What nonsense! the whole purpose was, is. and always will be to end up with a United States of Europe no matter how often the argument you have raised is aired.
This intention was clear from the very start, and wanting to take advantage of the situation while sabotaging it has been the policy of the British Government all along.
Quitting is quite simply no option at all. the simple fact is that we have missed the boat, sacrificed the chance we had to contribute to the nature of the superstate and reduced ourselves to the status of being homeless on their doorstep.
We have done ourselves great harm and them a big Favour.
The irony is that "Fear of being absorbed by this Superstate" has turned us into it's poor relation desperate for crumbs from it's table rather than a leading force within it.
The only possible explanation is that we have behaved collectively as a Nation as a bunch of Juvenile, arrogant, and foolish Pillocks.
What will be hard in ten years time will be to convince them we are house trained at last and won't wet on the carpet (or worse) if they let us back in.

oldtom, they speak about school lunches, but whenever a snap shot has been taken of Theresa May there is always some type of glass or bottle put to her mouth. I wonder if the media is hinting to the public that she is planning to increase alcohol tax. I'm sure the school kids will uproar over that.

As I said before, the EU is far from perfect and we are between the two continents and two nuclear superpowers which will soon to become three.
Sorry Woosh but it is Cowardice on an epic scale, and an admission of Failure to be able to hold our own, we are let's face it useless when it comes to Governing this country, and finding a place with others, as we allow power to fall into the hands of useless Politicians on the make.
if you want to talk about cowardice in our politics, then it must be the vote that the middle classes in this country lend to the conservatives to keep their taxes as low as possible.
That's the reason for the brexit vote and the current difficult EU negotiation.
I have no idea what the middle class is in 2017 but I do know what working class means - it means paying taxes through PAYE under government regulation. That concept is alien to those with means who can afford to pay fancy accountants generously to avoid paying what they rightfully should.
Legalised cheating and 'creative accounting' by the wealthy, contrived and maintained by the wealthy, is the main reason why the UK has failed to prosper over the last half-century.
'Brexit' has never been about taxes however and keeping taxes low has absolutely nothing to do with the stuttering, if not stalled, EU secession talks. Were it so, then remaining in the EU would be the obvious choice to keep UK taxes low.

1. The prime minister , we call the post Taoiseach, was a well planned transition with the previous leader , Enda having signalled a year ago that he would be retiring. There was no change of government. The same party remains in control, but with support from the major opposition party, that "supply and support " arrangement has another year to run.
2. Leo , the new guy has had at least two meeting in Whitehall with Mrs May, and the other ministers, most who were not reshuffled, continue to meet with their Northern Ireland counterparts and their Westminster counterparts.
3. The position that Ireland has in regard to the border is that we do not want one, preferably by the UK choosing to remain within the customs union, but if they decide not to, it is up to the UK to propose and design an alternative. We are not going to facilitate this act of self harm.

one has to worry about the mental state of the electorate. they also buy lies about immigration, the nhs and almost everything else on a regular basis. from sneering, blatant liars like reese mog. perceived self interest (as with immigration) and all sorts of jingoism no doubt comes into it. im not sure what will change that, I'm watching with interest as brexit goes pear shaped to see if anything changes.
Apart from riots in the streets? nothing much really............
