I think the confusing taxation messages from the government are the major factor in deterring people for driving a new car. There exists a kind of unspoken message that Diesel will be hit with penalties and to some extent engine size will be a factor. However, there is no clarity and that makes it difficult to decide what to have. That makes people insecure about taking on further debt in order to be able to drive the latest flashy model with Apple Car Play and en-suite toilet facilities, or whatever the current gimmick is.
Brexit may be a small factor for manufacturers shifting fewer models, but I think that I outline the major one above.
We know this to be true. New car sales have been on a downward trend for a while now. But don't waste your breath trying to change the narrative of Brexit misery on here. Any slightly bad news is of course down to Brexit.
