TM may seek to extend the transition to 2023.

JRM commented on the news:

"The risk of the Government using all its mental energy on the fallback position is that they create a position that is more attractive than a permanent deal."
I could hear OG sniggering in the background: 'the man is capable of some coherent thinking.'

Project Fear DEFEATED: Poll reveals UK public can’t WAIT for Brexit Britain
A NEW poll released today has rung an economic death knell for Project Fear, with only a minority of Britons surveyed concerned about negative consequences for the country's economy.

Put together by the Enterprise Investment Scheme Association (EISA), the poll is welcome news for Prime Minister Theresa May, who is battling division in her cabinet amid concerns about the financial costs of quitting the single market and customs union.

The poll revealed only a minority of the 2008 respondents, surveyed on May 11, had concerns about the economic impact Britain leaving the European Union will have.

https://www.eisa.org.uk/

EISA works closely with HM Treasury, HM Revenue and Customs, Government Ministers, MPs and the FCA to enhance the EIS and promote the benefits of the scheme to investors and companies using EIS/SEIS and their respective advisers.

Interestingly there are no actual poll results, just throwaway statements, and if the same truthfulness test is applied as it can be to this statement
"
David Moreland, the party’s Home Affairs spokesman, told Express.co.uk: “I think it’s dead right, the vast majority of people are confident - not just long-term Brexit supporters, but the general public are realising. And the politicians realise the scaremongering isn’t working.

Of course Britain can be successful after Brexit, we were before and we will be again.”

If ever there was a blatant lie that must be one of the biggest
We were called the "Sick Man of Europe" and had to beg three times to join the EEC to save our economy!
And why havent the actual results of this Poll been published?

Never forget the lies!

This horrible tart has been caught out more than once - possibly a case of 'hoist with one's own petard'......or simply caught bang to rights!

Tom
Ah but, as Davis would say
That was then....this is now etc.,etc.

Brexit Voters won't change their minds over little details like their cause being proved catastrophic, will they?

Promises were made to them by people they trusted absolutely after all

there is nothing wrong with this statement, they are not comparing the level of success.
If TM delivers brexit, then they will be happy.

Sorry, I disagree. A long term continuous decline such as that we suffered before joining the Common Market can never be correctly described as successful. It was year on year unsuccessful, ending up with the IMF coming in to run the economy until we returned to some health.

like a blue steak, we are going to get a medium to very soft brexit.
There is no way Parliament is going to vote for a no deal brexit, even if TM manages to extend the transition to 2023. That will allow the next PM to lose all the stupid redlines.
until a deal is done, there won't be any noticeable decline, that is not to say that remainers and brexiters should stop making their argument.

There is an interesting read in today's Guardian:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/may/24/uk-stop-blather-face-reality-brexit-trade-ivan-rogers

From Sir Ian Rogers:
The UK, had long lost any credibility that it would walk away from negotiations with no deal, first because it was “self-evident” no deal would be vastly worse than even a standard Canada-style free trade agreement, and secondly by the lack of any alternative regulatory preparation.
The UK, he said, would not get any serious role on policy-setting from outside the bloc without May shifting her red line on the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. “That was promulgated as a red line when no serious thought at all had been given to these questions,” he said.
For the other side, continuity on day one [of Brexit] is the reddest of red herrings. They want to know where we intend to end up on day two, day 200 and day 2,000. And they assume that must be really rather radically different, or we would not be Brexiting.

Boris Johnson in security storm after Kremlin-linked pranksters trick him into holding long phone call discussing Putin by pretending to be Armenian PM

The Foreign Secretary had an 18-minute phone call with the Kremlin-linked hoaxers
The hoax call, which apparently took place towards the start of the month, was supposedly from Armenia's new PM Nikol Pashinyan.

The pranksters asked Boris a string of questions about Russia and Putin, as well as joking, "I hope he doesn't poison me with novichok".

Asked whether he was sure that the Kremlin boss tried to kill ex-spy Sergei Skripal in Salisbury, Mr Johnson said: "We're pretty sure - we're, like, almost 100 per cent sure."

The Foreign Secretary also offered to share confidential intelligence on the case, and added: "Personally I have no doubt."

He added: "We will continue to tighten the squeeze on some of the oligarchs who surround Putin."
Boris apparently ended the call after the hoaxers told him that Putin was funding Jeremy Corbyn's Labour party.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said today: "The Foreign Secretary realised it was a hoax, and ended the call. We checked it out and knew immediately it was a prank call.

"The use of chemical weapons in Salisbury and Syria, and recent events in Armenia are serious matters.

"These childish actions show the lack of seriousness of the caller and those behind him."

But Labour MP Wes Streeting stormed: "The latest humiliation for and from a Foreign Secretary who continually embarrasses our country on the global stage. How is he still in this job?"

Brexit has allowed UK to be more ‘welcoming’ to migrants, Michael Gove claims

The Environment Secretary declared Brits now had one of the 'warmest attitudes' to migration in Europe
The Leave campaigner told a Policy Exchange conference on unionism in London: “The explicit embrace of diversity has strengthened since Brexit.

“Britain has become more welcoming to migration since the Brexit vote as opinion research has confirmed.

Every Day in every way Brexit and all connected with it get loonier and ever more out of touch with reality

I like Matthew Parris. He is the kind of soft conservatives rare to find nowadays and which are at risk of quickly becoming extinct. Their voice is completely submerged by the Trumpist 'patriotic' conservatives'..

EU WILL PAY: Theresa May vows REVENGE on Brussels as UK is excluded from security project
THERESA May has warned she will make Brussels pay for excluding Britain from a key security project. In a noticeable toughening of the government’s stance it has issued a paper to Brussels over a decision by the EU to exclude Britain from the Galileo satellite navigation project and said that it will have to pay Britain back £1 billion."

Revenge? oh for crying out loud!
