It seems from a conversation with our Home help that the older you are, the less you suffer from side effects.
Most of her compatriots have found this to be the case.
The irony when you get past a certain age is there are days when you're not entirely sure you didn't die the day before, so perhaps the side effects were simply lost against the background aches and pains.
Hope you soon feel better you youthful stripling:D
As to a reduction in running performance...I dimly remember running at school and hearing this statement in reply to the question posed to Alfred Hitchcock the Movie Director

"Do you run Mr Hitchcock?"
He gave the questioner that baleful bloodhound look he was famous for and responded

"If I was meant to run I would have been born with wheels!"

This was a moment of revelation, so I went out and bought my first motor bike :D

And I'm still on two wheels, the latest being a Honda SH300i Scooter

Apologies for there being two images, I don't know how that happened
My first scooter 60 years ago was a Vespa 125cc 4.5 HP and 45 mph 60mpg
This beast is 295cc 25bhp speed with screen 85mph 90 plus without, ABS and Traction control, normal fuel consumption 95 plus mpg.

As I grow older this marks the high point, as it is a heavy beast and sooner or later I will have to downsize to the smallest "Vision 110cc" until that goes and the E bike becomes oldgroaners last stand. Till then I love riding it.

I wonder how many of those worrying about the possibility of AV causing clots will happily jump onto an aircraft as soon as they can!

The risk of developing a clot on a flight was found to be 1 in 5944 flights. Deaths 1 per 2 million for passengers arriving from a flight. (And many have to do two, or even three, hops to get to their destinations.)

Making a nonsense of proper statistical techniques but throwing figures together:

With 24,453,221 vaccinations (for simplicity, assuming all AV) at the same 1/5944, we should have expect around 4113 clots/DVTs. With about 12 deaths.

Interesting pics.

The side effects/age are the other way round here! I had almost none. Partner, who is slightly older, whilst only getting those which are in the list, felt pretty poorly for a few days.

Reply for Oyster's previous post.
I, ve just read similar argument in Guardian.
Basically even if the current problem cases were attributed to the vaccine it produces a clot risk of 0.007 per thousand. The Pill is accepted as a perfectly viable worthwhile risk and has a clot risk of 0.6 per thousand... Probably acceptable because women take it and not us blokes???

Not too far away it's actually on a country road from Wharram le Street, a hilltop view North down the valley onto the once upon a time Grimston Railway station and the B1248 to Malton.
Wonderful empty roads to cruise down with great views and no traffic, this was last September.

There are 3 vaccines in the mix...
1. Pfizers
2. AZ made in UK of which 11 M jabs given
3. AZ made in EU of which 5 or 6 M jabs given.

Even if there is a causal relationship it might be confined to AZ made in EU, and the UK one might be fine. This would explain a difference in opinion between EMA and UK medics.

I think you made that point quite clearly. I accept the basic truth (though some other vaccines have been used in some European countries). I just took the UK as, if people here are being "hesitant", it was easy to throw figures together and make my point.

Indeed, and made worse by tight fisted companies re-using American TV ads dubbed with English voices. The Gaviscon ads are the most blatant for this, even showing a cartoon American fireman alongside the two very obviously American men in the ad but with English voice over.
.
You think that's bad?. The McDonald s adds on UTV have Belfast accents, and on RTE , best Dublin... I they had to use a Northern one, they could have used the singsong Derry one.

I really think these countries suspending roll out are making a massive mistake. Seems there has been a concerted effort to destroy confidence in AZ and going on response of many Dutch on TV tonight it has worked well... But to what end? Putting their faith in the Russian vaccine?? I really do think this is a political decision. There is something going on we don't know about.

It may sound like a conspiracy theory but I wouldn't put it past Putin not to be party to a disinformation campaign

Well its looking as though they are trying to get more of the Russian vaccine... I, d thought there were some rumours that that was hacked from Oxford anyway, but who knows what's going on.
This pandemic has shown the frailty in so many aspects of our Governments. All of them.

With reference to the bill being debated right now I tweeted this
oldgroaner@oldgroaner

"Congratulations to Steve Bray, the first British Citizen to terrify the ruling Leave faction enough to have a law passed against him personally. When his time comes, have a statue made to the man with that engraved on the base

And how we really need to get rid of this disunity between nations, we could find if we don't and this sort of farce over vaccines repeats itself against a deadlier virus it ends up as an extinction event.

It’s looking likely that 4 million vaccinations will be carried out in the U.K. this week. That number is set to surge higher in the coming weeks when the vaccine manufactured in India lands here.
