One reason we are not going to keep the production of all our bikes in the UK is the lack of labour available here. The brilliant, hard working Romanian super stars that will be making our bikes, may still have to go home.

Another reason is that we may not be able to sell into Europe without heavy duties, or build in main land Europe for the same reason the only solution is the bikes have to be made out of Europe all together. We can then export from TW anywhere we choose.

What a mess!
why is there no labour here. Are you saying that British people won't work or is it just that so many young people are at university until in their twenties doing courses that are not worth anything. And all because that idiot Blair wanted to get unemployment figures down. If the young people in this country are given a chance they will work just as hard and diligently as the Romanians Many of the problems have been caused by UK employers relying on an endless source of cheap foreign labour. Some jobs not even advertised in the UK. I have seen this in action. It's time that employers in this country gave them a chance. Seems to me that the EU will find it difficult to dump all the young unemployed they have created when we leave. Maybe that's another reason they don't want us to go

Has Leo (Irish PM btw!) had a tiff with the boyfriend or has the heat played a part in this rant....lol!!

Taoiseach warns - hard Brexit grounds international flights from UK:

“If they want their planes to fly over our skies, they would need to take that into account. You can’t have your cake and eat it. You can’t take back your waters and then expect to take back other people’s sky.”

This is going to be popular with international aviation. Hilarious !

I really don’t know why I can’t find anyone here to build bikes. I offer good wages but can’t find anyone to build bikes. I advertised £350 a week for a trainee electric bike builder locally for several weeks and didn’t get one response. Once we leave, this precious resource of good labour will be lost to us, it will simply make the German and French economies stronger. If anyone knows of someone in Kent interested in working with us, please let me know....... What a mess.

Exasperation more like. . I have not seen the source of your quotation, but I can take it at face value. Unless the UK does make accomodation with other countries air space, the only paths open to them will be very restricted . At present Shannon and Preswick handle all the North Atlantic traffic.
What may have escaped your attention is that Ireland, yes little old Ireland, is the global hub for aircraft leasing and contracting .. That the EU ECJ is available as a court of final appeal, helps to keep the parties honest.

Not quite in jest, but perhaps you worded the add incorrectly.. something on the lines of... Create the new world, build renewable energy systems for personal transportation.....

.. As a Chartered Engineer, my comment would be along the lines , when your political establishment, and your media extol the benefits of being a banker ,or a lawyer and sneer the actions of those who work with their hands on things, it cannot escape the notice of the young.. they are young not stupid.

Rather than blame Blair, I suggest you go back to the Thatcher years. And the "quick buck " mentality it created.

A thought something like that passed through my mind - but having not seen the original advert, obviously cannot comment. (Also very easy to overdo the hype and put people off.)

but little point in having a global hub for aircraft leasing if thanks to Leo you can`t fly them to europe - tit for tat and all that.
Where did you get this fella from? Could you ever see Bertie coming out with such nonsense?

I would have voted for Coveney, had there been an election... . But that's under bridge water. . Look more closely at the map.(looks like a Ryanair one) Ireland can go west and down to Nantes and Brest, all of North America and South America UK can only go North and over the poles ... But that's a silly argument , accommodation needs to reached for both our sakes.
.. but there is a serious side., Is it Quatar Air that is being hemmed in by the rest of the middle East states, on what are literally Trumped up charges.

What work do you think will be available that will bring IN rather than circulate money round and round if no one is willing to start up manufacturing on a large scale?
This is the myth Brexiters keep clinging on to
Give us the factories first, the jobs will follow
There aren't any are there and there isn't a likelihood of there being any either.
This statement is complete nonsense
"Seems to me that the EU will find it difficult to dump all the young unemployed they have created when we leave. Maybe that's another reason they don't want us to go"

The EU didn't create the young unemployed , how could it? they were there already in the countries our Tory Government wanted to join the EU.

And now with this trade deal with Japan, the EU won't miss us, will they?

that could be interpreted as state aid.
Just joking. I am excited at the prospect of manufacturing here.

Gives me an idea. How about building Heathrow's third runway outside Dublin? It avoids so many of the issues of doing so in London. Might really help Pembroke Dock, Fishguard and Holyhead.

BJ can still go and lie under the bulldozers (or to anyone who can hear him). In fact, maybe that would be another advantage.

Dave is that supposed to be positive news. Seems to me to be one of the reasons for leaving the EU. Is the levy imposed by the EU just to protect Bosch from competition. Surely got to be bad for the UK ebike market. Come out the EU, import direct and sell cheaper. Keep their snouts out of it
Unfortunately May has already agreed by her common rule book that she will mirror all EU tariffs post March 2019,these anti dumping duties will continue after Brexit.

I'm saying yes to those questions. What Wisper has said has been said repeatedly for years by very many employers trying hard to get young people to work for them.

The crop picking example is the most obvious. Even when they are able to get some UK young to tackle the work they often prove not up to it, working at well below the European workers rates and then walking out because they can't earn enough with their low productivity.

While the Thatcher culture undoubtedly played a part as you say, I think the root was in the welfare state we created. It was a massive achievement, but with the equally massive downside of an alternative to work, not working. Over decades that alternative became an ingrained part of our culture that it's now difficult to escape from.

"Britain’s Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) has called upon the government to continue to adopt the EU standards and allow businesses within the industry to secure EU labour.
...
Free movement of labour is a key fundamental, as approximately 25% of labour in the domestic motorcycle industry is EU sourced and the UK suffers from both skill shortages and ‘willingness to work’ issues among the domestic workforce.”
