Brexit, for once some facts.

Brexit is fundamentally the future being stillborn and about as monumentally insane as can possibly be imagined apart from picking a war with Russia or China.
In a battle between the Warmington-on-Sea home guard and the Red Army we could encounter some small difficulty

Come to think of it that analogy also fits only too well with our new relationship with the EU
And it's no good looking to Labour or whatever it now calls itself, there's no salvation to be found there
I, m happy with Boris and Co over Brexit.. Jury out for handling Covid.
And BTW Brino was remaining in Customs Union. We, ve left. Its only Brino by your own definition of Brino.. Not Mogg's who coined it..

Sorry but it is BRINO and NI is still in there

Penfold isn't happy but doesn't know what to do with his win
So he is asking for advice and another Tory isn't impressed

I'm a bit confused. As I understand it (maybe misunderstand it?) the idea of a half size second first (corrected, thanks Oyster) dose of Oxford vaccine was rejected because there was insufficient trail data to confirm it as a good idea; even though such trial data as there was suggested it was beneficial. But now the plan is to go for a 12 week gap (for both approved vaccines), even though there appears to be no supporting trail data. Have I misread something, or that really the case?

Zlatan's suggestion above sort of explains things, but it still seems odd that no evidence is considered stronger than some evidence.

Wasn't it a half-size first dose?

Doesn't undermine anything else you posted!

Well Zlatan thinks " no evidence is considered stronger than some evidence. when he refers to Brexit being a good idea, so it must be eh?"

And after when that wise deep thinking leave Sage Mr Gove definitely states "We have had enough of experts" it must be true and in Brexitland that's one of the Ten Commandments
It's no 3 after
1: Thou shall not Scrutinise government decisions by referring to small print
2: Thou shalt not jeopardise World beating systems for the sake of saving a few less productive lives
3: Thou shalt only quote experts that say the things you want them to
4: There was one about adultery around here somewhere....

I’ve deliberately stayed out of this thread. I find it all far too depressing. We at Wisper now are pretty certain that we will have to pay 6% extra duty* bringing our bikes in from Portugal, I say extra as we are already paying 6% duty to Europe as the Asian parts come into Portugal, so we now paying duty on duty. We also know the extra costs for dealing with all this extra red tape. It looks like our prices will therefore have to increase by 7.5%by the end of next week.

*This is based on information received from BAGB.

We all know the disadvantages of BREXIT, they are plain and obvious. Is anyone aware of any benefits at all? I ask this as I genuinely don’t see any benefits.

All the best, David

Arguably removal of VAT on tampons.

Though there is quite a strong argument the EU would itself have done this (because the UK set the process to achieve it in motion). But UK decided it would be better NOT to get this across the EU, but positively to wait for brexit/end of transition so they could announce it as an achievement of brexit.

Think we now need a further campaign to remove VAT on paracetamol when supplied to help with period pain. And hot water bottles. Just think, the newly sovereign UK will be able to make those changes in nanoseconds.

(Just what is the queen supposed to make of all this not being sovereign business?)

I guess that tariffs have no mechanism (or desire) in place to refund on export - unlike VAT.

No VAT on Tampons? I didn’t realise. I feel stupid for even asking now!!

Looking on ebay today (for non-essential socks; shops shut) I noticed a huge number of items (particularly the cheaper ones, probably the ones from the middle east?) are now marked '+ 20% VAT will apply'

I'm not sure how it is applied and whether it is actually any different than it would have been yesterday, or whether ebay have just been requested to put that on all adverts from abroad, or ...??? It doesn't seem to have the equivalent on ebike batteries (eg from China), except one shipped from UK. They don't seem to mention VAT in the listings themselves, only in the search summary.

Does anyone here know the rules? (Does anyone anywhere know the rules?)

Starting 1 January 2021, eBay is required to collect VAT on certain orders delivered to UK addresses:

  • Orders up to £135 sent from outside the UK
  • Orders where the item is located in the UK, but the seller is not a UK seller
Go to ebay help and search for VAT

Of course not, we will have to go on the EU website and ask some adult to explain rather than get Professor Stanley Unwin at the UK Brexit department , or worse an explanation from Hunt or Gove

sorry Flecc not offensive, can’t change it.
Well there's an opening in Norway if we can sell it as Rakfish
(Rakfisk is a Norwegian fish dish made from trout or char, salted and autolyzed for two to three months, or even up to a year. Rakfisk is then eaten without cooking . )

or perhaps in Sweden Surstromming ( rotting Herring)
