Good post...
I, ve been staggered at the outright stupidity of many I previously thought of sound mind. It's been, and in many ways still is, a test of the country's IQ.
Our in laws actually thought the previous Christmas bubble thing was 3 different famalies per day.. They had plans to see loads more this year than any year in past. Then after the change, just had 10 folk for dinner. "We, ll open a window"..
And Hull OG... I had misfortune to have to visit town centre about 4 weeks ago. Never saw a single mask or any thing like approaching social distancing. You,d have struggled knowing anything was wrong.
Yep, agreed Government's have made mistakes. They should have come down far harder on folk transgressing rules.. But somebody will have to explain to me why Boris is to blame. He, s actually been working hard to stop the ones saying lift restrictions having more sway.
Listened to Ian Duncan Smith a few weeks ago. Think he must be living on a different planet to rest of us.
And Tony Blair... When did he do his virology degree. Fecking lunatic.
The rules are unenforceable, there is simply too many rule breakers and not enough enforcers. For that reason, if we are to have rules, they need to be clear and simple. The tier system and layers of exemptions confuse the public and they just give up. T1 and T2 result in T3 being imposed, so there is no point to having them. T3 just about holds the situation at bay and I don’t know what T4 achieved.

There should just be 1 set of special measures which is basically shut everything down and stay at home and don’t mix with anyone unless it’s essential. That could be applied as necessary and where necessary. As a background measure, pubs, gyms and other indoor social venues should remain closed everywhere until mid spring.

I agree with Barry 100% this country just does not have the resilience to hang on, knuckle down and stick it out.
Where's the old wartime spirit gone, this is still a war but this time against a virus. We'll win in the end but that will come sooner if people were to behave and the Gov make correct decisions on moving forward instead of telling us the vaccine is here now so all is well.

This sort of thing?

During the years of the Second World War, there was a marked increase in crime. This was due to a combination of different factors. Some were opportunistic crimes, in which not only criminals but also members of the public took advantage of the chaos during air raids and blackouts.

There also was an increase in gang activity linked to the black market. And there were new crimes which were the results of war restrictions such as rationing and the criminalization of previously legal activities.

To me, it looks like there are plenty out there exploiting the situation to their own advantage. All too often, various forms of crony.

Why is Boris to blame? hells teeth you really don't understand do you the mistakes he made at the start and his stupid superhero attitude "We can turn this to advantage" set the tone thousands of unnecessary deaths after the wrong decision to lock down late and you can't see how Boris is to blame?

Not much has changed then. Matt Handcock awarding a multimillion pound PPE contract to a pub landline mate with absolute no expertise in the provision of PPE, for example. These people deserve jail time, banged up with a 22 stone predatory homosexual.

I wonder how the ERG view clauses like these (page 383)
"1. The Union shall have the right to conduct as provided in relevant funding agreements or contracts and in accordance with the applicable acts of one or more Union institutions, technical, scientific, financial, or other types of reviews and audits on the premises of any natural person residing in or legal entity established in the United Kingdom and receiving Union funding, as well as any third party involved in the implementation of Union funding residing or established in the United Kingdom. Such reviews and audits may be carried out by the agents of the institutions and bodies of the Union, in particular of the European Commission and the European Court of Auditors, or by other persons mandated by the European Commission in accordance with Union law. 2. The agents of the institutions and bodies of the Union, in particular the agents of the European Commission and the European Court of Auditors, as well as other persons mandated by the European Commission, shall have appropriate access to sites, works and documents (in electronic or paper versions, or both) and to all the information required in order to carry out such reviews and audits, as referred to in paragraph 1. Such access shall include the right to obtain physical or electronic copies of, and extracts from, any document or the contents of any data medium held by audited natural or legal persons, or by the audited third party. 3. The United Kingdom shall not prevent or raise any obstacle to the right of the agents and other persons referred to in paragraph 2 to enter the United Kingdom and to access the premises of the audited persons, in the exercise of their duties referred to in this Article."

I agree but offer the observation that some may find the Jail time a rather attractive proposition

Sorry to be crude, but perhaps not if they emerge from jail with an ass-hole resembling a clown’s jacket pocket. That’s what these racketeering gits deserve.

Really so what?. Basically unless a UK organisation or person accepts money for an EU contract, they don't get audited . If at some time in the future the UK decided to join ERASMUS , then the ECJ can audit the accounts of that entity.

Here is something to think about
From the new European
"
Officials have been accused of copying and pasting chunks of text into the Brexit deal agreement.
Experts have spotted buried within page 921 of the UK-EU trade document references to dated computer software in the agreement which are decades old.

Referencing encryption technology, it mentions Netscape Communicator as a "modern e-mail software package" - last updated in 2002.
it also recommends the use of SHA-1 as a "hash algorithm" despite the fact it was depreciated in 2011.

The references have led experts to believe key texts have been copied and pasted from old documentation due to the lack of time to secure a deal."

I'm looking to see if anything from the "Magna Carta" has been sneaked in too!
I have read the offending section and other sections . on one level it is still OK ,in that it it is using these as a examples and does link to other software. But on every other level it is utterly absurd. Putting entire lists of crimes in numerical format or data structure formats in a treaty is naff beyond belief .. It looks as if someone got to the sherry early. . a single sentence covers this ... "Data will be structured in mutually agreed format."

"We, ll open a window"..
you could say the same about BJ.
Back in March, Prof Neil Ferguson's team at UCL presented the model of Covid spreading and pointed out the consequences for the NHS. His graphs are well known.
BJ delayed the lockdown about 10 days, killing probably thousands. Then when the new variant got identified in October, he was warned again, cancel Christmas or see the NHS going into overload.
Guess what: today, new cases and new Covid hospital admissions hit new records. All electives are cancelled.
We are heading for the worst crisis handling in Europe.
