The winds on Dogger Bank are expected to peak around 5pm at 85mph.
I wonder how the wind farm will cope!
With Zlatan slicing them up with his windsurf board fin, as he soars among them?

Our peak hour is just starting - at 71 mph.

Have been rather surprised that the big building site nearby is still working.
When I lived in a high rise many years ago, the water in the toilet bowls would gradually empty as the entire building swayed and flexed in high winds. The night of the earthquake was scary - one man braved the lifts to escape immediately, as the building violently rocked. Ironically, John Bonham of Led Zeppelin used to live there too, but it rocked and rolled back then. It's since been demolished, but lives on immortalised as millions of album covers real and virtual.

i found something sensible in the Reader’s Comments section of the Mail On-Line, for once. (The Mail is free and I don’t like paying for stuff).

Something we should always remember... It's the politicians that start wars. Not the people... It's the politicians that are never sent to war. It's always the people... It's the politicians that never fight and die in wars. It's always the people... It's not the politicians who come home in body bags. It's always the people... Doesn't seem fair, does it?.. Harry Patch. 1898 - 2009, the longest surviving 'Tommy' of WW1 wrote: "I felt then, as I feel now, that the politicians who took us to war should have been given the guns and told to settle their differences themselves instead of organising nothing better than legalised mass murder"... Any British politician who votes in favour of sending British combat troops to face Russia should be put in a uniform and made to lead the charge...

Liz Truss playing with that tank she was recently photographed would get my vote. Paint a target between her eyes first and send that to The Ukraine.

And why didn’t someone arm the ejection seat of that Typhoon Johnson was sat in yesterday?
Not just politicians, Royalty too. It was Europe's royal families who caused World War One when they got the hump with each other and expected the politicians to settle their differences using the people as cannon fodder.

But the above said, and it's very often been said, in truth it really is the ordinary people entirely to blame.

All they have to do to stop war is all of them refuse to fight. They can't shoot or imprison us all.

We have the power. We got rid of the Poll Tax. We prevented Identity Cards. We prevented compulsory Covid Vaccination. The NHS workers have prevented implementation of their compulsory Covid Vaccination so far with fully 5% not vaccinated.

All we need is the willpower and we can make many of the decisions.

Ironically our wind farms will be extensively shut down today, so we'll be burning lots of gas. That's the big problem with wind power generation, it can only work in a narrow band of wind speeds, one which will increasingly reduce in incidence as climate change gets a more damaging grip upon us.

it's not the will power, it's the mortgage, the kids' school and circle of friends.

No, that's the lack of willpower, theirs and their friend's.

The will power to accept the hardship imposed for the ultimate gain.

I can’t see that working during the period of WW1 or 2. I think politicians were held in high regard due to much tighter control of news outlets. Today, it might be a different story. The internet has revolutionised access to information and we have learned that the establishment is constructed from scum dressed in £1000 suits & dresses. They command no respect or trust. I don’t think any form of conscription would work. It would result in mass civil disobedience.

It would be much better to send Liz Truss to war in that tank.

I'd better check my insurance policy smallprint - my roof could blow away...

Sadly, the mass is too stupid to be disobedient.

Of course, but I wasn't speaking of the past on which we have no influence.

I was speaking of now and the future which we can change, and as you say, things are very different now. It's why we've had lots of little wars using existing armed forces, we can no longer force whole western populations into mass warfare and the politicians know it. It's why we only threaten Russia with economic sanctions if they invade Ukraine, because we can't muster enough western people to fight a full blown war over that land.

The politicians are learning at long last. They saw what happened to French nobility at the revolution, to the Czarist Romanovs in 1917, to Mussolini, to Nicolae and Elena Ceaușescu in Romania, and it's finally sunk in enough to leave them frightened now when the people get really angry.

But that is still the lack of will to take the family with you.

You'd still have rather have gone to war, got killed and left your family without father and husband over some other country like Ukraine that's nothing to do with you?

Remember, we declared war with Germany on 3rd September 1939 because they invaded Poland over a land dispute between the two of them. Look at the chaos that resulted from that stupid decision.

After the Beast from the East and the Pest from the West, it does look like this one is coming from the front.
Yup!

Just need a volcano from above and an earthquake from below to complete the directional battering.
