Barnier likes the new plan, it solves several problems for both sides. NI border, future cooperation etc.
I honestly wonder if we've been living through a charade.I think you are right, if the Government does more than pay lip service to keep inside the EU customs agreement, the cost will be far more than staying in!
it does look that way. Would TM's strategy be to punish the brexit voters without losing jobs and conservative members to UKIP?Faced with a referendum result the government didn't want, it may have been decided at the outset that we weren't going to truly leave but would have to go through a convincing pretence.
I hope that that is the case. But would it not have been as easy to just have levelled with the public . It not as if there was a landslide result.I honestly wonder if we've been living through a charade.

Hence Theresa May's insistent "Brexit means Brexit" and the confrontations (fake?) with Brussel's negotiators, knowing full well that they were never going to agree to the Brexiter's demands.
It would also explain how they were able to absolutely reassure companies like Nissan and Toyota that all would be well for manufacturing trading afterwards.
All they have to do now is go through a longish transition period to make the electorate too bored to be bothered either way. They are well on the way to that already.

That agreement/ proposal will flounder on point 4. C.Her'e the link to the released chequers statement

As far as I can see it means
We are staying in the EU
With our mouths Duct taped shut.
The Brexit Natives will be upset! as this agreement cancel Brexit
The Remainers will be upset because we are worse off than we are now.
Farce! (even if the EU accept this tempting offer!)
Corbyn wont like this bit either!

The UK would commit to apply a common rulebook on state aid, and establish
cooperative arrangements between regulators on competition.
(But Conservatives will)
in time, yes, and the timing is still not right, 3 more years may be.I hope that that is the case. But would it not have been as easy to just have levelled with the public . It not as if there was a landslide result.
why? the EFTA Court works in a similar way and EFTA is less important to the EU than the UK.That agreement/ proposal will flounder on point 4. C.
that's generally true for most company bosses.Loved this comment I found elsewhere on social media:
'I find Theresa May inspirational.... No matter how terrible I am at my job, I can still rise to the top right?'
Tom
I think electoral convenience would dictate the approach I suspect. Levelling with the public would have provoked a furious reaction from the Brexiters, making it impossible to call the last election. Much easier to risk upsetting remainers with a fierce Brexit pretence, since they knew they'd lost the referendum so would react in a more resigned way.I hope that that is the case. But would it not have been as easy to just have levelled with the public . It not as if there was a landslide result.
No way,she has done what she should have done ages ago....she has stood up to the fascist Brexiteers,it is said that she had lined up replacements for Boris,Gove etc and Davis would have had to fall in line.Surprisingly muted headline in the Express this morning

Chequers plan will be ‘in TROUBLE by Monday’ Brexiteers send stark WARNING to Theresa May
it won't be quite BRINO, brexit will get immigration down.We will now proceed with Brino.
Will it.?it won't be quite BRINO, brexit will get immigration down.
And we'll still have to import EU crop pickers. Will it.?
The government have tried to reduce non EU migrants for years without success,we will just have more in the world pool of labour.
I am married to a South African,my son is dating a Spanish girl, what’s so wrong with migrants,
The 100,000 shortfall of Labour in the NHS is not going to be filled solely by Brits,we need migration.
KudosDave
Actualy it won't will it? the Governmment have already made that quite clear, though there could well be creative counting applied to the figures as usual.it won't be quite BRINO, brexit will get immigration down.
immigration goes hand in hand with foreign investments - you deter companies to come and invest here just a little, it'll buy TM millions of votes. That explains partially why the conservatives still lead over Labour in polls.Actualy it won't will it? the Governmment have already made that quite clear, though there could well be creative counting applied to the figures as usual.
Darn it flecc! you've got me "bang to rights" I used to help the Harvest when at school, and though I haven't for over 50 years, I still pick out the Gherkin from Cheeseburgers. And we'll still have to import EU crop pickers.
The class of Britons who might normally do this kind of work live on McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken, even fishing out the gherkin from burgers, so I assume they are allergic to vegetables.
.
And there we have the UK, summed up in a nutshell! A real world hunger games!... The class of Britons who might normally do this kind of work ...
