EU to pool members' health resources

The European Union has announced a series of measures to pool resources among its 27 members in order to help to fight coronavirus and protect national health services across the Continent.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, said the aim was to ramp up the production of protective equipment like masks and suits, and to prevent it being exported outside of the bloc without authorisation from EU governments.

Under the measures, equipment would be shared across EU members instead of each country making it for their own use.

Germany has ordered an additional 10,000 ventilators from a domestic supplier and France is conducting a nationwide survey into its own stocks including outside the public health system as it anticipates shortages.

So no wonder Boris Johnson has had to go to JCB to ask if they can suddenly make ventilators.

That's what I've been brain storming with other club members in a risk assessment / practicalities way as I have a cricket league meeting in a couple of days (if even that goes ahead!)

Changing rooms & teas bring players in close proximity

Plus impact of player availability could make getting enough players a problem - some due to work/ other commitments / elderly relatives balanced against maintaining sanity and stave off boredom for however long this lasts into Spring and Summer.

The measures the Govt / Health experts are coming up with they realise that effectiveness is only as good as people abide by them and not getting fatigued & lax following it over the duration.

You know its serious when this is announced >>

Ireland's government has called for the closure of all pubs and bars in the country from this evening "until at least 29 March".

In a statement, it also called on members of the public to refrain from organising or going to parties "in private houses or other venues which would put other people's health at risk".
The Irish Government were extremely angry with behaviour in an area of Dublin called Temple Bar..a recently manufactured synthetic ethnic area built around a network of old streets, much favoured by British Stag parties and of course our own louts . There were previously quoted guidelines of no more than 100 in a indoor venue, but this area was defying that rule. Anyway they made their displeasure known and these Bars will be shut from today. Virtually all other areas have been in compliance since Thursday last. .. The Irish Mammy and the Irish Granny are formidable forces in Irish society..so doing anything to offend Granny is not cricket ..as you say.

The word exclusive is positively frightening. His plan is to get it to the USA (or at least a promise) before the presidential election. Then to extort as much as he can from what is left of the rest of the world.

He is an enemy.

:D. Yes, I see that in the London Irish extended family I'm friends with. Even the daughters can be pretty ferocious!

Why JCB? I’m struggling to work out what manufacturing capabilities and expertise they possess to make the transition from diggers to ventilators an obvious choice.

Could just be more noise, BS and window dressing.

I'm sure we can all imagine the result!

Bright yellow ventilators running on hydraulics.

But why has it taken until now to even count available ventilators? (Or that is how it comes across.)

And is no-one able to see the export potential? There will be a worldwide shortage for quite some time.

From what I could understand about this on the BBC News channel, they were saying during the transition period we would still be treated the same as the other 27 and not like a 3rd type country. I suspect this will not be mentioned by the government or most of the Tory press, as people might just start to ask why on earth are we leaving.
