But the current mob are, as the tories always are, chock full of Etonians, etc.
I reckon they are worried that the bill for COVID is so big that they will be made to pay a fair chunk of it.
Imagine Kier Starmer winning the 2024 election.

My imagination is running riot wondering if he could win the 2021 election?

Has Johnson yet got rid of the fixed term parliament act?

The government is actually supposed to look after the interests of all of us.

Their views as to how they can and should achieve that, obviously, can be at variance to others, such as the the opposition! But the current mob are, as the tories always are, chock full of Etonians, etc.
This shower prefer to tell us what our interests were (backdated and amended)

No, it's still only a Queen's speech announcment for this term. It needs an act of parliament for the change.

But Covid has messed up Boris Johnsons's plans. He clearly envisaged a giveaway for popularity and had started that, meaning to then run to the country at three years to win the popular vote.

But the Covid fiasco and death and job loss rates means there's no chance of that now, so even if he does get the change of term, he's still likely to hang on for five years in the hope of something turning up to rescue him.

Boris is falling into the trap his hero Churchill warned about

"including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. "

This is the result of selling the notion to the public that Villains will change their ways and act as statesmen.
You can't help but wonder how the people who OWN Boris and co feel about the economic ruin his mistakes are making to their once glittering prize

And with cronies like Patel and Raab? fat chance.
He is entertaining in good time but lost in a crisis.

Testing numbers prediction:

Tuesday 28 April - 50,000 tests
Wednesday 29 April - 12,000 tests
Thursday 30 April - 100,001 tests
Friday 1 May - 15,000 tests
Saturday 2 May - 25,000 tests

That is, they will hold back on Wednesday, even to the extent of delaying tests (or at making sure the statistics don't make it out), in order to hit the "by May" 100,000 on Thursday. And who cares how many after that?

A millionaire barrister, unless he or she came from a very monied background, would tend to be a smart cookie.
Well I suppose he has actually had a job and actually done something. That alone makes him almost unique in current political circles.

My neighbour has solved one of the problems of social distancing re: going out in the sun. She's set up two paddling pools outside, one for herself & partner and another for all the local children to jump into...what a great idea :)
Hang on though....I can see a problem here.

....and the other good news is, this now eases social distancing measures for other people too, because if she can do it, why can’t others follow suit?

I don't know if you've noticed, but there's invariably a significant difference between what #BorisJohnson's Government says they'll do and what they actually do. And, on the very rare occasion they do what they say, it's usually too late. Is this by design or just incompetence?

oldroaner@oldgroaner
Both! Boris and co are "Custom Designed to be incompetent" by a class privilege system designed to promote them light years above their actual talent, and make them too arrogant to understand that fact

I think they are still going for herd immunity. They tired it the official route and it didn't go down too well, so now they are doing it by stealth and the public are eagerly joining in by killing themselves.

Just referring back to my earlier post about the neighbour with two paddling pools one being for the kids.
My main reason for mentioning it was not so much that it was a good idea, although it has it's virtues but the drawback being every kid in the neighbourhood would join in therefore social distancing goes out the window.
Normally it's good to have kids all mixing in together but at this moment in time is it advisable ?
