Brexit, for once some facts.

I f you want to preserve a record of what was said for historical accuracy , would it not make sense to transcript after the event.?
That would make sense, but sense doesn't often come into it where our historical practices are concerned. The Monarch reads from goatskin parchment as they've always done, just as the Hansard daily record of parliament has always been written on vellum. Bonkers, but this is a bonkers country.

It really is sick to witness the floundering PM respond to her self-inflicted crisis by re-appointing the despicable Michael Gove to the cabinet in order to please Rupert Murdoch. Then to pretend that everything is once again hunky-dory in the PCP, we are treated to a video clip of May's cabinet in session with lots of happy, smiling faces round the table.

How desperate must this woman be to cling to power that she is prepared to risk peace in N Ireland by reaching out to such a motley crew as the DUP while trotting out her latest tagline, 'I got us into this mess and I'll get us out!'.......unless she means out of government.

There is a popular party leader and ready-made PM waiting to lead the UK out of austerity and with whichever deal is best for the country in regard to the EU. A Labour-led minority government by way of a coalition of all the non-tory parties is the way forward at this time.

I have a real difficulty believing that the eternally vacillating May actually thinks that the British people might be in any way content with her current strategy going forward towards 'Brexit' talks.

There was an interesting article on radio four this morning about leadership and the catalogue of leadership errors that May has made. Her main failing seems to be surrounding herself with the clowns that advised her at the home office. This has caused her to become detached from reality and the mood of the country, which in turn led her to believe that she was so popular that she could win a general election based on a few meaningless soundbites and a flimsy manifesto. She is essentially a case study in how not to lead.

The conclusion was that she can not and will not change. The same delusional behaviour which led to the general election is still prevalent and we are seeing this with all the "business as usual" garbage. This further display of contempt for people's intelligence will deepen their dislike for her.

On the same program, there was also talk of evidence that people are disregarding what they are told in tabloid newspapers and forming their own opinion. The shift in Jeremy Corbyn's popularity being evidence of this.

Lets hope so, Tilson. I am still sceptical of real change until I see it affect policy. The appointment of Gove to environment secretary just seems like more of the same. As I said earlier, the test for Corbyn will be to maintain the momentum. For example, the Universities will be finishing soon for the summer which means the support base will become fragmented. It is also likely to now become a war of attrition once the initial euphoria has subsided. Still, I didn't really believe Corbyn would do as well as he has, so who knows?

Yes, I can empathise with all you have reported from that programme 'Tillson' and if I had to sum up in one word my many complaints about the tory party and the current leader, that word would be, 'Arrogance'.

As things stand, democracy, as we are reminded from time to time being the foundation of our political system, has been replaced by oligarchy and that will not change until there is a comprehensive review of the way parliamentary constituencies are bounded. It may also require a fundamental change to the voting system before we actually achieve anything remotely like a democratic process in the election of political representatives.

I never quite understood how proportional representation could work effectively until my late wife attended a course and then went on to study the subject at considerable length. I eventually got the message!

There are many arguments against PR but every one I have encountered is biased in one way or another, leaving me to believe that only when these elected representatives come to understand that their tenure of the 'best club in London' is not secure with a job for life, so long as they don't rock the boat and actually make some pretence of doing some work as a constituency MP, will we achieve a broader consensus.

The current situation illustrates exactly how democracy is not working and in equal part, reveals how external influence from plutocrats is continually brought to bear on any challenge to the oligarchy they pass off under the guise of democracy.

In many parts of the world it's common practice for numbers of terms of office to be limited. This is of course done in the best interests of democracy.

In this so-called cradle of democracy, perhaps we need the same, not just for Prime Ministers but why not for MPs as well? It would get rid of many jobsworths.

Police boss considers letting vigilantes with guns protect Britain from terrorists
Alison Hernandez, the Tory police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall,
The obvious drawbacksto such a plan are legion
  1. This is totally illegal immoral and stupid
  2. how is one to tell an armed Vigilante from a terrorist
  3. Are they really proposing to reintroduce the SS and SD of the Third Reich back onto the streets of this nation? and allow assassination of members of the public on the Streets?
These Tory's are a danger to the nation with ideas like that

It seems that she lied again when she came out with this pompous pronouncement - we could be having an interesting change to a whole new kind of politics now if she had kept her word.

She lost about a dozen seats yet she is still there doing diddly-squat about anything important.....apart from compromising the peace process in Northern Ireland.

Most decent leaders would fall on their sword if they made such a grotesque error of judgement as she has, but no - not Theresa May. She then goes on to compound her idiocy by committing further errors of judgement, while praying for something akin to an Argentinian invasion of the Falklands to present her with a get-out-of-jail-card.....just like her glorious predecessor from the 70s and 80s, whose status among tories she desperately covets

I honestly believe her days are numbered as PM for this one reason alone. Abraham Lincoln once famously stated:

'You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.'

Except Conservative Voters Tom, remember that.

For otherwise why would these dangerous enemies of the Human Race keep getting re-elected,
Despite destroying the industrial base of the country, presiding over economic failure of an epic scale, regardless of innumerable acts of aggression and repression not only in this country but wherever in the world they think a profit is to be made, de-stabilising the middle East with war and murder by drone, and acting as the World's second largest Gun Runners to dodgy Regimes?

it seems that about 40%-45% of the electorate still like the promise of a tax cut or do not want to vote for higher taxes.
That's why I like the Labour manifesto. Restoring CT to previous levels and taking a little more from people who are paid more than 150k a year are the best ways to raise taxes.

I own a bit of land near St-Gaudens where I am thinking of retiring to.
Does it make me half insane?
But you are French! I went out with a lady from near there a couple of times, nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Only a short drive to get your cheap cigarettes and Spanish wine! :)

I must take issue with the following sentence in your message:

"Any UK Brexit strategy is currently in tatters, Everyone in the world knows that, so it would be insane to proceed."

I believe that there is and never was a BREXIT strategy, so it can't be in tatters. There is nothing to shred.

I have always had a very low opinion of May, but in recent weeks that has become contempt and loathing. Her ego is battered, she will be feeling foolish and stubbornness is clearly setting in. She now presents a real danger and if not stopped will do lasting damage in order to try and save face.
... Tilson, the choice of the word "Any" in my post was not a random selection... Enough said!
