That's a bit tough on the dealer. The bike isn't faulty. As said earlier it may all be a flash in the pan moment so no good throwing the baby out with the bath water.
There are good dealers and bad dealers, but also good customers and bad ones....

The good dealer doesn't mislead the good customer, intentionally or otherwise. The good dealer sorts problems out for the mislead, bad customer, that has a complaint of being mislead. Especially after they've assumed something could be changed and later found out they were totally wrong in doing so. The good dealer reimburses the bad customer. Or takes the matter higher with the bike makers that labelled kph as being UK spec.

The good customer doesn't complain about anything. Not even genuine issues. The bad customer complains and is labelled a complainant. Despite every right to do so.

Depends on your viewpoint really. Although, bringing things up publicly, does raise awareness in such matters. :)

It's a left hand drive bike.. What actually is 'UK Spec'?

Never understood why...

And that would be about it. I wonder how much this is costing us for you to have MPH in the UK? They will spread the additional cost over all EU bikes not charge more for the UK version I am guessing.

I don't think there is a legal footing for having MPH on a speedo, it is an optional, comfort gadget not obligatory equipment. The cutout speed of 15 mph + or - 10% is the only legal requirement.

Hi
Mentioned in the earlier thread - I've purchased a Giant Dirt E+
Loving the bike - but the KPH / MPH issue bugs a bit.

I've reported as a problem with my retailer today - and they have already asked for Feeback from Giant.

If it becomes a more widely notified issue, there will hopefully be a greater chance of a solution.

Cheers
Mike

Izzy - very true
but for me - not really an option I'm considering - can't find an alternative bike - at a local(ish) dealer for the price I paid - which is the top end of what I could afford.

Also had a crash on mine (probable over confidence on a bit of 'technical' track which was more of a rockery - so have a dented peddle - a couple of scratches - my first grazed knees in decades - and a bruised ego - not sure how the shop would take it.

Also - the KPH problem bugs me - but I'll probably just have to brush up my maths

Cheers
Mike

The consumer rights act is there to protect the consumer and a retailer is bound by law to observe it. You have 30 days to reject the item and the clock is ticking. As a retailer myself I understand that this can be difficult on us and feel unfair, however it is the law and why should you spend £3000+ on a bike and have to compromise. The retailer will be able to return the bike to his supplier and get a credit for the bike. Why should you take this issue on your shoulders when it is clearly not any fault. I feel that once the retailer found out that the display could not be changed you should have been offered options at that point. And you certainly should not have to take up the matter yourself. He is acting like a bad retailer and you appear to being fobbed off. Maybe middle ground is to give him a deadline to fix or refund.

Just to be clear.
As of now I have not been told it can't be fixed.

So nice to read such a refreshing attitude that Phill has.

Far too often there's this attitude of 'I know my rights' 'Not fit for purpose' 'Reject & get your money back' 'Compensation' etc. etc.

Even Col who I often disagree with suggests the 'packet of biscuits' approach in certain circumstances & I'm with him there.

Let's remember guys that the vast majority of retailers, particularly those in the e-bike game, are small business men / women who generally work their socks off to make a living.

Phill, keep up the approach you have. I'm sure it'll get fixed & Karma comes around.

So in that case it would be unreasonable to expect to return the bike but you are still entitled to have the problem fixed...

And so the 30 days right to return passes and your "good retailer" comes back with the words " Sorry Giant have said they won't do anything about this" What then! Realistically you will have no choice than to live with the km.speedo.

I was going to suggest you buy a Garmin - one would sit a treat on your roadie style bike, either on the stem or with an outfront mount.

I've recently bought an Edge Touring and have been pleasantly surprised at how simply and well it works.

Phill has already said:-

It's not like I feel I have been done over here and want to go back demanding a refund, it's just I would prefer the display to be right..

its not the end of the world!

I agree its not a big deal, but this thread has made it appear more than it was meant

& I will respect his judgement & choice.

The thirty day clock stops ticking while the retailer investigates.
Section 22 of The Consumer Rights Act refers.

Actually I have the edge 510. And an out front mount or two. The out front mount might be a problem as there isn't much room between the display and where the cables are wrapped into the bars. For now I am using the garmin twist mount on the bars
