If distancing doesn’t have any effect, has the past few weeks and £billions been a complete waste of time?
Despite the measures we've had one of the worst experiences in Europe.

So its likely that very limited distancing has had no effect and the limited gain we've had is entirely due to the "staying at home" and "working at home" by many.

The trick when "Following Science" can be compared with this logic
"If you are sheltering under a tree, and the rain starts coming through, you can always shelter under another tree"
The same principle applies to scientists who's opinions you are sheltering under.
The advice given to me was shelter under a tree, and when the rain drips off the leaves, it has probably stopped raining, so go somewhere not under a tree.

Surprisingly enough, it works quite well for showers.

You aren’t supposed to notice that we have the worst government in the world when it comes to dealing with Coronavirus. You have been told not to make that comparison.

What does it mean when I hear that “scientists” are reviewing whether it’s necessary to observe 2M distancing?

How many U turns are these clowns going to make on the advice they issue. They initially issue advice that stops you in your tracks and makes you ask WTF. Then, weeks later, they reverse the initial advice and align it more closely to sanity.

I don’t know how they get these “scientist” at the Downing Street briefings to dance to the government’s tune, but for me, they have lost all credibility, I don’t trust them and I follow my own science.

Am I allowed to drive 30 miles to get to a B&Q?

And when I get there, can I buy anything they have in stock? Or does at least one item have to be classed as essential?
The definition of essential is arbitrary. A single light bulb or a fuse or a tap washer is essential . Even a screwdriver might be if you are locked out of the toilet..

Our local butchers is quite substantial - you often see four staff working behind the counter. They have placed a simple trestle table across the door - but just inside. You queue up outside, along the pavement, and only one person goes in.

They started a delivery service - free for orders over £15 within town. It is obvious that they are sending out vast quantities as there is always a large pile of boxes being prepared/ready to go.
Exactly.. all our local shops are working that way. No browsing, but there are taped markings on the street and people respond to this. Many shops have made arrangements with local van drivers . The breadshop goes a little further.. My favourite a multi grain Low GI is in high demand, so I place my order one day and the next I go down, wait in que, get my prepackaged order ,pay by contactless and complete the shop transaction in 30seconds.. mind you I may be 20minutes waiting in the que, being buffeted by gale force winds ,off the sea

Think of all that Coronavirus blowing over the oceans from America, making landfall at your bread shop and setting onto your multi-grain Low GI loaf. I hope you are toasting it thoroughly to kill off the virus.

It gets ever more confusing the closer (ha!) you look.

Am I allowed to buy petrol - yes. But do I have to go to the local petrol station and pay 107.9, or can I travel 10 miles in order to pay only 102.9? (Ignore whether I use more petrol doing that. It is for general discussion.)

Am I allowed to choose to buy my fuse or tap washer from B&Q 30 miles away? Or am I expected to buy from Homebase, Screwfix, Wickes, Wilko, or whoever?

Ok.
Blue shirts ... Spanish Fascists eg Franco
Brown Shirts ..German Fascists eg NAZI
Black Shirts ...Italian Fascists and slightly later British Fascists
Of those groups the Spanish persisted until Francos death 1970?.
White face, black shirt - Gene Vincent.

Actually it is the 90 miles direct over sea journey from Blackpool Lancashire and Liverpool which worries me more. And yes thanks for asking, but I usually do toast it.. Today being Saturday , it is customary for 2 poached eggs +ketchup, 2 slices toasted, and ample tea. Weekdays is 1 boiled egg and 2 slices toasted with marmalade ... I leave Sunday to your imagination.

But I’m not a Spaniard and Franco’s dead.

You could be right. However, I think the major reason of our bad outcomes was the delay in lockdown so the peak and decay curve had an unnecessarily high starting point. That masks the effectiveness of limited distancing, so we can't draw conclusions about it.

I agree, and lack of ppe, testing, effective contact tracing (like Germany, South Korea, taiwan). And the constant bs and denial from the cabinet masking the truth, creating false reassurance, making the public not follow guidance, leaving key workers in care homes as unprotected nodes for spreading the virus before dying. Yes, we ****** covid. Like we will **** Brexit and practically everything else we turned our insincere limited talents to. But, hey, we can always bs our way out of it again.

Those that work on the front line as it were, and I'm thinking Bus drivers or store checkout staff just seem to shrug it off and get on with it. Others question is it worth the risk take the 20% pay cut and stay at home.
Maybe I'm a coward but I wouldn't work if I felt I was constantly exposed to any sort of hidden danger, memories of those dreadful asbestos days spring to mind.
I spent years actually using asbestos at work, and was extremely lucky to survive, but then I was ignorant of the danger as they made damned sure not to let us find out, blaming the many guys who died early with all sorts of reasons, smoke, Black foundry sand, exposure to cold or heat, and even noise, but mainly to them smoking drinking, bad diet or bad luck, but never asbestos

most of our government's scientific advisors are there to be human shields for the ministers.
