Quarantining visitors does not make sense in the UK as there are few countries in the world worse hit by coronavirus, according to a government advisor.

Oldgroaner@oldgroaner

My goodness! Is one of the "positive" benefits of the Present policy of allowing Covid 19 to complete it's ethic cleansing of the old weak and poor that we can now afford to assist the virus in wiping out those people this government advisor deems surplus?
Ok folks, we know it is really bad. But we can't see any argument for trying to stop it getting worse (or not getting better).

You know what Cummings would say...If we lose a few, who cares the remainder will develop a sort of Herd Immunity that will come in handy it it comes to a Nuclear conflict.
Win win o_O
Cummings would be totally failing to understand herd immunity if he said that.

.... So quite possibly... :)

Cycling is getting a boost then! They should have pushed e-bikes more, not e-scooters. That’s a mistake.

However it won’t last. First rainy day and all of these newdoers will jack it in and revert to being angry behind the car wheel, snarling at cyclists. Oh the great British public.

Government to fast track e scooters in to use. Pedelecs become irrelevant.
Until the death rate becomes apparent. On the roads they'll become the victims, if the government changes its mind and lets them use the pavements (very unlikely), it'll be the pedestrians who'll be the victims.

Is the government’s investment in electric car charging points really an incentive to buy one? I don’t hold public charging points near the top of my list of concerns. A 20% grant towards the purchase costs might help.

I really don’t understand the e-scooter decision. It’s another poor decision and more evidence that they are clueless.

There is very little understanding of ebikes amongst the public and many still think they are for spazers. Some positive publicity and education about how to use ebikes would make sense.

E-cars don't need a boost, they've been selling as fast as they are made.

The UK’s electric vehicle market performed superbly compared to the rest of the market, against a backdrop of falling overall sales hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak. In the first full month of lock-down, pure-EVs were down just 10% in April 2020 – taking 32% market share – whilst all other fuel types were down more than 90%.

I wonder if SW on his moped & Farage in his jag got away in time ...

Conspiracy theorists arrested after anti-lockdown protest in London

The protesters who gathered in central London were emotional. Many were angry and distrustful of the police, government and media - although most were polite when I spoke to them.

They had placards and leaflets detailing a wide range of conspiracy theories - their targets included 5G technology, Bill Gates and vaccinations. Some clustered in front of our camera and joined arms in defiance of social distancing.

Small groups of up to 40 or 50 people gathered at various points in the capital in the morning.

Our team saw arrests in St James’s Park, near the Accident and Emergency department of St Thomas’ Hospital, and outside the Houses of Parliament. The Metropolitan Police reported 14 arrests.

A police statement said: “Despite repeated attempts by officers to engage with the group, explain the current restrictions and encourage them to go home a number refused to leave.”

Just let them get on with it, the virus will consume them and then they won’t be a source of irritation any longer.

Surely they have to be kidding? perhaps they need to fit the Nightingale centre as an A&E unit?

Does anyone in government have shares or other interests in e-scooter firms?

It was intended to fire the public into breaking the lockdown so Johnson wouldn't have to take the responsibility, then claim "It was the patriotic will of the people to risk all to save the economy" while he made suitable weak protests against it: Classic Dom

They are just the beefed up kids things.

I think the government are mad to consider them being on the roads with motor traffic, they obviously can't allow them on pavements.

There's a couple of American suppliers of these who've been pressuring for them to be legalised, as they are in some EU countries.

And of course our government is keen to keep the Americans onside to get a good trade agreement to replace some of the EU trade we are going to lose.
