    Sourcing motors and batteries

I've been through a similar thought process to you - don't know if my build log will be of any help to you. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/9442-new-build.html It doesn't look like this now but this when I had it nice and light with an easy to remove battery. I have...

Replace waterproof connector for the motor

The GBK motor I ordered from them can with a nomal round 9 pin waterproof connector on it (and another 2m of cable to connect to the controller).

Thanks VHF man - I think you've made my mind up - deffinately going to get a CNG kit for my full sus - seems to be ticking all the boxes. Thanks for the upload!

    Liquid air, or hot air?

Yes, because puncturing a different vessel carrying 70 litres of highly flammable liquid would be a better.

    Liquid air, or hot air?

THanks Flecc - you've saved me the trouble of writing a response - I agree with you entirely!

    Liquid air, or hot air?

Why God forbid? It's a viable mid term solution imo.

    GNG Crank-drive kit

According to some on here if you have 251watts or more and the bike assists above 17.05mph then it's a moped! Common sense has no place in those debates!

Illegal electric bike fastest in Oxford commuter challenge

This commute takes between 30 and 45 mins in the car depending on time of day (I don't take that route in the summer holidays!). Goodness knows how long it would take by public transport - around 1.5hrs probably. I'm always quicker than the car when I take my bike :-)

    GNG Crank-drive kit

Hmm, thinking 44.4v 12s lipo and programmable controller to bring the amps back down. What's the top speed like? Anything more than about 24mph on my mtb and I could keep up pedaling.

    Lithium Sulphide

Are they as safe at Lifepo4 cells? The size of batteries doesn't bother me but the weight does. I'd be willing to get one and strip it out of the case and encase it in some cf sheeting and pop it in a pannier bag. As soon as a battery beats my lipo packs for weith I'm on it!

    Fancy this kit?

    GNG Crank-drive kit

So noise - and I know it's subjective - is it an "omg everyone is going to stare at me and wonder what the hell I'm doing" noise or is it a "this is pretty noisy but I wont feel self concious riding it and wind noise is louder anyway" noise?

    GNG Crank-drive kit

Oh, and before you fit it d8veh could you weigh it?

    GNG Crank-drive kit

d8veh - GNG have confirmed the controller can take upto 63v (15s lipo) batteries :-) But you'll not be able to pedal fast enough with a 63v battery! You could swap the freewheel on the motor out though to bring it back in line. Discussion on endless sphere suggests motor can take the...

    New PowerPak

Yeah, that's why I was wondering about downtube mounting:- I liked it when I had my battery in my commuters frame - the battery outgrew the box though :-( And the box alone was 1kg!

    New PowerPak

Hi Frank - any photos of one mounted on the down tube? My full sus bike is eyeing me suspiciously!

    New PowerPak

Yours? Yes, I quite agree :p Looks ok to me. And 5.5kg for 48v/15ah + controller is pretty darn good. My 63/12ah battery is 5kg when you include all the wiring and that's without an enclosure and they both have nearly the same w/hrs available. A 48v/15ah battery has the same w/hrs as a...

    New PowerPak

Nice Frank - that is seriously small for a 48v15ah Pack - must have worked really hard on your packaging! Are they LiCoNm cells? It's great products and designs like these that will tempt me away from DIY builds (I don't DIY to save money - I DIY because very few companies offer the...
