccine, I suppose that's Boris' fault too.???
OG stop reading Guardian. Its beyond useless.

The lorries, the majority of which originated from the continent, were stuck because of a French manufactured situation.Tiny little Mr Micron strategically shut the border to cause maximum disruption to continental Europe nations in the run up to Christmas. He dishonestly used the new Coronavirus strain as covering fire. That strain was already in France and he knew it. Truckers passing through France, isolated in their cabs would have made no difference, and Micron knew that too.

The above is a classic example of the French’s oily, dishonest treachery. No guts to be up front with their grievances, but resorting to their national characteristics of back stabbing and surrender.

The wonderful British military came to the rescue though, sorted it out and got the truckers home. Top job as always.

He doesn't need to. They have both ample support and unfortunately diminishing opposition.
Folk have not woken up to the fact that, Labour have not only destroyed themselves they have undermined the entire system in doing so. Between Corbyn, Unite, McClusky and St armer Labour opposition has completely gone.
Its the first time in British politics we only have the choice of one party. In the past the demise of a second party has led to a resurrecting of the third. This has not happened. We have a one party system. Democracy is dead. Blame Labour and not the tories for taking advantage of their demise.
Crazy thing is OG comes on here and blames Boris for perhaps making allowances for his extreme right rebels. Fact is the Tory party should need to be opposing the 2nd party, with not having one, he is fighting his own rebels. They are providing the opposition, Boris ironically is playing the part socialists should be doing.

More nonsense from you both. My health trust centre was the first in the UK to get the vaccine and that was triumphantly featured on TV. We were told our local priority groups of health and care workers and all over 80s would get their jabs before Xmas.

I'm on the 'flu vaccine contact list but haven't had any contact, let alone any jab.

I'm betting it's the same for OG. The way things fail to get organised in this country I'm fully expecting to have to eventually do the contacting, even though they've asked we don't. Or maybe die first, since Santa's present for me this year was a painful tachycardial heart attack at 04.11 on Christmas day, the 13th such event in 2020.

Again not dissimilar. There is a beauty spot along the Cote Sauvage near Quiberon, which I quite fancy.. crashing waves , view over to Belle Ils. So we parked car, took the picnic ,my daughter and I and sat on the rocks for a while . We saw the Town Police ..they are not exactly the Gendarme National, ticketing cars and so I made my way over there was a policeman there and everytime he saw me, he studiously turned away ..It was almost comical, but I can take a hint. .so we packed up the chairs and drove off. . Irish car registration...
Now I don't know how familiar you are with French property law, but they have very different rules than in the UK.

I, m truly sorry to hear that flecc, both the heart problem and lack of vaccine. My daughters (one health care worker, other first responder fire service) and all the people over 80 I know (approx 6) have had the current vaccine. Two NHS nurses on our street are training as we speak in preparedness for Astra Zeneca vaccine arrival. All my family have quite a while ago had flu jabs.???
How many on here have had Cvd vaccine.???
And, just for info. After a very successful heart ablation a year last August my AF has returned in vengeance. Back on full medication awaiting further surgery.

Yep, I feel a, little like that. My AF return was accompanied by 2 mini strokes but fortunately no lasting damage. Getting older with mis spent youth??? But better than alternative I suppose but had to reduce biking, sailing etc etc...
