North Staffs
Sir Andrew Cahn,ex CEO of UK trade and investment, with a staff of 2500 and budget of £400million has estimated to replicate by the UK all the EU trade deals and directives currently in hand with 53 countries would take 20 years to complete, will we be still discussing Brexit on this forum in 2035?
20 years!

You mean to say they have not had their staff cut? Shameful.

In 2004 there was a strong movement to Global Free Trade agreement,I understand that 60 countries were interested in joining such an organisation but cannot find much reference to it since,
Now that would be a positive move to justify leaving the EU,it would make Dover the smuggling capital of the world,....I bet the French customs would be very busy.

Unless you are in the cabinet, you cannot know what is - or is not - being done to prepare for Brexit.

Seems likely to me the story was put out with May's blessing as a gentle reality check to all those who somehow think Brexit won't happen.
Far more likely it was put out by Murdoch and co in line with his famous line in February
" once asked Rupert Murdoch why he was so opposed to the European Union. 'That’s easy,' he replied. 'When I go into Downing Street they do what I say; when I go to Brussels they take no notice."
Anthony Hilton column for Thursday's Evening Standard,
And here is another one of the hints from Murdoch
"
Speaking at a Times event in London on Tuesday, the mogul said Johnson would face a “bloody revolt” if he backtracked on promises made during the referendum campaign, according to tweets by journalists in the audience.

The Sun columnist Trevor Kavanagh (who is close to Murdoch) picked up the theme in a piece in Wednesday’s edition.

Bloody Revolt? do you seriously think he is talking about a public reaction and NOT his own, and the rest of the movers and shakers?

Don't kid yourself RobF, Murdoch and the rest of the cabal rule, not the people who voted for Brexit, and by the look of it nor the entire Tory party.
This has been a set up job right from the start.
With the public played like a musical instrument.
Now they are trying to do it again.

I have discovered the secret Brexit plan and it is to be released shortly to the general public

Just a little polish here and there and the names of the credits changed to the Three Brexiteers.

Relax everyone, all will be well, we have a plan after all.

PM lays down the law on Brexit! Cabinet Ministers summoned to Chequers to create action plans on making EU vote a success as May orders an end to 'turf wars'
  • Theresa May will hold Cabinet meeting to order ministers to get along
  • Marks sharp escalation to assure Eurosceptics that Brexit will happen
  • Sources say the new PM will try to stop Liam Fox, David Davis and Boris Johnson, the three Brexiteers, from 'jostling for position' in Cabinet
she will also 'bang a few heads together' in an attempt to stop the feuding between Liam Fox, David Davis and Boris Johnson – the Ministers who are on the frontline of the Brexit negotiations

Dr Fox, the International Trade Secretary; Mr Johnson, the Foreign Secretary; and Mr Davis, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, were already wary of each other before Mrs May handed them overlapping briefs in her first Cabinet. The three Ministers – known as the Three Brexiteers – have spent the summer jostling for position.
The best bit is this
"She will also encourage the three-quarters of Cabinet members who campaigned to stay in the EU to identify Brexit opportunities in their own departments. "
Find something we can lie about eh?
There are similar articles in the Telegraph, Express and Mail.
I suspect the Three Brexiteers (especially Boris) will be needing new jobs before long.
Obviously reading between the lines the clueless trio have achieved nothing of any value as they couldn't run a Whelk stall either between them or individually.
And the rest of the pro Brexit Camp are getting impatient, in case the public lose interest.

Bite the Bullet Mrs May, and just start the process of leaving, otherwise article 50 is dead in the water, or did you intend that to happen?

Actually the Three Brexiteers have probably by now realised the enormity of the task they face and struggle to even begin to tackle it.
Looking back at the comments of that Professor of Law at Glasgow university, the problem of disentangling the UK from the EU is far too complicated for the "Three Stooges" to handle even with the unwilling aid of members of the Uncivil Service who don't want the job anyway, and "Consultants" drafted in at immense expense, who are unlikely to want to end this Gray Train of a job before hell freezes over.
After all would you?

You have to laugh, more in hysteria than humour that we got into this situation by having a SECOND REFERENDUM on the EU, non legal, but immensely damaging for all that.

Lets cut to the chase and say to heck with common sense!
Article 50 today, if we are going to send the country to the dogs, let's do it the cheapest way possible rather than rob the public to enrich a load of Consultants and hangers on.

Use your mythical Dictatorial "Queen's Prerogative" powers Mrs May and add the sin of subverting the rule of Parliament to the many other failures you have presided over.

Truth or parody? I'm not sure.

If the Europeans were to decide to exclude the UK from all forms of European sporting competitions, that would create more than a few little ripples among the 'Brexit' supporters......and what if they banned us from the song contest? Oh, hang on....!

What would happen to the premier football league if all immigrants were kicked out of the teams.....Arsenal would have nil players.
First upside to Brexit,no more Euro song contest.!!!

The next week will be interesting. Murdoch press - sunday times - alleges hedge funds have bet 8.5 billion against recent steadying of pounds decent. Economy aside I guess what the pound does is a barometer for the size of the squall ahead, and article 50. Who knows what will happen,we live in increasingly uncharted territory.

