I'm not going to spend a hundred quid plus on a phone and ongoing charges as well on something I can't use. Like many others I'm taking a stand against the blackmail that dictates what we buy, such as parking meter charges that can only be paid by phone and the smart meter swindle that is costing all of us at least £80 for something that doesn't work for huge numbers.

It would help if our pathetic governments ensured 100% 2G coverage to make smartphones and smart meters actually useful for everyone, rather than racing ahead with 4G and 5G for the fortunate.
.
I fully agree that we should not need a phone to park, for ticketing and check-in purposes, etc.

I fully agree that we need 100% basic service (maybe 2G and 3G?) even if that means the companies having to implement some sort of roaming-type technology in the sparsest areas.

But, if you have home broadband, there are options. Whether wifi or a picocell.

Well you're right there sw I caught that Asian flu back in the 60's, horrible it was. But life just carried on, mind you we didn't have the internet or 5000 tv channels to see it all on in those days. The term 'Lock Down' didn't exist then, you just sat around feeling i'll and when it was gone after two or three weeks you just carried on.
When I had recovered I went round to see my mate who also had it and check how he was, Christ he was in a hell of a state swollen face the lot.
I had a flu vaccination. :)

No that was some other thing Hancock was involved in which proved to be a failure.
I can't figure out why they chose the IOW to test this app, great if it works and great if you live in Ryde or Newport, but there's still many places over there tucked behind the hills that you can't pick up a TV signal from let alone 4 or 5g.
Considering I can see the IOW Rowridge TV antenna from my living room it's so high and I'm miles away that's really weird.
The Preseli transmitter is impressively visible. (And provides a decent TV signal with just a loft aerial. Which is good considering the winds!) But we too have all too many gaps in all mobile signals, all networks, all Gs.

I know. I bought a pair of AirPod Pros last week, China again, and my Mac Mini, iPad and iPhone, all made in China!
I heard this on the radio the other day.

Several years ago Barack Obama was in a meeting with Steve Jobs (Apple co-founder). He asked him why didn't Apple make the iPhone in the USA instead of China. Jobs replied if they did that then they wouldn't be able to sell any as no one could afford to buy one.

Trump keeps going on about how he wants to bring all the work back to the USA from China which on the surface seems like a good idea. What he doesn't say though is how much all the flashy new tech is going to cost the consumer if its made in the west. Doubt too many people will be happy paying 3 or 4 times as much as they pay now for the latest shiny gadget.

I know you don't want a smartphone but even if you did you wouldn't want it to be on 2G.

so did you go to the doctor and what did they tell you back then?
Nah..no Doctor, back in those days a Doc would call on you if you were sick. My doctor was Irish and fond of the old juice, I don't think he could have found his way round to my gaff anyway.

Preseli, am I right in saying that's where the stones from Stonehenge came from ?

Be very afraid.....
I'm just waiting for the first conspiracy theorist to claim anyone downloading the app is 57% more likely to catch the virus. They like to use numbers like 57% it sounds more believable. Where is soundwave when you need him, I bet he has head something about all this.:D

I suppose they chose it because to some extent it’s a closed community, a mini country to test it on. I would imagine the busy areas, where the probability of having contact with the more people is higher, will have mobile connectivity.

The issue seems to be definitively settled, then up for questioning again!

Just a few months ago, someone seemed to decide that they had come from the Preselis, but not the precise location that had formerly been claimed. :)

Nonsense.

I am well and decide to go out - maybe to buy food. I come home. I think I have covid-19. Indeed, I become very obviously ill, so am self-isolating. But the FACT of me being ill with covid-19 does not, cannot, be fed back into the system if my phone doesn't connect from home.
‘That’s a niche issue for which there may be a workaround. Connect your phone to your WiFi for example.

so how did they get your phone number? did he call or just not bother even tho you had to fill in a form with all of your details on to register as to use you as a profit unit.

I don't give a toss if GCHQ knows anything about me, because there's nothing to know.
I would however, be somewhat displeased if my data, given freely to "save lives and to save the NHS", ends up being sold to the likes of Cambridge Analytica in order to further enrich the Tory incompetents running the UK.
I can’t see that happening. The data commission will be all over this. At the end of the day, a willingness to engage with this App could save some people’s lives. It’s not guaranteed, but if successful, it could. That’s why I will be putting these comparatively trivial concerns aside and cracking on. These are unprecedented times and we need to be flexible for the sake of other people.

I think you need to look at how rich the likes of Apple is. It's marketing expertise allows it to sell very stylish products at greatly inflated prices, the guts of an iPhone are no more expensive to produce than any of the cheaper brands so there is plenty room for Apple to manufacture in the west without necessarily increasing price. Of course this will result in reducing the level of profit from obscene to reasonable.

‘That’s ‘em. Active noise reduction or pass through mode. Absolutely fantastic.
Have been looking at them and trying to understand quite what the inside ear microphone does? Most such devices don't seem to have one.

If you suffer from objective tinnitus, would it noise cancel it?
