at least give him a chance. Mind you he is not PM yet
he's had plenty of chances as Foreign Secretary.
BJ likes playing with big ideas. The Olympics, airport in the Thames estuary, etc.
Think big is OK in time of war but in peace time? No, it's not him. I'd rather leave my money with some bean counter.

I disagree, withdrawal only applies to serious statements.

Jo Brand specialises in extremely provocative humour, delivered in a sly manner that shows its content is not meant seriously. It's just one of the many styles of humour.

What next, are we to destroy all the recordings of Tom Lehrer on the grounds of their often very offensive content?
.
Sometimes humour falls flat. This is one such time. Whether it merits a prosecution is debatable, but an apology is not. Even if she is not prepared to, the BBC should apologise. There are numbers of women,.. particularly women who have had their faces destroyed,.

I wonder what the BBC’s response would have been if Jo Brand had recommended throwing battery acid all over Nicola Sturgeon?

Would they have been as relaxed about it as they are when it concerns Farage? Sadly, I think the time has arrived to shut the BBC down. It’s been hijacked.

But isnt that a bit rich coming from someone who want to throw recycled gas cookers into nicola's beloved carcass...?

You already know, she did say that since she said politicians, and Nicola Sturgeon is a politician.

It was a joke, sick humour. By definition not meant. That may not be what you like, nor me, but many others do and only they can say if that type of humour is successful.

Your sort of reaction is just an extension of the nanny state and political correctness, both increasingly unwelcome and intrusive into others lives.

But I’m not a national broadcasting organisation carrying all of the responsibilities which go with that. I’m just a nobody.
Im not sure the law cares about the stature of the person making the threats. Even if it does, the bbc could do a facebook and say nothing to do with us guv, freedom of speech, liberal democracy and all that shite, take it up with jo. even if they didnt, isnt it morally a bit hypocritical? For the record i think its an own goal. It gives politicians more opportunity to pretend to be victims/martyrs

I totally agree with you Flecc, but what I don't like are the double standards at play. If a man had made those comments or indeed someone like Farage the BBC would have been calling for apologies/enquiries/sackings etc. When a leftie comic does it it's ok

the tories are scared of the competition: Farage on the right, JC on the left, and even of their own shadow.
BJ promises to his supporters self confidence, that they are not going to lose their jobs and tax cuts.
If it does not turn out that way then oops he's done it again!
Oh ye of little faith.

Yes rejoice in being a nobody.

The worst thing that can happen to you is to think you're somebody.

Nobody is good.

My preference is for a hard brexit,it guarantees us pleading to rejoin in full in less than two years and shames the armchair xenophobes into a generation of silence
'Guarantees'? So sure of yourself huh? Fool you.

You want a hard Brexit because you think it will be so terrible that you will be proved right about it all.

OK. Fine. I think you'd be found very wrong.

Of course that's just my opinion against yours. But you really think within two years we'd be asking to come back?

To me that just shows how out of touch you are with the energy that created the leave win in the first place.

There are so many of us who also don't want to be proved wrong - and will do almost whatever it takes to be right.

I know which side I'm backing.

I agree, the BBC is very uneven at times about the standards it applies and those standards are definitely lower than in the past. However I do think there is a big difference between a comedian making a joke and someone else like Farage saying the same, even if intended as a joke. With a known quantity like comedian Jo Brand we know what she says is intended as humour.
