I think many of us living today fail to realise how privileged we actually are. Up to the start of the 20th century , the people..by which was meant poor people were viewed as sheep to be led by their betters. The US to its credit did at first promise fairness to the huddled masses ..mind you at a time they still practiced slavery on people with black and yellow skin. (The behaviour of the US to the Chinese immigrants on the west coast appalling)

We still have forced sterilisation in Europe today. It may be less obvious and more subtle, but preventing the disabled from having full lives, ,by segregation of the mentally retarded is essentially that policy.
