I think you'll find that overall the cash flow is from the south to the north. Like it is from the UK mainland to N. Ireland for example. We have more money down here because there are more higher paying jobs. Which generates more cash in taxes etc. Which gives us more money to spend. I could be wrong but I don't think I am.

That's nonsense, London alone contributes $50 billions annually to the rest of the country from its financial services income, and most of that goes northwards.
Then there's the substantially larger taxes paid from southerners higher earnings
Yes, London and the South East do get more spent, but it's from our own earnt money and not from elsewhere.

That's obfuscation OG, using terms like "relative" and picking on lowest tax points in the capital. Londoners pay very comparable council tax for properties that are a fraction of the size in most areas, often only a room or two.
A nd North Yorkshire with its many wealthy residents has been deliberately chosen. My well off nephew Mark lives there in semi retirement so I am acquainted. The comparison should be with an equally privileged area here.
As I showed in post 41567, London already pays vast sums to other parts, especially the North. The North's idea of fairness is that we should pay even more to meet their needs, but why should we carry them? Despite the huge amounts we've paid over the years there never seems to be any economic improvement up there.

When you do some research and discover that London And the SE brings in more revenue than any other region and possibly the rest of the country put together, perhaps you will realise that investment there is essential to the whole of the UK.
A lot of people outside of the SE seem to have a big chip on their shoulder about 'darn sarf' which is strange when they are forever bleating on about how wonderful it is in 'wotevershire'.

I've been wondering where this "north" people are posting about actually is. All the place names I've seen mentioned are south of here.

Well I know for a fact that is not so for N. Ireland (who have a massive subsidy from the rest of the UK) - and I've a pretty good idea its also not so of some of the poorer areas up north either. As it should be too in my opinion I might add.
