There are just too many coincidences making CV such a clever virus. It is without doubt 'optimised' for high R0. WHO gave it (basic reproductive number) 2.0-2.5, SARS 1.7-1.9 and MERS <1.
if you google 'polybasic cleavage sites', there are a lot of studies showing that they boost the virulence of the virus.
Because there is no backbone residue of commonly used virus vectors, I think it is more likely it was done using gene editing technology.
Who, and why are obviously the pertinent questions, or at least who let it escape?

you have to ask Donald Trump.
He's got the progress reports.

A lot of German labs have developed MABs (monoclonal antibodies) against polybasic cleavage sites in avian flu. They may benefit in selling their antivirals.

Hancock doing his version of a pose likely to be used by Auguste Rodin for a bust to express denial , that expression tells all! Well done Matt

Two-metre rule could be be reviewed, raising hope of relaxed restrictions
Changes to social distancing could also pave the way for businesses to restart trading as the issue becomes a "live discussion" in Whitehall

Ministers have asked the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) to look again at whether people need to stay so far apart, amid growing evidence that coronavirus does not transmit well in the air.

(Sage) AKA (Cummings) ?

And let's be a little obvious, if it doesn't transmit well in air how come the two metre spacing rule has worked to reduce transmission?

Does any remember the Brian London Muhhamad Ali fight when Harry Carpenter was quizzing London after the fight?

London said "I had him worried in the third round"
Harry Carpenter in amazement "What???"
Brian London "He thought he'd killed me!"

I think I'm right in saying what defines the right to open a store or shop is not only the necessity of it's products but it's ability to achieve social distancing in store. It's easier for large places like B&Q what with self-service etc. but not so easy with say a garden centre. They may have plenty of open ground with fruit trees and shrubs growing, but in most instances small narrow checkouts where it's not too easy to keep people separated.
The problem though is some garden centres are massive with lots of room to play with but they are all tarred with the same brush unfortunately. I do wonder who's watering the marrows if no ones at home ?
Come to think about it what about the ubiquitous corner shop, no room to swing a cat normally so how the heck can you practice social distancing yet they can open.
Our local butchers is quite substantial - you often see four staff working behind the counter. They have placed a simple trestle table across the door - but just inside. You queue up outside, along the pavement, and only one person goes in.

They started a delivery service - free for orders over £15 within town. It is obvious that they are sending out vast quantities as there is always a large pile of boxes being prepared/ready to go.

Keep providing updated advice until it is the advice we want to see.

And what about the transmission over much greater distances that was mentioned yesterday? And on pollutant particles mentioned a few days ago?

‘It’s another case of making “the science“ fit the cash register. The likes of the Barclay brothers want the tills to start ringing again, so they have instructed the government to make “the science“ sympathetic to that objective.

If distancing doesn’t have any effect, has the past few weeks and £billions been a complete waste of time?

I've always thought it can drift around over great distances. Sometimes I might be walking along the road and suddenly smell cigarette smoke but there's nobody around me, then I look ahead and maybe a hundred yards along the road I spot someone taking a drag on a fag. All that way away and I can still smell it, so if it can travel that far surely a virus could too.
Many years ago, I used to smoke. I gave up and became almost obsessive about the smell of smoke. Over the months, that faded.

But when I became hypothyroid, I started to smell smoke in crazy situations. Places I knew for certain there wasn't any smoke at all. Eventually found that phantosmia is a reasonably well-known medical issue which can, and does, occur in some people with hypothyroidism, especially in the early days of treatment when they are likely under-dosed. Even in those who have never smoked.

I think I am back to normal now, only smelling smoke when it really exists.

The trick when "Following Science" can be compared with this logic
"If you are sheltering under a tree, and the rain starts coming through, you can always shelter under another tree"
The same principle applies to scientists who's opinions you are sheltering under.

They started a delivery service -
As kid I was doing that for Ralph's the butchers on Saturday mornings riding a trade bike from 1946 on. Delivering the weekend joints and collecting the money for the meat with no delivery charge. Meat delivery was commonplace back then.

The afternoon was helping Sid the junior butcher to make the sausages for the week ahead., austerity post war sausages in those days, 90% soaked stale bread, 10% meat of sorts, plus herbs and seasoning! Amazingly they tasted ok.

Just delivering some shopping to people who are shielding. And wanted to make sure I kept physical distance. There's at least two metres from driving seat to anything in front.

(They are about 5m long with around 3m wheelbase.)
