You should have followed your instinct.

Actually, I agree with most of your post.

It’s comical that you can’t bring yourself to acknowledge that the U.K. based scientists and English university have developed a vaccine. Because of its ease of handling, it’s likely to become the dominant one too. If you behave yourself and ask nicely, we might let you have some.
Oh dear, are you referring by chance to the vaccine developed in Oxford under Irish directorship?.The Jenner Laboratory is indeed world class. And attracts world class talent. And yes I should have followed my instincts , so I will now.

I suspect these people had read the box as well.
Those in power have awful decisions to make. It's a risk either way. That's reality. Moaning at Boris and making these arguments political is ridiculous. We are all fighting the virus, we shouldn't be fighting each other.
I, m fairly sure JVT knows a hundred times more about our predicament than this entire forum combined. He has endorsed decision to extend time. But for some odd reason some folk on here know more than he does???
We aren't fighting Boris, we have no means to do so, and in your simple mind do you think we are unable to look at evidence, read reports and draw logical conclusions?
I don't need to pay Homage to someone's qualifications before reaching the same conclusion as manufacturers who invested £4.5 billion pounds.
They are more credible to me than a man (no matter how qualified) who owes what influence he can wield for good, in a balancing act that could end in him being overruled and discarded if he steps out of line with Government policy.
Time you learned to think for yourself
"Put not your faith in Princes" Or Government controlled experts
when they differ from the designers.

There was a report on the Welsh news on this last night, and they interviewed a manager from Gwynedd shipping. Many of the Lorries that went through Holyhead prior to Brexit are current going to and from Ireland directly from France and more ferries have been put on to accomodate them.

It is usually a much longer and more expensive journey to sail from Ireland to France rather than cross over to Holyhead and drive through the UK but at the moment with the problems with paperwork and the consequent delays this has caused. Many freight companies are choosing to take this route, the chap from Gwynedd shipping thought that as people get used to the paperwork then this might change, and things might go back to how they were before.
The direct route to France is longer but not by much. The key new one is Rosslare to Dunkirk, which takes virtually 24 hours. It is a question of swings and roundabouts. What it actually delivers is that the lorry driver gets his full day traveling into Germany and maybe Poland, before his tachameter tells him to stop and of course less wear on the vehicle. Now if the journey is Spain, the Cherbourg route is best, but Paris is still better served via Dover. The irony is that the Cherbourg ferries usually cruise outside the port for a few hours and the time could be shorter if the working day at the port was extended.

@flecc You keep saying that London benefitted from a hard early Coronavirus hit.

I’ve just read this on the BBC news App

“The spread of Covid in London is "out of control" according to Sadiq Khan, who has declared a "major incident”

Are you sure everything is ok over there?

the jury is still out on this one.
The Pfizer vaccine is made by enrobing the mRNA fragment inside a lipid shell. It's high tech and pure, ie it will be more or less 100% absorbed by our cells at the site of injection.
Our Oxford vaccine takes the lower tech route, we use an adenovirus to replace the lipid shell. The virus invades the cells, the latter may resist or may not, our immune system may kill the virus or may not, the virus may bring in unknown variables.
The French are much more cautious with the new vaccines than we are.

As I'd previously posted at the time the benefit was in the middle of the year following the disaster of March and April when we had well over double the national infection rate. That soon fell well under the national rate with even country areas overtaking us. But recently I posted about the inward march from highly infected areas in Kent and Essex, warning it would soon get very bad again here.

And that has begun with a vegeance and will get worse before it gets better, so Sadiq is right.

That said the position is, as ever, very uneven. I have a wide network of local people I have degrees of contact with as my very busy email inbox shows each day, including the hundreds of members of our countryside support organisation, by extension other local organisations we're connected to, plus two very large resident associations and all the Council people we deal with. Despite this I've yet to learn of a single person who has even caught Covid-19 or any deaths in this extended local area of London's largest borough and the adjacent North Surrey that I extensively have access to.

My borough of Croydon is very much one of two physical halves, the crowded and deprived built up North, separated from the more spacious and mostly privileged leafy South where I live. I suspect that like early in the year, the hit is mainly being taken by the North of the borough.

Pleased to hear it’s not too bad in your locality.

Stay safe and keep out of trouble.

As I said, the 12 week wait might be a positive.. Folk less inclined to mix if they are unsure of level of protection.
Why can't folk just follow instructions..
They, ve said all along vaccine isn't a silver bullet. Interviewed a couple yesterday, they were already making plans to visit kids and grandkids in 3 weeks time.
The idea is to keep folk out of hospital at moment not so they can sod off on holiday.. (Ryan Air advert.. Jab and go.. People are just stupid)
This is sort of BS doing rounds at moment.

This place has done well with regards not circulating utter BS, this is type of thing I, ve had to remove from forum I mod on, it's a daily occurrence.. This one is one of better ones.
Author forgets to say his immune system is 99.9 % effective when given chance with a decent vaccine.(you, ve probably guessed this lad won't be having vaccine)
Have a look at

(I fact checked it. Its BS)

Then we wonder why folk ignore instructions...

From memory (this might have now changes I have not checked) but I don't think anyone given either one or two doses of either the Pfizer or Oxford vaccine have ended up in hospital due to the effects of Covid

The nurse said she was told it would take 10 days for the vaccine to offer some protection and reduce the risk of transmission.

However, three weeks after the jab, she said she began to feel unwell - with "quite severe symptoms" of a bad cough, high temperature and breathlessness - and said she was "shocked" when she tested positive for coronavirus.

Not quite the same but shows there's still a vulnerabily to get infected and spread it (to unvaccinated folk) for a period after vaccination.

I remarked on that Ryanair advert to my wife. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing “Jab & Go”. That advert should be taken down, it’s dangerous and gives the impression that once vaccinated life returns to normal, which is not the case.

You are correct, people are generally idiots and British people take idiocy to a new level. I don’t let it bother me, I just keep out of their way. The virus will visit them and their families and do its business.

No I don't I would have thought the sea route would be less polluting than the driving one but I could be wrong. There was someone talking on Bloomberg TV a couple of hours ago about transportation between Ireland and the continent.

He was some kind of European logistics expert and he said there was not the capacity (I assume meaning ferries and ports) to greatly expand direct travel for lorries between Ireland and the continent and that it would take a long time to before that was likely to happen.

He said the stock pilling that had taken place in the UK prior to Brexit had helped to keep down any major delays at places like Dover but he wasn't sure what might happen once trade got back up to full swing.

They have decided to vaccinate NHS staff immediately.

So much for led by the well-researched JCVI plan.

(Not saying they are wrong. Seemed pretty obvious to me that if all the medics are ill, it becomes rather less significant who else has been vaccinated - anyone else who is ill will suffer.)

My question: Does it protect them from the clap?

I was shocked to see that 1325 have died from Coronavirus over the last 24 hours.

I know we aren’t supposed to look at how other countries are doing (except for vaccinations and other things when we are temporarily doing better), but how are we comparing? What’s happening in France, Italy & Germany for example?

Can you remember those death comparison charts they used to proudly display at Downing Street briefings? They suddenly disappeared when we overtook every country in Europe and we were told not to look at the pile of dead bodies.

People aren’t turning up for vaccination appointments, so they are shoving it into coppers arms rather than waste it.
