This morning I had my first real commute to work!

I set off at 7am, and arrived at 7:20am. This is a 6 mile trip. Since I have no cycle computer yet, this is my best way to work out my average speed. 18mph - not bad at all!

Consider this, based on my usual travel times by car, and un-assisted bike:
Car (4x4 gas guzzler!) - 15 minutes - 24mph average
EBike - 20 minutes - 18mph average
Normal bike - 25 minutes - 14.4mph average

The is a clear average speed increase on the ebike over the non-ebike. This is surely due to not having to slow down on the hills, since the top speed is not much different to what I could do with just pedalling.

BUT!!!
I'm not all hot and sweaty when I arrive! Bonus! :D

It gives you a go anywhere attitude, any hill no problem, in fact hills are where an ebike feels most at home.

it would be helpful if under everyone's screen name it had what bike/bikes they are using........

It makes for better understanding. they do this on the motorhome forums I am in.

I bought a likle magnetic key box and stuck it in a chassis member when I bought the van. a happy ending.......

That's a great advert for e-biking.

I'd like to see how those figures would be if there was a traffic jam - I commute to Colchester each day - it takes a soul destroying 30 mins in a car to get from the West side of the town to the South East

Signatures are a great idea, it puts a better context to the thread if you know what bike/s each member owns or rides.

I think it's also helpful if members put their approximate location at the top too, as it gives an idea of the type of terrain they are normally dealing with.

Totally agree, I went for a ride Saturday, 22 mile, started out about 7:45am got back home 9:20am. I'm by no means the fittest person in the world and can honestly say that I probably would not have done this on an unassited bike. Everybody should try an E-Bike:)

Hijacked my topic! lol :)

Anyway, I fitted my new speedometer after work yesterday, so I now have speed and cadence figures.

There was a slight wind after work, so I did a test going in both directions on the same level road.

No pedalling:
Headwind - 17mph
Tailwind - 19mph

Pedalling as I would when cruising along (90 rpm cadence)
Headwind - 19mph
Tailwind - 21mph

Edit: My sig should be working!

If you are anywhere near north wales coast, perhaps you'd like to meet up to try out each other's bikes? :D
