We have all heard the phrase, often attributed to the 1st Lord Acton in the 19th century, 'Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely'.

This action by a tory MP, reported by 'The Guardian', is shocking and redolent of both Nazism and Communism, not to mention many other states whose people are governed by a dictator or a military junta.

Free of any European regulation within the jurisdiction of the ECJ and with the soon to follow abolition of human rights legislation, this gives some insight into what life would be like under tory rule.

Still think that 'Brexit' is simply about sovereignty or economics? Those who support 'Brexit' want that absolute power. Be warned!

This is a brief passage from a long-winded explanation of the meaning:

Here is 'The Guardian' article:

universities-mccarthyism-mp-demands-list-brexit-chris-heaton-harris

Tom
And a couple of readers comments in the Guardian
"

This man should have no place in any party that claims to believe in democracy.

0 1
He doesn't.
He's a member of the Tory party."

Classic!

The view of a reluctant remainer:

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-10-23/the-harder-brexit-gets-the-more-necessary-it-seems

For many British commentators, in fact, the coming disruption means this was never a matter of weighing long-term pros and cons of EU membership: There was no real choice, in their view, except to remain. But that draws attention to another problem. The irrevocability of EU membership was not previously advertised. Until recently, Article 50 in the European treaties was supposed to affirm that participation in the project was voluntary, contingent and subject to popular consent. Now it's portrayed by Remainers as a kind of suicide clause.

Remember that the European Union is a work in progress. "Ever closer union" remains a guiding principle, and, with the creation of the euro, deeper integration has become a practical necessity as well. It's happening -- haltingly, messily, and leading in the end who knows where. But if quitting the EU now is hard, how much harder will it be in ten years, or 20? And by then, what kind of union will the EU be?

Thus, on the one hand, the costs of Brexit in 2019 will be high; on the other, it might be now or never.
What nonsense! the whole purpose was, is. and always will be to end up with a United States of Europe no matter how often the argument you have raised is aired.

This intention was clear from the very start, and wanting to take advantage of the situation while sabotaging it has been the policy of the British Government all along.

Quitting is quite simply no option at all. the simple fact is that we have missed the boat, sacrificed the chance we had to contribute to the nature of the superstate and reduced ourselves to the status of being homeless on their doorstep.

We have done ourselves great harm and them a big Favour.
The irony is that "Fear of being absorbed by this Superstate" has turned us into it's poor relation desperate for crumbs from it's table rather than a leading force within it.

The only possible explanation is that we have behaved collectively as a Nation as a bunch of Juvenile, arrogant, and foolish Pillocks.

What will be hard in ten years time will be to convince them we are house trained at last and won't wet on the carpet (or worse) if they let us back in.
"Now or Never" you say?
I say
"Never and Not now!"

From the independent
"
Foreign aid to be spent on helping to secure post-Brexit trade deals, Priti Patel says
International Development Secretary hails boost from aid for ‘Global Britain’ – the Brexiteer phrase for new trading opportunities – and says the ‘national interest’ will come first"

May one as is the "National interest" even remotely connected to the future well being of the people who voted for Brexit in the hope of an improved life style?

Where Needy Nations Benefited , from now on .as is the Tory way the money will end where it can never be traced........

"Never in the field of British Political Chicanery has so little been owed by so many to so few"

One of the opportunities of Brexit, oh yes,oh yes indeedy!
Is nothing below this party of disreputable Politicians?

Does no one see the irony in Money being taken back from the EU to be given away to prop up this debacle of Brexit for it never to be seen again as "sweeteners" in the hope of Trade deals?
If we have to buy them what are they worth?

What happened to spending the Money on the NHS? is that spending cancelled because so many Doctors and Nurses have quit, and so few operations being done, the cost of operation and wages bill has gone down?

oldtom, they speak about school lunches, but whenever a snap shot has been taken of Theresa May there is always some type of glass or bottle put to her mouth. I wonder if the media is hinting to the public that she is planning to increase alcohol tax. I'm sure the school kids will uproar over that.

Even Ken Clarke thinks that brexit is unavoidable.
Just pay and keep our fingers crossed.
Woosh, I here you loud and clear, there is no point in keeping our fingers crossed because everything has been done and dusted already, they are all just playing out their individual movie roles for us to watch.

