HMS Daring: Royal Navy sends destroyer to fight Isis despite concerns over warship’s reliability
“With the biggest defence budget in Europe and the second biggest in Nato, our Armed Forces are making a real difference around the world.”

HMS Daring, which has a crew of 190, has had a troubled past with technical issues. Built by BAE Systems, it broke down in the mid-Atlantic in 2010
"
The Royal Navy has since admitted that the Type 45 destroyers’ innovative gas turbine engines, which are supposed to provide propulsion and electricity for on-board systems at the same time, are prone to breaking down in warm conditions.

Instead of some systems shutting down gradually as the waters around the ship got hotter, the engines “degraded catastrophically” in very warm seas, First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Philip Jones told the House of Commons Defence Committee in July, leading to a total electric failure."

in very warm seas, In mid Atlantic?
I have the perfect Engineers answer to the problem
Install Gas lighting with good old reliable mantles and send a TUG to accompany it wherever it goes!

Hmmm... and you are having problems finding money for the NHS? I think I might have a clue where you could look...

Of course you need a big Army to prevent yourself from being invaded by the 7,300 immigrants just off your shores in France... o_O

the independent has a new story:

UK will never leave EU because the Brexit process is 'too complex', says top academic
Prime Minister Theresa May 'will order a second referendum', predicts advisor for the Electoral Commission.
I think it's best to ask the EU for 7-10 years emergency break on freedom of movement, then offer a new referendum on that basis.

one classic response came from a worthy titled UKIPDAve
"Simply tell the EU we are going to trade tariff free with them, and that will be with NO strings attached.
Then tell them it is their move, if they want to impose tariffs on anything we export to them, we will reciprocate in kind, the EU will lose... simple as that, they have no choice but to just shake hands on a free trade deal... Job done.

No free movement, protection from EU citizens registered for NI number before June 24th will be protected and nothing will change in return for UK citizens living in EU countries... Job done.

Keep all legislation in place and pick it apart bit by bit over the next decade prioritising the most important legislation first

There will NEVER be a 2nd referendum, remain and the establishment know how much damage has NOT been done through Brexit, we are still thriving,"
Are we indeed? and Dave, did you know that not only will there be a second referendum, we have already had it?
Job done as you might say:confused:

The Express are at it again
"
Banks prepare for 'economic nuclear winter' Senior banking analyst warns of EU APOCALYPSE
Weak corporate earnings, a banking crisis, and the Brexit vote have sparked disaster planning for the worst case scenarios in the second half of the year.
A major lender told CNBC: "This could mean triggering Article 50, a referendum in other European nations leading to a break-up of the euro or sterling hitting below $1.20 or lower.

"The banks are ready for anything now."

After the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in June, there have been talks a similar referendum may be held in France, the Netherlands and other countries."

What is curious is first of all the degree of malice to the EU countries behind this article, and the rather staggering notion that it will be a good thing even if the pound devalues to $1.20

Can anyone make sense of the logic they employ? they seem to be nothing more that a bunch of Anarchists of the worst possible kind.
These Murdoch newspapers are this countries worst enemies.
The inference of course is "Thank heavens we are leaving the EU and will be immune from all this!"
In your dreams Brexit fans, in your dreams!

That's true, but all the ill effects in our direction will be felt by our one country. The ill effects in their direction will be spread across 27 countries, many of them feeling hardly any effect.

That makes their negotiating position much stronger.

There's a slight problem in as much as the 'stuff' we buy from Europe is actually largely produce that we really need. Those unaffected by currency fluctuations or any other inflationary downside will still replace their large German automobiles regardless.

For most people, I fail to see anything but increased prices for all the imported goods. The EU will not want any other state to see Britain getting an easy ride so they will make sure we pay a price for our 'treason'.

The meeting with May and her troops on Wednesday will be interesting.
May realises that the mob will be after her blood if she doesn't appear to be moving Brexit forward but the 3 Brexiteers don't have the first clue how to progress it....Boris is a classic salesman, great at the chat but no substance,Fox's task is almost impossible and he seems frightened of his own shadow and Davis is just plain old....they will be berated by the nasty witch who must start Brexiting,October cannot come quick enough to divert her responsibities to the government lawyers.
What punishment has she dreamed up if the miserable three are not doing enough spanner rattling.
Will Sir Humphrey be demanding another 5000 civil servants,Hammond will tell them that we haven't the money and whatever happens we mustn't lose access to the single market,no red lines there. Davis will say forget the single market we must restrict immigration but Merkel has made it plain that we cannot retain access to the single market without freedom of movement of people. And don't forget the Scots,Northern Ireland and Gibraltar and 450 MP's wont help her.....May must be under such pressure, the arguments at that meeting would make a wonderful black comedy.
And all the price rises haven't started to come through yet but the mood of those who went on holiday and only got parity with the pound/euro are not going to return happy bunnies, they will blame this all on May's procrastination.
All good fun.

Hollande's attitude to the so called Le Touquet agreement, where the French allow us to restrict the jungle in France not Dover, gives some advance warning of what the French attitude will be when Brexit negotiations start.

The European Union
There is some talk here that shaking the tree (that's your referendum) will make the rotten fruit fall (that's you) forcing the politicians to fix the EU's problems real or perceived and the EU will move forward stronger and better for the Brexit thangy. It will be so much better that the UK will probably want to rejoin...

agreed. The dissatisfaction started when the USSR disintegrated, the UK 'elite' politicians pushed for the enlargement of the EU while probably the majority of the population did not.

Mrs May rushed to accept a poisoned chalice because she imagines herself emulating the great heroine of tory politicians, Thatcher the milk snatcher.

I suspect her friends at tory central office will desert her the moment tory fortunes begin to look less optimistic and I think that process may have already begun. Secretly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 1922 committee has an alternative party leader lined up for the moment May's position begins to look untenable.

Now, the question is: Are our three potential eggheads smarter than the other side's 27 eggheads? Time will tell. Tick-tock.....tick-tock.......

Perhaps we should adopt the same agenda as the forthcoming heads of state meeting on the 16th September a 2 1/2 hour morning session followed by a 3 hour informal lunch and then a final 2 hour afternoon session:rolleyes:
