so how did they get your phone number? did he call or just not bother even tho you had to fill in a form with all of your details on to register as to use you as a profit unit.
In those days you could find a phone number by looking in a book called a phone directory..

Many people didn't have home phone's back in those day's sw, if you did get one you had to keep quiet about it or half the street would be knocking on you door asking to use it.
Funnily enough we had a TV before we owned a phone, neighbours used to ask if they could come in and watch it as no one else in the street had one. If they were lucky we would even switch it on :)

Have been looking at them and trying to understand quite what the inside ear microphone does? Most such devices don't seem to have one.

If you suffer from objective tinnitus, would it noise cancel it?
‘I don’t know about tinnitus. I’ve only just received the AirPods so haven’t studied them in detail. The ANR is very good, it cancels out 90% of the ambient noise and the sound quality / range probably exceeds what my ears are capable of hearing. Pass through mode is interesting, I can hear conversations and ambient noise whilst listening to music / radio streaming off my Apple Watch. I do a lot of walking with my dog, so they are great for when I’m out with him.

The inside ear microphone is probably used to make sure the AirPod is sealed into your ear properly and that no ambient noise is “leaking“ in. There is a fit diagnostic App which tests the seal and this must use the inner microphone. I have just remember, a microphone is used for the ANR too. About 30 years ago I used an Alpha flying helmet set up for ANR to deaden two screaming RB199s. That had microphones in the ear cups. Worked well too, just a gentle whine whilst all hell was breaking loose outside.

The ventilator saga.

The last part was spot on.

“When we look back there will be serious questions to answer about all of the decisions made. What’s been very noticeable is that we always seem to be one step behind on the policy.

“If it’s not ventilators it’s tests, if it’s not tests, it’s PPE. It’s an important lesson that we have to invest, to create overcapacity for these moments.”

“We’ve really cut to the bone in this country far too much.”

I'm not going to spend a hundred quid plus on a phone and ongoing charges as well on something I can't use. Like many others I'm taking a stand against the blackmail that dictates what we buy, such as parking meter charges that can only be paid by phone and the smart meter swindle that is costing all of us at least £80 for something that doesn't work for huge numbers.

It would help if our pathetic governments ensured 100% 2G coverage to make smartphones and smart meters actually useful for everyone, rather than racing ahead with 4G and 5G for the fortunate.
.
Flecc, in this topic you are out of date. The point of 5g etc is that the cells can accommodate more addresses ,and more data. I find it hard to have to agree with Sp ,but on this occasion he is with the majority.. and I say this on a day when my smart phone decided to kill its camera module.

I don’t know for how many generations the warning will be issued. That’s a medical decision I suppose and that will evolve. I think the App has potential and we should give it a fair go.
it's difficult to work out a hit or a miss, with bluetooth or GPS.
Let's say you go into Sainsbury's. You may come close to 50-100 people.
The app could not distinguish if these people are wearing masks nor if they are 1M or 10M from you. The risk is not the same.

I agree, but let’s give it a go to see if there are any benefits. If the App turns out to be useless, uninstall it.

Unfortunately, this is why Coronavirus affects the “disadvantaged” more severely.

Neighbours break lockdown for a game of bingo and a BBQ, two arrested

You wouldn’t find a neighbourhood of neurosurgeons BBQ ing and having a game of bingo in the street. They would be at home, finding things to do and keeping their children under control.

How precise is the Bluetooth distance estimation?
