    Crystalyte 408 bike for sale

For sale: My custom ebike. I loved this bike so much, but I've not really ridden it for a while now. It deserves to be used properly! :) It's base is a 16" mountain bike frame, with RST front suspension. This size frame gives a really great riding position for me (5' 8"), with plenty of seat...

    Hill climbing

This probably won't be very helpful, however in my local town there is a mountain, and a Victorian tram that runs up the side at a 1 in 3 gradient. I have cycled up this with my direct drive hub motor (Crystalyte 408 at 36v) at a steady 10 mph. Now I won't kid you, it took considerable effort...

    Helmet debate... new twist

I am 100% against compulsory anything. People, in general, are not stupid. I would much rather try to ensure that people have the necessary information and statistics to make an informed decision for their own safety. All this 'nanny' stuff is adversely affecting society as a whole. The...

Complying with UK laws on an overpowered ebike

With all the recent discussions regarding legislation changes and my own frustration at not being able to do what I want legally, I am wondering what would be necessary to comply with the laws on a more powerful ebike. As I understand it, if you are over the 200w (or soon 250w) limit your...

    Change in e-bike legislation

I've been using my ebike for the past couple of weeks on a daily basis to get to work. My average speed on the flat is 20mph, and I have been passed on 3 separate occasions by police cars. They didn't even look at me. I think that as long as you are riding safely, and not doing the common...

    Pedal Sensors

I currently have a crystalyte motor and controller, and when I fitted it, I disabled the pedal assist finction byt modifying the controller. Now that the new regulations are being reviewed (See Flecc's post) I think I need to reconsider the use of the pedal sensor. I have some concerns...

    Change in e-bike legislation

All this stuff talking about having a plate with motor power and battery voltage fitted by the manufaturer is somewhat confusing. My bike's "manufacturer" is me. I am I supposed to make a plate and fit it myself? Where should this plate be? On the frame? If so, whats stopping different...

    First electric commute!

UPDATE! :) After riding to and from work yesterday (12 miles total), I decided not to charge the battery yet, and do some more riding today. So today I did my usual to-work-and-back route on the same charge. The battery meter on my throttle (which only has high and low) was still showing high...

Disappointment! And a nice "Plan B"

It was actually really simple. 1) Unscrew and open the case. 2) Locate the small connector which has two pins with a short wire loop joining them together. 3) Unplug this connector. (Keep it safe :)) 4) Close and re-screw the case. I have a picture at home which I'll post later for you.

    Angry guy on eBay

I looked at some ebay listings from that seller when I was researching my own kit. The claims he made in his adverts were blatant lies, and extremely misleading. I reported him to ebay there and then, but heard nothing back. It really pays to do your homework before you make a purchase!

    First electric commute!

Hijacked my topic! lol :) Anyway, I fitted my new speedometer after work yesterday, so I now have speed and cadence figures. There was a slight wind after work, so I did a test going in both directions on the same level road. No pedalling: Headwind - 17mph Tailwind - 19mph...

    First electric commute!

This morning I had my first real commute to work! I set off at 7am, and arrived at 7:20am. This is a 6 mile trip. Since I have no cycle computer yet, this is my best way to work out my average speed. 18mph - not bad at all! Consider this, based on my usual travel times by car, and...

    Cadence

I've always tried to maintain a high cadence, and while reading this article I became a little confused! Can someone explain why using a fast cadence uses slow twitch fibres, and slow cadence uses fast twitch fibres? This seems counter intuitive to me. Thanks

Disappointment! And a nice "Plan B"

Thanks for the comments so far! :) Hopefully it will look neater when I get a rear rim which matches the front. The battery a 36v 9Ah Li-Ion.
