    Rear break pads

Depends on use, but given the rear brake of a bike only does about 10 per cent of the braking, you might like to have a think about your braking technique.

    Throttle on Wisper folder

I don't understand the electrics, but would suggest a thumb throttle for starting purposes. The half-grip twist ones are easy to twist too far and break, particularly when starting because we all tend to grip the bars tighter doing that, even though there's no need to.

Not a Gtech specific thread but lets talk about dealership attitude.

I rather hope so. Me and d8 have a couple of swipes at each other occasionally, but it's then all forgotten. Which is how it should be.

    Which bike to buy?

Cadence would be a problem for most of us, assuming the bike requires some effort. At 14/42, anything over 25mph is 100rpm+, which takes some doing. http://www.bikecalc.com/cadence_at_speed

Not a Gtech specific thread but lets talk about dealership attitude.

In this thread we have Beach, a nutty professor who says he operates on a higher plane than the rest of us. And we have d8veh, a patronising teacher trying to tell everyone how to behave. It's two fingers from me up to the pair of them.

    Raleigh Captus

Displays have been known to give trouble if the bracket bolts are too tight. It would be worth loosening the bolts so the bracket moves, them nipping them up only as tight as to hold the bracket in place. That's all the bolts need to do, they don't hold the bike together.

    2.4 " off road tyres

Grip at the front, traction at the back. But only if you accept there's much of a difference between the two. Some mountain bikers fit the rear tyre 'reversed' - against the rotation arrow on the sidewall - because a V-shaped tread in that configuration will supposedly give more traction.

Arrrg where do I get a new battery?

Probably when Bosch do a generation three. Sounds flippant, but if I recall pattern generation one batteries only became available when they were either superseded or close to it.

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Seems to me Perseus has a very cautious attitude to risk. Nothing wrong with that, but all his reliability concerns can never be satisfied. In that respect, I don't think any ebike is for him.

    Regular or Fat e-bike?

Fat bikes are good for soft trails, sand, snow, mud, and also perfectly suitable for harder trails. What they are not suitable for is asphalt. The wide, soft tyres will be hard to push at any speed, even with a motor, and will wear at an alarming rate. I imagine they might also 'track' on...

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

Doesn't help legally, the bike is still not road legal so if events conspire against you, you will be in bother. It all depends on your attitude to risk and law breaking.

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

You may not attract attention, although if you are routinely seen around a small place such as Hull you might. Going 15/20mph is one thing, 30 another. Both speeds are illegal on an ebike, but you are far less likely to attract attention if you ride at speeds a rider on a push bike could manage.

    Regular or Fat e-bike?

A fat bike is not suitable for that use, although you can, of course, ride your bike wherever you like.

Arrrg where do I get a new battery?

Several Yamaha owners on here showing interest in a new battery. Does this indicate the early Yamaha batteries are already starting to lose capacity? If so, that's a bit disappointing, and may be one of the reasons why Yam bikes are usually cheaper than equivalent Bosch ones.

    Haibike - minor woe

I have one of these pattern batteries which has proved reliable. Not much cheaper than a Bosch one, although slightly more capacity. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/E-Bike-Ersatzakku-Power-Pack-13-Ah-468-Wh-36V-fur-Bosch-Classic-Unterrohr-/262079812829?hash=item3d052c94dd

    2.4 " off road tyres

I will second Eddie's advice about checking clearance. The latest 2" and wider tyres are big in all directions and may not fit every 29er frame or fork. Quite commonly bike makers put a 29er fork with 650b/27.5 mountain bike tyres, and even then there's not loads of clearance. Magic Mary is a...