Television/Radio is a powerful tool.

From the Express this morning trying to sell something their Brexit Fans don't want.
"
BREXIT BOOST: Britain WILL use foreign aid budget to secure trade deals after EU exit

The readers are NOT impressed here are some typical comments
"
Scrap foreign aid altogether. This is just a means of postponing it temporarily. We have homeless. We have starving. We have jobless. Look after number one."
..................................
And our own beggars, and our own people being refused some health treatments due to spending cuts, and a police force that has no time to investigate damaging crimes etc. etc. It's a moral crime for a population to deal with all this while politicians freely give our money away.
...........................................
The agenda is untrammelled, unregulated, free-market capitalism on steroids - and everyone who cheers Brexit on is accelerating this process. Please, realise before it's too late - look at the people keenest on Brexit, ask yourself how much you really have in common with them.
............................................
If the trade is so good, why do we need Bribes??
.........................................
It seems resistance to the lie of spending the Money on the NHS isn't going down too well!

Let it be never then!
We should be in there having some control over the process rather than fleeing like a buch of Cowards.

What the heck have we got to gain by leaving a good thing for a far worse one, just to make some of the Elite freer to swindle and abuse the rest of us?
And I might add antagonise former friends and partners into being resoluely opposed to us?
Only a complete lunatic does that, and we are.
We are making the biggest Strategic error in our long and sordid History, we fought for hundreds of years against hegemony in Europe, and at the same time to dominate it.
Now we have scored an own Goal on both counts.
  1. We have ensured Europe will indeed form a Militarily Powerful Superstate
  2. It will dominate us rather than us it.
Stupidity.

it is not coward to leave the EU club.
As I said before, the EU is far from perfect and we are between the two continents and two nuclear superpowers which will soon to become three.

Sorry Woosh but it is Cowardice on an epic scale, and an admission of Failure to be able to hold our own, we are let's face it useless when it comes to Governing this country, and finding a place with others, as we allow power to fall into the hands of useless Politicians on the make.

if you want to talk about cowardice in our politics, then it must be the vote that the middle classes in this country lend to the conservatives to keep their taxes as low as possible.
That's the reason for the brexit vote and the current difficult EU negotiation.

I have no idea what the middle class is in 2017 but I do know what working class means - it means paying taxes through PAYE under government regulation. That concept is alien to those with means who can afford to pay fancy accountants generously to avoid paying what they rightfully should.

Legalised cheating and 'creative accounting' by the wealthy, contrived and maintained by the wealthy, is the main reason why the UK has failed to prosper over the last half-century.

'Brexit' has never been about taxes however and keeping taxes low has absolutely nothing to do with the stuttering, if not stalled, EU secession talks. Were it so, then remaining in the EU would be the obvious choice to keep UK taxes low.

the 'middle classes': polite term for taxpayers.
Southend people are not rich and yet, they vote conservatives times and times again.

Ireland
According to your minister Davis, as reported in the news today , Ireland has had a change of government recently, and there has not been opportunities to meet with the new crew and Ireland is committed to a border free arrangement... That is actually three untruths in a single sentence.

1. The prime minister , we call the post Taoiseach, was a well planned transition with the previous leader , Enda having signalled a year ago that he would be retiring. There was no change of government. The same party remains in control, but with support from the major opposition party, that "supply and support " arrangement has another year to run.
2. Leo , the new guy has had at least two meeting in Whitehall with Mrs May, and the other ministers, most who were not reshuffled, continue to meet with their Northern Ireland counterparts and their Westminster counterparts.
3. The position that Ireland has in regard to the border is that we do not want one, preferably by the UK choosing to remain within the customs union, but if they decide not to, it is up to the UK to propose and design an alternative. We are not going to facilitate this act of self harm.

one has to worry about the mental state of the electorate. they also buy lies about immigration, the nhs and almost everything else on a regular basis. from sneering, blatant liars like reese mog. perceived self interest (as with immigration) and all sorts of jingoism no doubt comes into it. im not sure what will change that, I'm watching with interest as brexit goes pear shaped to see if anything changes.
