My front light is a different shape Phill. It's fine anyhow. I'm after something that puts a bit of light to the left and right sides. Anything considered, if anyone knows of anything suitable. :)

I've been looking at the Busch & Müller lights - they seem decent quality and set are set up to work with e-bikes.
Will have to make sure that they are bright enough - depending on which commuter route I take - it might get a bit dark.

I'd prefer cabled in lights - I already end up carrying far too many cables, chargers etc - and seems a fairly simple job to wire them up.

My personal favorite. You can get them from bike-discount.de now so a bit cheaper

A friend of mine works in a hospital.

She told me the patient who complains the loudest gets the most prompt attention.

The patient who is, er, patient, and understanding of the difficulties faced by health service staff is made to wait.
This works fine in the NHS when your chances of a repeat need for good service or a favour from the same individual isn't really the same.

Bike shops, and brands are very likely to remember you if you kick off, or don't kick off, and your understanding of the situation will be rewarded I'm sure if you are nice.

For instance we had a guy who had to wait a while for a frame replacement (carbon MTB). He was super nice to the shop, because he knew it wasn't their fault, all anyone wanted was updates. Because he was understanding the shop asked us what we could do to help, because they were understanding we helped them a lot more than we would have done if they'd be shouting at us and quoting the legal minimum service standards. That guy got his next bike at cost price, so I think saved close to £2000.00 because he was nice last time he dealt with the shop.

These are small independent business, that are not trying to rob you... they are not the NHS!

I have a few bike shops around me and my go to store is determined not by price, but how they deal with me. I do a lot of research before making a major purchase so that I am as well informed as I can be and and be ask the right questions, but with my bike shop options, one just cant be bothered, one tells me what I want to hear and one makes me feel like I am a valued customer and that my opinion matters.
That's why I have spent over £9000 on bikes at Ilkley Cycles..

I expect the dealer us more concerned than you about the kph / mph scenario

I would suggest Giant won't reply, so you're wasting your time.

Leave it to Ilkley to sort out, they are good guys and I'm sure will either get you a 2017 display or find out how to adjust the software.

Its not a big deal, and bikes are not legally required to have a speedo so there is certainly no legal requirement for it to be in one format or the other.
I wrote to Giant.. Not negatively complaining or asking for refunds/discounts but in a more positive way expressing my admiration for a good product but also my disappointment that this small issue seemed to be have over looked. In the past this approach has served me well and I had a detailed reply this Morning which I thought I would share..
{Dear Philip

The Giant Road-E hybrid bicycle was designed primarily for the European market and due to this all aspects of the bike were original made to fit the European market.

After interest from the UK market Giant UK decided to offer the Road-E but as there was only the European model available we only had the this particular option.

Bicycles as standard do not come with cycle computers and there is no law to supply a computer with a bicycle so there was no reason why we could not bring in the bicycle in its current European guise.

Unfortunately there is no specific UK dash/computer available for this model but to deny Giant consumers the chance to own and ride such an outstanding Hybrid bicycle Giant felt that not having the MPH would be a small price to pay to gain access to the Road E.

Due to the success of the Road E Giant will launch an model that will in the future come with MPH, however this model will have slightly different electronics meaning that we are unable to retro fit the new dash to the MY16 model bicycle.

So unfortunately if you have a MY16 European Road E the only way to display MPH would be to have a secondary computer fitted.

Giant apologies for this but hope you understand that the Road E is a revolutionary product that Giant UK wanted to share.

Kind regards

Mark}

I personally wouldn't get upset over kph only. I don't have a speedo on my bike and I'm not that bothered by it.

I took a similar approach to you Phil
Not into shouting the odds unless it's needed.

I received a similar reply from Mark at Giant this morning, shame there is no fix
The upside is that it seems that Giant are a company who actually do respond - whether it's good of bad news - I've previously dealt with a few companies who lack any understanding of Customer Service ! !

Cheers
Mike

Couldn't agree more. Too many companies adopt the Ostrich approach hoping a problem will go away.

If they were selling it advertised as being 'UK spec', then I'd like to know what their definition of that is?

A Giant load of Blarney said:

You'd expect a cycle computer, because it was on the bike advert when you bought it, and you were promised a fix by the end of the week, because it's a glaringly 'obvious' issue for a UK bike. If that were me, I'd be taking it further.

We used people as 'test pilots' said:

However, knowing that they are in the wrong, they clearly considered this option.

Just take the apology and go said:
this model will have slightly different electronics meaning that we are unable to retro fit the new dash to the MY16 model bicycle.

If that's not possible, what is? They still have many other options. Is that really their response? It's a mis-advertised joke and I'd be making 'as described' enquiries by now if it were me. Because, call it OCD, if you like, but I'd be reminded of the feeling that I'd been had over, every time I looked at how fast I was going!

But if you're happy with those answers, I'm happy for you. :)
