No sooner do we get rid of a troll who loved to namedrop his pet economists than another poster turns up doing the same thing!

How weird is that?

Tom
I'm at the top edge of Surrey, the trees on the North Downs boundary seen from my lounge window, but I do little riding these days for various reasons. Mostly walking in that countryside now.

I haven't kept fully up to date with the new e-bike models, too many of them in a constant stream of announcements, though they mostly duplicate others offerings and mostly use a limited range of known motors, like those from Bosch, Yamaha and Bafang.

Or for those who like to live dangerously and don't mind taking risks, there's also the Impulse, Brose and some other motor units.
.
Yes its been a while since I was posting here. Feels like quite a few years. I've not had a proper look around to see who's still here - a few characters I remember but I'll see.

You're not riding much? Me neither - knee went then my hip. Plus in London I had to use the bike because the traffic was so bad - here the traffic is fine so I can drive places and then walk - and the roads here tend to be narrow lanes and not really things to cycle on. But I still intend to get out and do some cycling.

Is Martin around? I remember all the arguments about the dongle's allowing unlimited speeds - no doubt that is rumbling along somewhere - though I have enough on my plate with Tom thinking I am the next incarnation of some horrific Xenophobic Troll he has nightmares about.... but I will be good and try not to wind him up too much - though he does seem rather easy to provoke.

Anyhow. You were very into the whole legal side of things - I take it thats still the case - so Brexit will impact all that for sure. Its a brave new world.

You're scraping the bottom of the barrel now 'tillson'. You really haven't grasped the bigger picture with the EU, have you? No matter how vehemently you might wish to protest, the sad fact is that the UK is no longer equipped to compete single-handedly in the global marketplace.

We no longer rule the waves and our days of empire are over. All the jingoism in the world cannot alter the fact that the world has changed and we are stuck in the mid-20th century with a bad attitude towards other races and creeds. The arrogance and conceit we display, even from the PM, has not gone unnoticed by at least 27 other sovereign nation states and probably many more countries too.

All 'leavers' are really out on a limb now, hoping and praying for some kind of miracle which might help avoid the cumuppance likely to befall us in the brave, new post-'Brexit' Shangi-La predicted.

old tom suffers from a condition known as Hair Trigger Racist Alert. If caught early this can be treated and many ex-sufferers are able to integrate back into society. They nearly always go on to lead a perfectly normal and healthy life.

Sadly and for a number of varied reasons, a few cases of Hair Trigger Racist Alert aren't caught in time. The victim then becomes consumed by the condition and there is very little which can be done. In the latter and chronic stages of the illness, the victim will perceive ordinary day to day goings on as racist activity. Everything will become a state orchestrated plot with racism at its heart. There have been a few reported cases of the victim imagining "Space Nazis" using high powered ray emitting space guns to disrupt and alter people's thought process, from outer space!

All that can be done is to offer comfort and reassurance for those suffering from advanced Hair Trigger Racist Alert. Reading material such as The Canary has been created by a group of volunteers. Within its pages you can find fictional stories and news reports which have been written specifically to resonate with the victims of this cruel disease. This gives the victim a sense that they are tuned into the world as they see it and they take immense comfort from this. But the harsh reality being that they are very much out of kilter with normality.

I feel partly responsible for not getting help to old tom sooner. If you look back through his posts with the benefit of hindsight, all of the Hair Trigger Racist Alert warning signs are there. Who knows what might have happened if an early intervention had been possible?

Till son and Oxygen James.....ignoring what is the outcome of Brexit for a moment,we all have our own opinions as to the ultimate success of this experiment.
But does it bother you that prices are currently rising rapidly, making everything less affordable ???

I've not noticed this. If I think something doesn't represent value for money, I either don't buy it or I make an offer of what I perceive the true value to be. If the offer isn't accepted, the goods stay on the shelf.

But to answer your question again, I have not noticed any significant price rises.

there is no need for pious hope.
You can base your argument on economics.
Demand, supply, unit of labour cost, production capacity, inward investment.
After we have a deal with the EU, we'll grow at faster pace out than in.
What production capacity when there is no guarantee the companies won't have left the country?

Well. If you're getting your 'news' from the Independent - there's not much hope for you. My Mum gets that rag - today - for example - I read on the front page 'Majors devastating attack on the government'. What? 'Devastating'? huh? Come again? Major and Blair - what a joke. You want to align yourself with those two? Good luck with that.

You want me to point you in the right direction? Try Tim Worstall. On twitter. And what he writes in his stuff at Forbes - but you can start with him on Twitter. Or the Adam Smith Institute. Follow them on Twitter. They're both way more clued up on the economics. And they are VERY for us leaving. Free trade and all that. Innovation.