If you read the Sunday Excess we are in this middle of a HUGE "post Brexit Boom", the problem is that fractions of one percent no matter how you talk them up will not hide the true situation, which is that this month is one for exceptional consumer spending due to the annual school holidays.

The paper is getting more and more desperate to pretend the good news is pouring in and we are hurting the EU, which is now allegedly in desperate straits.

Clearly that BS is aimed at the bottom feeders who seem to delight in other people facing problems.
The Murdoch press grows more desperate to drum up support for Brexit and no longer seem connected even by the slimmest thread with reality.

To them Brexit has already happened and is a huge success.
How the heck can something that hasn't even begun be hailed as having created a boom?

Every retailer in the UK knows that the month of August is always traditionally a quiet month because so many are away on holiday.
There will be good business from those buying using Euros and dollar linked currencies so places like the designer villages will do well, but these are tiny business relative to the High Street or Internet traders.
It's amazing that Murdoch papers and media are absolutely opposite in their views against the others,I am finding the Independent are closer to the truth, well from my viewpoint.
If we can create a boom by creating uncertainty and increasing prices then I am clearly out of touch with basic economics....but maybe Murdoch knows better, hehe.
The biggest problem with Brexit is the perception of the U.K. by the rest of the world....the Americans and Asians cannot understand what we are doing, most of them think we are idiots.....one commented that we tried to make our country smaller by voting for the Scots to leave and now we want to split from our biggest customers, they ask me why we are doing this....I can't give them a sane answer, other than to say at times the Brits have a masochistic nature.
If you look at the Euro v the Chinese RMB it has been very consistent ,look at Pound v RMB it's like a roller coaster....the Chinese know that the UK are historically good traders but from their viewpoint shipping to Rotterdam looks a whole lot safer than shipping to Felixstowe.

The ultra-right media is using it's influence in an attempt to calm the fears and growing impatience of the 'Brexit' camp. Put another way, they are lying, bending statistics and part-truths in the way that fascist propagandists have always done.

They get away with it because it's what the simpletons want to hear. Only when the whole caboodle finally comes crashing down right into their family life with the inevitable contraction of personal finances, job losses, hugely expensive holidays, (only for those who can afford them), white goods, cars and everything desirable that has to be imported, will the blind eventually realise they backed the wrong horse.

Frankly, a country, many inhabitants of which are unable to distinguish between right-wing and left-wing politics - 'the BBC is awash with the loony left', as just one example, - deserves to be treated with the contempt they receive from the warmongering, right-wing inbreds who comprise the tory party, the media, aristocracy and corporate Britain.

66 days after the momentous referendum result, the numbskulls in charge of divorcing the UK from the EU still haven't even begun to make inroads towards that end yet all they need do is invoke Article 50 and we will be on our way - what reason could there possibly be for any delay in that part of the process? We were given to understand that the UK would be a far better country outside of the 'control' of the EU 'unelected' officials so let's get on with it.

In my view, to leave the EU would be catastrophic for Britain and could also create difficulties for a lot of other nations but given that I'm in a minority, I'd like the country to have some stability and direction for the future, both those things absent since the choice was mad. That requires either going full-speed ahead with the exit process or withdrawing entirely from the indicated national preference and playing a full part in the EU after apologising for our stupidity.

although brexit is supposed to deliver more control to parliament, the thing brexiters fear the most is parliament gains control of brexit. Mad.

I suspect that the reason for the delay is that the Government lack "Bomb Disposal Skills" and have been trying to find someone either with the skills to defuse it, or to pin the blame on if they light the fuse by invoking Article 50.

After all they cannot seriously expect Boris and Co to manage anything more than lying in from of cameras, surely?

Their function is to confuse the public and the MPs who are Eurosceptic.
I note with interest that nothing has been reported on the actions so far taken by these three worthies laughingly nicknamed the "Three Brexiteers"
The silence on that front is Deafening!
How come their valiant efforts on "our" behalf are not being lauded in the press?

Brexit means Brexit....Theresa May has put her top team on the job....about half the world where Boris can't go,why would you appoint Boris as Foreign Secretary?....Liam Fox and Boris are already arguing who buys the pencil sharpeners and who has heard anything from the leader David Davis. Theresa May seems to be the only one who is doing anything about Brexit.....note the negotiations were so important she went off to Switzerland to go walkies.
She must have been horrified when she returned to find the media full of 'Brexit won't happen' and 'it will be stopped by parliament' so she needed to regain the momentum with ' I can Trigger Article 50 without putting it to parliament'.....note that statement came from informed sources,ie Theresa May wanted it leaked, she has been watching Yes Minister too much! She knows that she has to keep 'spanner rattling' to give the impression to the leavers that Brexit is happening, despite the rest of her team doing nothing.
I bet she loved that comment from the ex civil servant Andrew Cahn that The UK would take 20 years to replace all the EU trade agreements with the rest of the world and that was with an experienced team, what experience has Liam Fox had of such negotiations?
The more I hear May shout positive Brexit punchlines the more I think that she is uncertain of how long she can keep this sham alive.
It's just the damage it does on the way....I wonder when someone like George Soros decides the sham has gone on long enough, piles into the pound and spreads a rumour that Theresa May is doing a U-turn and wants to stay, she cannot look towards parliament to help her out of such an attack...don't you just love politics.
KudosDave
