Brexit, for once some facts.

I’ve been out running this morning and the traffic on the edge of town was horrendous. I think the lockdown, that never was a proper lockdown, is over.

I think Johnson’s re-emerging has something to do with this. He had to come back the hero didn’t he, claiming we were doing well and were succeeding in the fight against Coronavirus. The United Kingdom is doing very badly, worse than any other country in the world. We aren’t beating the virus, he needs to keep his gob shut and stay out of view. I suspect he will be doing plenty of the latter when the questions are asked.

The members do not get paid.

And you know what they say about free advice being worth what you pay for it.

And you have to ask why anyone would accept nomination as an adviser? They must see some benefit - whether a higher profile, being seen to do what your boss wants you to do, being visible when grants and contracts are awarded, etc. (I'm not even meaning they are individually doing anything terrible - it is just how things happen.)
They receive titles and favours. That’s what they are chasing at that level. Cash isn’t usually an issue for them.

I’ve still not heard or seen Lord Cunty McCuntwhistle, Matt Handcock’s special appointment to get PPE sorted. He’s been in post for a month and FA has happened, he’s said FA and FA has been seen of him. What a ****.

Search doesn't see him even mentioned in the news for ten days.

Submit as today's Q from a member of the public?

I might do if I have time. A question like that, phrased more suitably for teatime viewing of course, would never get selected. They are only picking questions from northern grannies who want to know when they can next hug their grandchildren.

Asking why Cuntwhistle is tossing it off somewhere and not doing his job properly is going to be a wasted effort.

Evening Standard:
Boris and his latest victim announce the birth of a healthy boy

Bang goes the possibility of bad news tomorrow and possibly the whole week

This will provide good covering fire when they slip out the true Coronavirus death toll later today.

The arrival of his bastard is already higher up the news bulletins than the death toll.

As if anyone could possibly consider the approach had been perfect!

God knows (we don't, thanks to poor statistics) how many have died. Still less do we know how many deaths would have allowed the approach to be counted "perfect".

Yes, we all know that sometimes things come out not as meant. But this mob has a predilection for making sure almost every utterance is capable of insulting, upsetting and denigrating the rest of the country.

A cabinet minister has acknowledged the government focused more on the NHS than care homes in the early stages of the outbreak, as the UK prepares to publish daily death figures for the community as well as hospitals.

As the outbreak continues to worsen in care homes, George Eustice, the environment secretary, defended the government’s handling of the crisis for older people, while acknowledging its approach had not been “perfect”.

In same article:

On the same programme, Prof John Newton, the government’s coordinator on testing, said he was “pretty confident” that the target of 100,000 tests a day would be hit by the end of the week.

Tests performed? Valid tests performed? People tested? Testing capacity theoretically available? And it was supposed to be by the end of the month - not this week (and would that be Friday, Saturday or Sunday?)

the real issue for science is do we develop immunity against CV? if we do, how long for?
but if we don't? what then?
No. We did not develop immunity to the black death or to smallpox..we eliminated them. The challenge is to do the same for CV19.
The big problem with CV19 is its sneakyness... . Infectious before evident symptoms . Interestingly one of the telltale symptoms in China appears missing in Irish sufferers, ..fever. This was flagged up by the most senior virologist in Ireland yesterday.

Virtual extinction, with a small minority of individuals resistant to all strains left to continue the human race at a lower scale and level of existence.

As I’ve mentioned before, the FFP3 mask allows unfiltered exhaled air straight through the valve. As far as I can see, the FFP3 does nothing to protect anyone except the wearer. The valve is fitted to deliberately allow the air we exhale to exit the mask quickly, and thus make it more comfortable to wear. Without the valve, the air has to pass back through the filter, which causes a buildup of condensation on the inside surface.

To pretend that masks offer negligible protection is a crime. Dame Lady Cuntwhistle, or whoever, has been bought and paid for by the government. She is deliberately telling people not to wear them to save the government from further embarrassment over PPE. She is putting politics ahead of her duty to save lives.

The answer is to look at a competent government like Germany and encourage the widespread wearing of masks in combination with making them available.
On this topic BS we are more in agreement than disagreement. Distance beats masks always ..the Maths shows it. But if one is confined into the same restricted volume of air, a mask will provide some protection. A fresh simple fabric cotton mask eg tee shirt will reduce virus transmission by 50% a double thickness about 66% . The better industrial grade N95 types reduce transfer to 5% for a few hours..but is harder to breathe through . A Miele vacuum bag, an excellent 1%, .. unfortunately it takes a lot of effort to breathe through it. . And yes these are researched numbers...
If I was a bus driver, I would wear a mask, replaced every hour or so, want a plastic wall between me and the passengers, and have my window open.
As a driver in a private car, I would not wear a mask, but keep the air conditioning on, as it draws air via a HEPA filter, and drive Windows closed.

Higher up the HoC agenda as well:

Dominic Raab offers his congratulations to the PM and his fiancee.

He offers his condolences to the families and friends of the 85 NHS workers and 23 social care workers who have died with coronavirus.

Are they completely unable to understand how sickening that is to the families, etc., of the 85 + 23?

Don't answer, it is obvious that they are unable.

They are doing that thing again when referring to THE baby. They are dropping THE. Mother and baby, how is baby, Ms Symons and baby etc. I’d prefer them to call it Boris’s bastard.

If nothing else it would be a laugh at the daily briefing:
"Here we have a question for the Health Secretary from a member of the public who goes by the name of Barry Shittpeas, Minister can you inform us of the whereabouts of Lord Cunty McCuntwhistle over the past two weeks?"
In addition to the whereabouts of Lord McCuntwhistle, could the Minister as a matter of urgency dispatch a consignment of biscuits, porn mags and toilet roll to Soundwave, a well loved are respected contributor to an e-bike forum;)