Remember what Thatcher said 'Socialism is fine until you run out of other people's money'.
Thatcher said? Cheerio as you would say, humour only goes so far, the woman was a menace

The reason why so many of the 16m who lost keep moaning and complaining is that they're still riding their bikes with the stabilizers on. They have not yet had that moment when somebody said hey kid try it without the stabilizers. No! shouts the kid. I'll fall off! I need a plan! I need to know HOW it will work. And no amount of telling them to just go for it everything will be just fine - will make much of a difference. But. Remember this. Generally speaking its people from within the 17.4m who will be running things from now. Well at least until the others catch up. If they ever do.
They will be running all right , but they will have to be quick as the Ring leaders of the leave campaign have built up on heck of a lead, haven't they?
Ad they too will be trying to deny any responsibility:cool:

Oh ye of little faith. Flec come on. Cheer up. Trump is putting a crowbar to the EPA for goodness sake! How much good news can we take in 6 months? Clinton is not going to be in power - WHAT A RELIEF! Anybody but her. Sheesh. And we will no longer have to listen to some EU court telling us how to run our own country. AND we can decide who to let in through our borders! Whats not to like? Oh OK. You disagree. OK. go for it.
Trump is quite obviously a loose cannon, now spending billions on armaments to frighten miniscule enemies, while cutting services and damaging the enironment.
This sums up his support
"“I read in the newspapers they are going to have 30 minutes of intellectual stuff on television every Monday from 7:30 to 8. to educate America. They couldn't educate America if they started at 6:30.”

Presumably all of this has nothing to do with our EU membership then? Ford scaled down Dagenham ceasing vehicle production in 2002, whilst we were members of the EU.

Lower wage Eastern Europe will still exist tempting companies to re-locate there regardless of whether we remain in the EU? Just like much of Cadbury's Chocolate is now made in Poland and not the West Midlands. This all happened whilst we have been EU members. How can large companies moving out of the UK be blamed on BREXIT? They have been doing it for years.
Good point but this time if they go even, you can hardly claim there is no connection when they were doing very nicely up to this point and intent on staying can you?

I understand that. But if we were to remain in the EU, it gives us no guarantee that manufacturing jobs will stay in the UK. We have seen them move to cheaper labour cost areas within the EU whilst being members.

To say that BREXIT will result in job loses may be true, but evidence shows that job losses also occur whilst being a member of the EU. Membership means nothing in this regard.
Except of course that we are better able to afford these job losses while we are in?

There is no guarantee either way, in or out. You could as well say good jobs move to Eastern Europe and we get low skilled EU immigrants in return.
We have to be more competitive, that means good education and training.

It gets even wierder from the Daily Excess
"
Britain to defend borders with UNMANNED WARFARE in bid to SURGE ahead of enemies
BRITAIN will be defending itself with the world's best in “unmanned warfare” as part of a multi million pound drone project according to Michael Fallon, the Defence Secretary.
An elite team involving astronaut Tim Peake, former head of McLaren F1 racing Ron Dennis and former GCHQ chief Robert Hannigan, has been assembled to the new Defence Innovation Advisory Panel.

Fallon said: “Unmanned warfare should be the future of defence if Britain is to stay ahead of its enemies.”

Space warfare, underwater creatures and dragonfly drones are being developed thanks to a £400million annual budget from the MoD’s research and technology programme.

Fallon, speaking at Oxford University’s Department of Engineering Science, said: "We have seen that our adversaries are capable of moving ahead with technology, particularly with the use of drones and aircraft in Daesh's defence of cities such as Mosul.

A two-year £8million drone research project was also unveiled, with Fallon announcing they had visited the Animal Dynamics facility to see a Skeeter micro-drone with tiny wings inspired by a dragonfly.

Dennis, founder of McLaren Technology Group, said: "There can be nothing more important than our national security.

Rest easy in your beds, our 7,500 odd miles of coast are being patrolled by Dragonfly sized drones with a battery life of about an hour.
Cheap too at £400 million to develop.
We would do better to equip everyone living near the coast with a Longbow, quiver of hours and send them a training DVD.

ROFLMAO as the young might observe:rolleyes:

This from an American friend:

An Israeli doctor says: "In Israel, medicine is so advanced that we cut off a man's liver put them on another man, and in 6 weeks, he is looking for work."

The German doctor says: "That's nothing,

in Germany we take part of a brain, put it in another man, and in 4 weeks he is looking for work."

The Russian doctor says: "Gentlemen, we take half a heart from a man, put it in another's chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking for work."

The American doctor laughs: "You all are behind us. One week ago, we took a man with no brains, no heart, and no liver and made him President.

Now, the whole country is looking for work!"

From the Independent
"
Donald Trump has completed his first ever speech to Congress as President. And almost every major claim made in it appeared to be false.

He appeared to wrongly claim that he was responsible for a vast reduction in the price of the F-35 jet, as well as falsely characterising a report into the problems of immigration.

The President's speech made contested claims about the value of immigration, his success in office, his plans for tax reform, and healthcare coverage."

Just a liar, but dangerous

Ha. Very funny. Shall we have a group hug for Tom? Cheer up Tom. Oxygen levels are good and gravity is operating well and you obviously have access to a computer so you're not completely broke. We'll all be dead in 100 years so let's not waste too much time huh?
