Yes, most of the merchants have closed. There are a few doing deliveries only around here, but it’s hit & miss what turns up. The sensible thing is to stop working for the time being.
I can see building work starting up in Ireland after May 5 . Building providers and gardening centres are allowed deliveries . The problem with building sites is not the actual working there in terms of social distancing, it's getting to work. The usual practice is to park the car at some location and all pile into the Transit

Baby is apparently due early summer. Just resign, don't bother going back to empty your desk, straight into paternity...
That will make the first time he has shown any interest in one of his whelps (assuming he doesn't scarper for pastures new as usual)
It must really cramp his style that so many people are watching him this time!

UK making 'impossible demands' over Europol database in EU talks

Leaked German government report shows Britain has been requesting special access

The British government is making impossible demands over access to Europol databases in the negotiations over the future relationship with the EU, according to a leaked assessment of the UK’s position drawn up by the German government.

As talks between the two sides resumed via video calls this week, Britain’s negotiators not only refused to extend the transition period because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but also stated the UK side’s eagerness to continue taking part in EU-wide data-sharing arrangements and even expanding their reach.

A bit more hassle to deal with. Local authorities were told to round up any homeless people and house them somewhere, anywhere but off the streets. Well that's ok in principal but where ? If hostels are already full and council places are unavailable that only leaves one option....Hotels !

When I first heard of this idea I foresaw trouble from the off and unfortunately it's come to pass trouble has arrived.
A friend of mine who works right next to a Hotel housing homeless has told me of pandemonium inside and out of the building, drunkenness and fighting all day and night with Security unwilling or unable to enforce any kind of calm. Police are being called out constantly to deal with the situations erupting inside the Hotel and in the street, lord knows what the state of the place inside must be like.
For sure the owners will chase the local authority for compo, and in turn they will want Government money in return. Expect poll tax rises to hit the roof in the future.

Building site work can be very difficult to distance, particularly when lifting. I remember hearing a site worker on a radio phone in saying they were expected to lift twenty five, 1 metre square support frames, each of which were a 4 man lift. He was asking how you get 2 metres away from the other three.

I think the building trade will be back at work before June though. I’m not convinced it’s the right thing.

Latest Advice:
1. Basically, you can’t leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can.
2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can save you, it is useless, but maybe it is mandatory as well.
3. Shops are closed, except those that are open.
4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick.
5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster.
6. Gloves won’t help, but they can still help.
7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it’s important to GO OUT.
8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes.
9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects.
10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few bats and pangolins here and there…
11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms.
12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it’s better not to go out, well, but no…

13. It’s better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don’t go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old).
14. You can’t go to retirement homes, but you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication.
15. If you are sick, you can’t go out, but you can go to the pharmacy.
16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn’t wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours.
17. You can’t see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver.
18. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don’t live under the same roof.#
19. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance.
20. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn’t say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily.
21. The virus stays in the air — well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe.
22. We count the number of deaths but we don’t know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were “almost dead” to find out if that’s what they will die of…
23. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications).
24. We should stay locked up until the virus disappears, but it will only disappear if we achieve collective immunity, so when it circulates… but we must no longer be locked up for that?

You can believe Hancock, Gove, Raab, Brandon Lewis, Lord Bethell, and the rest, but only if you don't value factual information or truth.

It is simple, very simple indeed. Stay at home. Only go out for food or medical related matters. Try to get as much shopping bought as possible when you go to the supermarket to minimise the frequency of your visits. If you like, take about an hour’s worth of exercise a day, but don’t drive a ridiculous distance to do it. Don’t be a twat.

People are deliberately trying to make it complicated either because they are ***** or they are very stupid.

The whole business is about moderation. It makes no difference if those 4 or 6 people are close together for the 3 minutes needed for the lift.. provided they are not kissing each other. Transmission through the air is negligible , particularly in open air environments. Spitting into the hand before sealing the deal should be discouraged ..

Or members of the Government....trying to evade responsibility, as most of that was quoting them verbatim!

Thought for the Gammon among the population

It's St George's Day so people are tweeting #ProudToBeEnglish

I wonder if they know he's a Cappadocian Greek who never set foot in England & is also the Patron Saint of Portugal, Malta, Ethiopia, Georgia, the Palestinian terrorities, Serbia and Lithuania?

My forecast is that it will be back to work and back to school on Monday June 1st.

That day and date are just too convenient and tempting for the politicians to ignore and miss the opportunity.

Just found out someone breaking the stay at home rules had an argument with a cop close by where I live, he then made the mistake of showing the cop what he thought of him by pulling a knife out.
Seven month's in the slammer was the result now he has forced isolation.

No, it's often very far from simple, as the police illustrated when they treated it as such and came a cropper.
.
Unfortunately the police reflect society and in society we have massive idiots who are incapable of following basic instructions or of applying common sense. If a situation deviates a minute amount from the pre-programmed script, they are ****** and go into meltdown.

That’s why the police have made a balls up of enforcing very simple guidelines.
