another fact...

We have accounts with HSBC and Natwest, both have contacted us within the last 24 hours to notify us that the interest on their / our savings accounts is being cut.

ah, the joys.
Colin...you got interest from HSBC,even before Brexit?
The next danger is that they will start charging to look after our money.

I see and I like. Quoting philosophers somehow elevates us to a higher emotional and intellectual plane from where we can look down upon the unwashed and view them with contempt. Sold, I'm having some of this:

I think BREXIT is adequately summarised by the words of Parton, written in the mid 1980s

Life is just a series of peaks and troughs. And you don’t know whether you’re in a trough until you’re climbing out, or on a peak until you’re coming down. And that’s it you know, you never know what’s round the corner. But it’s all good. ‘If you want the rainbow, you’ve gotta put up with the rain.’
(Dolly Parton 1986)

And you thought that she was just a big pair of tits. You dirty old dog :)
Since when was Dolly Parton a philosopher, hehe

It's a common theme among remainers, so at least they are consistent.

I think the rot set in with votes for women and the decline in the availability of cheap domestic labour after the First World War.

Up until then, the little people knew their place.

Sorry tillson, but Brexit is far better described by Spike Milligan's line

Since September 1986. REGREXIT is but a myth put about by the remainers. As a true BREXITER, I chase Parton's rainbow.
And you are just as likely to find a Pot of Gold at the end of that one too!
In any case I don't believe for one moment that is the part of Dolly Parton that excites, one might even say "Tittilates" your imagination, you old Dog you!;)

And an even more common view among leavers is the mistaken impression that Boris, Gove, Farage and the rest of the Menagerie of politicians pushing for Brexit, were not treating them with abject contempt and laughing at them.

And now despite everything they consistently deny the obvious truth that they have been well and truly
Rogered with a rag man's rusty trumpet.
Don't worry about the little people knowing their place, the Torys will damn sure they will in short order once out of the EU.

Looking at life through rose-tinted glasses describes pretty well how the 'Brexit' devotees seem to view life as we know it today in Britain.

They cannot grasp simple facts, admit their foolhardiness and move on. Instead they rely on a referendum result, predicated on lies, not little white lies but stonking great lies expounded by megalomaniac, fascist politicians, yet they choose to live in denial that they have been well and truly gulled by those people and live in hope that their perceived Eldorado will somehow still become a reality.

It's not much different from being a disgusting racist but denying it and getting all stroppy about it. So, nobody is really a racist any more, particularly if they are 'Brexit' fans?

yes sadly the tory rogering of the little people with brexit is well and truly past tense, now its just the small matter of the little people picking up the tab as well. However, strictly FWIW one small but very significant silver lining, for me, is the absurdity of it all. Can't speak for how you dear other forumites spend your time, but I somehow frequently find myself at present in the midst of real life pathos that doesn't feel good. I tend to read the forum and catch up on brexit news at 7 outside a café before work as a way to remind myself there's a hilariously mad world out there.

yup, somehow we've made it this far into the 21st century as a species with these three specimens as the epitome of the evolution of the species.

Indeed, in your situation where real human tragedy is something you see every day, the Whitehall Farce of Brexit must seem like a real life expression of the saying
"Its hard to remember you came to drain the swamp
When you are up to your balls in alligators."
With apologies for reference to the wrong Gender, illustrates Teresa May's situation rather well.(just insert the correct term for female genitalia.)
or perhaps the even more succinct
"It's hard to soar like an eagle when you work among Turkeys"

If it helps I share your pain:D

These three are ideal to illustrate the old Chinese proverb on Evolution

"Do not despise the humble Snake,
For Snakes may never fly like an Eagle and be low and despised creatures,
that strike without warning from hidden places.
Though they may not fly,
Very few get sucked into jet engines
Hence they survive and prosper"
