although brexit is supposed to deliver more control to parliament, the thing brexiters fear the most is parliament gains control of brexit. Mad.
Actually it makes a sort of perverse sense as the Brexiters though that they were delivering damaging blows to Parliament, and reducing it's power over them.
For a large percentage they really thought little further than that, as they had been told the EU was the source of all evil, and then would you believe it, Parliament then said it wanted to stay in!
They felt it had betrayed them
Which was in fact true.
As to showing Parliament that the public rule.
How naive can they be to believe that?

Actually this thread seems some monitor of how this forum thinks Brexit is going....late June the thread was full of leavers who said 'it's a done deal,we are going to leave, deal with it'
Now even the most ardent leavers are going lukewarm on the idea of leaving and many seem to accept that hard Brexit is impossible and soft Brexit is just not worth the trouble.
Certainly the leavers have gone as quiet as the 3 Brexitears.....Brexitears is not a spelling mistake.!

The European Union
at times the Brits have a masochistic nature
And the winner of understatement of the day is (drum roll)...

This is going to make a great film I bet Hollywood is working on it already. But will it be a comedy or a political drama? Who will play the role of the 1%?

Theresa May must be very worried....I think by now she would have expected Boris to be usual Boris,by that I mean he would have entertained with a Boris stunt and made sure that everyone knew that Boris and Brexit were an item.
But Boris has been very quiet, maybe he is brighter than his manner would suggest,at the moment if you asked anyone who is the Brexit leader most would say Theresa 'Brexit means Brexit' May. She is being forced to take the lead on Brexit, which means that she will take the fall when it fails,I bet Cabinet meetings with Boris are interesting.
Theresa May is also taking the lead on this 'I can trigger Article 50 without parliament',she says government lawyers have informed, but in typical Yes Minister style no mention who these lawyers are or who from No 10 advised the matter,a leak without any substance.
These people don't care a dam about our country this is all a political game of chess to satisfy the ambitions of a few,if May is the Queen she should look out for the devious moving knight which can attack when you least expect.

Which leads me to the conclusion that Baldric (Sorry Boris) cunningly leaked the story to drop Mrs May in it!
(And of course take the heat off him!)

When I was involved in my share trading days,I used to put ideas onto share trade forums, with some possible substance to the idea,it was an interesting task researching the background to the possibility.
Bear in mind this was all done from basic equipment, with basic trading software.
In the heyday of Philip Greens retail expansion drive I put forward the idea that Green was about to make a takeover offer for House of Fraser,It was spread on a few forums, who picked it up and it snowballed. The Daily Mail published it the next day as almost a done deal,House of Fraser shares rocketed,it got featured on breakfast TV.
Green and House of Fraser put out a press release to calm the situation and questioned where the story had come from, the shares promptly returned to base.
It is amazing what you can achieve if you do your homework and make the story plausible,I suspect there will be similar stories evolving out of the Brexit camps when it suits, even from Boris's mates laptop.

Unquestionably there is a "Not visible to the public" "Arrangement" being run by a powerful group that may well spiral out of control, or rather out of the control of Parliament. (If it ever was in it's control) throughout this whole sorry affair, like an iceberg much is hidden under the surface, but clearly whatever the agenda is it is intended to place power anywhere BUT where it will ever serve the public interest, and beyond it's control.
Amazing what can be achieved with lies, promises, rumour and propaganda.
What is now in real doubt is whether Parliament is or ever was, the power in the land.
Not only have we now got a divided nation, but a divided Parliament that appear to suffer both internal and external conflicts over power at the same time.
And as icing on the cake, the voting public who opted for Brexit now imagines that power in the land has passed to them.
No wonder foreign nations tend to think the British have finally gone insane.

Parliament is also very quiet at the moment, which is a surprise when you consider there are so many remainers within. I wonder whether they are waiting for the Corbyn v Owen Smith outcome and also a low point for Theresa May,maybe October,a lot seems to be considered in October!
Or maybe the moment that Sturgeon can do the most damage.

But I guess we're all a bit disoriented. I'm over the copulating moon that it seems to have played a key role in sinking ttip. Our children will do repetitive BBC documentaries thirty years from now about the way a completely thick self indulged generation got one thing right.

The Express is at it again!
‘GET ON WITH BREXIT’ Theresa May orders bitter pro-EU mandarins to do their job
THERESA May has told bitter Europhile civil servants to get on with the job and deliver Brexit.
With a new villain of the piece!
Chancellor Philip Hammond was accused of 'blocking' Brexit
"
BREXIT BACKLASH: Hammond tries to slam brakes on Prime Minister's exit strategy
CHANCELLOR Philip Hammond is spearheading a campaign to slow down Brexit, despite Theresa May telling all Cabinet members to put exiting the bloc top of their agenda.
But Mr Hammond is said to be attempting to slow down the moves for Britain to parachute out of the failing EU administration.

He is said to have lobbied the Prime Minister to ensure that the UK's financial services sector is protected ahead of any exit but was staunchly supportive of the Remain campaign.
Which means the exact opposite of the Express Claim as he obviously wants a more careful approach.
Inevitable there was the usual nonsense of calling them "Bitter" where perhaps rational would be a better insult!
And "parachute" out of a "Failing EU administration?
"Tombstoning" would be more appropriate for this obviously failing administration we have here.
And the usual Express poll where 95% claim Britain will be a big success out of the EU.

And now the Brexiteers have competition says the Daily Mail
"
Treasury slammed over 'power grab': Hammond accused of muscling in on Brexit by demand UK retains access to the single market
  • Philip Hammond has been accused of muscling in on Brexit negotiations
  • He has been demanding that the UK retains access to the single market
  • Says UK needs to be in economic area to benefit finance and car industry
  • But Eurosceptic ministers say he is using his position as a 'blocking mechanism'
Amid reports of a Cabinet split, the Chancellor is urging colleagues to agree that Britain needs privileged access to the economic area for the benefit of its financial sector and car industry.

Note the terminology
Treasury Slammed......who by? who are these MP's working for?
What inherently is wrong with what he's asking for?
Anyone care to guess?
Are the pro Brexit MP's trying to ruin the country?, if we don't protect the services and car industry we will literally face Destitution nationally.
They are not doing their cause or indeed the voters who supported them any favours.

Accidentally...
And very likely the Brexit Mps will have a TTIP deal between the UK and the US as the driving force behind their campaign.
Since the EU say talk between them and the US have broken down on the issue.
It's a fair bet that is what was behind the whole campaign against the EU all along.
They actually want us to become a satellite state of Corporate America.

Very apt, OG!

I'm sure the Scots Bard wouldn't mind one bit at your usage of his written words. He seemed to have a nice turn of phrase and a great understanding of politics in the 18th century although I'm not sure many people had ever heard of politics back then. I know the piece was written 225 years ago which predates 'Pedelecs' so I wonder which side of the debate he would be on if this forum had been available to him.
