2016 Giant Road e+1 display in KPH not MPH

Please excuse me starting a new thread on this and please dont add in references to dongles and other speedup devices.
The Giant 2016 UK spec e-bikes come set in KPH and cant be changed to MPH so anyone thinking of buying one and are bothered by this, should hold of until the 2017 bikes are available which are in MPH.
I am going to write to Giant and see what they have to say about selling a UK spec bike in the uk with a display giving the rider misleading information and am wondering if there is any sort of legal requirement here? I know bikes dont come with speedometers, but on those that do should they have to show the correct speed in an understandable manner.
I am looking for anyone else with one of these bikes, and any help in framing this letter and any of the legal stuff I might be able to add.
Comments welcomed

If you weren't specifically told by the dealer, that the display was KPH only and could not be changed to MPH..... you may be able to argue its miss selling under the sale of goods act.
Whether that would hold any weight, i have no idea.

No. I wasn't told that. I rode it away noticing the speed and went straight back. They tried all the buttons and said as it was Saturday they would sort it out next week.
It's not like I feel I have been done over here and want to go back demanding a refund, it's just I would prefer the display to be right..
On past experience a good complain to the manufacturer often gets results..

Its definitely worth complaining.... I certainly would and wouldn't be happy with only KPH, especially for how much this bike costs.
Maybe they can just swop the display with the 17 model, if they're compatible.

The fact is that you accepted the bike with KPH display, only because you were told to return to shop to have display set to MPH at a later time.
This fact puts you in quite a good position to complain that you weren't sold what you expected. You were in fact led to believe that the display could be changed when it cant..... and that is miss selling.
I would want the display changing to MPH spec, or some sort of compensation as a good will gesture.

I have found in the past its no good jumping the gun, and perhaps had I known then what I know now I might have rejected it at the point of sale, but I didn't and here we are and its not the end of the world!
Ilkley Cycles are just as perplexed as I am and are pursuing Giant through their own channels with one of their suggestions being just that (upgrading the display), as they feel it can only be a firmware issue anyway so should be fixable., but until I am told No I am keeping everything civilised.

I would suggest Giant won't reply, so you're wasting your time.

Leave it to Ilkley to sort out, they are good guys and I'm sure will either get you a 2017 display or find out how to adjust the software.

Its not a big deal, and bikes are not legally required to have a speedo so there is certainly no legal requirement for it to be in one format or the other.

Big deals, being subjective, are obviously a bigger deal for some more than others. :)

Just playing the devil's advocate here. Curiously, where does it say that 'there's certainly no legal requirement for one format or another' then? :)

Would you accept it if it displayed the Chinese language and couldn't be switched to English?

UK spec is miles per hour. Would the same bike have been bought without a speedo? Or would the buyer look elsewhere?

Did it even have pedals? You know how I feel about no pedals on new bikes! :D

Good advice.. I agree its not a big deal, but this thread has made it appear more than it was meant (not intentional).

Just spoke to James at Ilkley, who is supportive of my writing to Giant, as they are meeting with Giant on Wednesday with other issues and intend to bring this one up with them at that time so I should get an update from Ilkley shortly after.

I disagree about writing to a company, if only to bring to their attention something they should have spotted already whether the issue be small or large, and in the case of Giant they seem to have a decent complaint procedure, so I am confident they will respond.

What I mean when I say that its not a big deal, is that I'm sure it'll be sorted. You won't be the only customer with this bike, and Ilkley won't be the only dealer raising it. A dealer "complaining" has exponentially more impact than an individual for obvious reasons.

I'm sure it'll be sorted, so the issue is only temporary, so just enjoy the bike, don't worry about the speed, and leave Ilkley to do the job you've paid them to do... which is deal with the issues for you.

As I said, good advice.. and I dont want it to sound like a dealer complaint which it isn't..
I will shelve my letter of disappointment for later
Haha! :D Don't tell me that my granddad got shot in the arschloch at Arnhem for nothing please!

The UK national speed limit is now 112kph.. As far as you're concerned Phill. :)
Cor that seems fast! I must add that when I glanced down and saw 65 on the speedo I immediately slowed down in panic!! Well, not panic exactly but it was a wow moment to be sure.. as they say in Germany
