How did we end up with these idiots effectively running our country?
the economy will adapt, whatever brexit will be.
the objective of the ERG is not so much rolling back our relationship with the EU to before Maastricht as to before 1973.

.. the only problem with that analysis is that the world has moved on, UK still had the echos of its empire, Australia and NZ still looked to the mother country, the alliances made over the last 50 years have endured and a new order exists, and i had more hair...

That's because the whole country knows there is no alternative.
JC stands up and mocks TM for her handling of Brexit (whatever that now means) knowing full well his own stance is equally confused and ridiculous.

Today the European Commission has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties on e-bikes Imported from China. The Commission has opted for the imposition of per company targeted dumping duties. The provisional dumping duties vary from 77.6% for the Bodo Vehicle Group, 27.5% for Giant Electric Vehicle to 37.0% for the majority of Chinese e-bike exporters (see Annex). All other Chinese e-bike exporters are hit by a 83.6% provisional anti-dumping duty.
Be pleased that Kudos Cycles will not increase prices on its current stock....about 300 bikes total, although some models are very low on stock....when this stock is exhausted who knows???
I thought 54% was likely to be in line with normal bikes. These numbers are spiteful, the end of cheap chinese bikes into the UK....lokks like if you want an ebike in the future its going to cost £2k.

No alternative to what exactly? the plan is a dud anyway, just intended to buy time( and sympathy from the EU?)

from BikeBiz.

The news has been carried on the EC's website. The measures apply in the UK and will be imposed from tomorrow onwards, the Bicycle Association has told members.

"From then, a deposit to the value of the provisional anti-dumping duty must be paid before affected goods can clear Customs (in addition to any duties already payable). This can be either by cash deposit, bankers guarantee or the trader's deferment account," said the BA statement.

"Although these provisional measures spell the end of 'registration' in the anti-dumping case, with the uncertainty of racking up unknown potential [anti-dumping] liabilities, 'registration' continues for the anti-subsidy aspects of the case," warns the BA.

"So it remains possible that importers could still accrue further liabilities on imports. Only when the definitive measures are announced will we know whether extra duties will be charged to cover anti-subsidy, and whether these will be made retrospective."

Or just don’t bother buying one. £2K for a Chinese bike is out of the question. At least the Masters of the EU will be pleased, no viable alternative to German Ebike products now.

I think we are capable making our own Ebikes ,and there is no technical reason why they shouldn’t be a good product. The problem would be financing such an enterprise. Unless an investor can double their money in 20 minutes, no one is interested.

Dave is that supposed to be positive news. Seems to me to be one of the reasons for leaving the EU. Is the levy imposed by the EU just to protect Bosch from competition. Surely got to be bad for the UK ebike market. Come out the EU, import direct and sell cheaper. Keep their snouts out of it

that's why we gave up making things.
Table 8 in this document:

http://trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/docs/2018/july/tradoc_157124.prov.en.L181-2018.pdf

Average sales prices in the EU: 1,276 Euros (factory price)
Average production cost in the EU: 1,234 Euros
Number of units in the investigation period (2017): 1,042,268

42 Euros profit per bike and you have to make 1 million bikes to make a profit.

Well according to the pro EU village idiots in here yes it is `positive news`, after all the faceless EU cartel says so,
so all you suppliers bow down to your masters in Brussels and do what you`re told.

Will you ever learn?!

It is positive news. It means you'll find the bike that were assembled in China are now assembled in the UK.

So its bringing jobs here! It might cost the consumer a few more £s for your bike, but I thought people wanted to support UK companies.

This is the direct result of the duty.

https://cyclingindustry.news/wisper-brings-its-high-end-electric-bike-assembly-back-to-uk/

And its why all the big bike brands (Trek / Giant etc etc have assembly plants inside the EU).

Without it, the UK cycle industry would be dead.

Boris Johnson attacks May's 'miserable' Brexit plan in resignation speech
Former foreign secretary criticises Chequers agreement and urges PM to change tack

Boris Johnson's resignation speech: 'It is not too late to save Brexit' - video
Boris Johnson has used a stinging resignation speech in the House of Commons to urge the prime minister to change tack on Brexit, branding the future sketched out at Chequers a “miserable, permanent limbo”.

Johnson resigned as foreign secretary last week in protest at the Chequers agreement, which he had initially signed up to.

Giving a personal statement to MPs on Wednesday, Johnson praised Theresa May, saying: “Everyone will recognise her courage and resilience.”

etc., etc.

In truth all that's happening is we will make the next 1000 City and Trekking bikes here, then our Taiwan facility will be set up and ready to go for the Autumn. We will however build our high end bikes here from the Autumn onwards but that was always going to be the case.

All the EBMA have managed to do is move production around a bit Asia or into Chinese and Taiwanese owned factories in Europe. Well done chaps!
