It is looking like a 500 wh Bosch bike will get closer to the £1,600 price point, although I've not seen one yet, plenty of 400 wh battery bikes about. I'd go for a hybrid over an MTB myself though, and 500 wh if possible.

This place had some very cheap bikes not long ago, but they've sold.

Struggling with cheap Yamaha bikes, but I've not searched very hard.

excellent find SW. They'll sell out in no time.
At this price, who'd want to buy Chinese???

edit

Indeed, they have just sold out.

£1600 will get you a BBS02 and battery with circa £900 left to buy the donor bike...you're spoilt for choice with that to spend:)

Edit...my just finished Whyte 46 was only 1200 to build and it's spec'd with Hope Tech M4 brakes, Nukeproof DH wheels, Fox 36 Talas RC2 forks, Fox Float RP23, RaceFace NW 38T, XT 10sp shadow+ derailleur/cassette/shifter, etc, etc!!

Gratuitous pic whoring...

Thanks Steve I'll probably stick to the BBS01B For legal reasons and the fact that trex explained that the 02 too powerful for hub gears. Is the BBS01B around the same price?

it does not matter what motor you get as you can programme them all with the data cable for more or less power and remove the speed limit.

the BBS02 is too powerful for hub gears, even for the 3-speed SRAM.
you have to have derailleur.
There are hub gears then there is Rohloff... 150 Nm of torque allowed so it will handle a BBS02.

This should be of interest, here's some Strava stats comparing the development Juicy bike with the Roller motor system compared to my old classic Bosch bike.
I did my first run on the Juicy, and second run back up on my bike, despite being tired from the first run I was 2:24 faster on my bike, I didn't find the Juicy bike enjoyable to ride in the way my bike is.

Hi Artstu
Many changes happened to the prototype since you rode it - now a very different bike to ride (which after all is how one finds out).
All stock from the first production is now sold so it will be January before we have more, and able to place around the country with retailers.
The larger wheels and shorter frame than the bike you rode, should say a lot. But it still isn't for everyone and your bike seems perfect for you (an absolute bargain IMO).
When you're next passing our way come and see the changes.

German controllers are usually better programmed, giving a smooth reduction of power whilst Chinese controllers tend to just cut the power.
But, all Chinese controllers have a 'speed limit enable' wire, which needs to be connected to function. Mine always become 'broken' in some way, which allows the motor to continue assist up to around 18mph on a 250w system.

The amount of assistance will naturally tail off as the motor spins faster (due to back EMF) so at 18mph there is very little power being consumed by the motor. It's not really about going faster, Just avoiding the big drop off at 15mph.

Wow, did not know that Bafang did CD motors for OEM Ebikes, I sure do like the look of the Max Drive, this could be plan B for me, I would of course ditch the derailleur gears, and fit either a Nuvinci or Rohloff IGH instead.
