    Cyclotricity Stealth

Just figuired out who you are :-) You need to check the bottom bracket width on the Trek first before decding on cranks drive - it needs to be 68mm wide. Personally, on that bike, I'd be fitting a rear hub motor - something small, light and stealthy. It has a 10spd cassette so the Q100 CST...

    Cyclotricity Stealth

I converted a Trek FX 7.5 (see here) and commuted 5k miles on it in 18 months - through wind, rain, snow, sand and salt (sea front commute) loaded with pannier bags and laptops and it's held up brilliantly with just the normal chain and cassette replacement required which is normal wear and...

    Oxydrive on a road bike

I've run a Tongxin on carbon forks with two torque arms (dropouts on carbon forks are still alloy so can be filed down):- Power was 600 watts peak. I wouldn't run any more than that though - even the Cute Q100 motors I would consider too torquey for CF forks - I changed mine over to steel...

    New build.

Actually - I didn't follow through with the order so that exactly what I'm going to do! Thanks for the inspiration :) All done (except relocationg the CA).:- Quick test ride shows it topping out at 24mph no pedalling - bang on where I wanted it. Set three speed switch to give approx 13mph...

    New build.

Nearly done, just cabling to tidy up now. Rear wheel installed - motor is barely bigger than the 11-26t cassette. Needed an extra washer in between the frame and the 11t cog. Controls installed. Working from left to right - thumb throttle, cycle analyst V2.3, power switch and push button...

    Cycling

The sooner there is a clamp down on bad cyclists (running red lights, hopping on and off pavements, riding contrary to the highway code etc) the better imho. You'll generally find that those riding non legal ebikes tend to ride like saints in all other respects - you need to pass under the...

    Electric bike blog spam?

The Computer Misuse Act has never been used to deal with spam directly - the act is more concerned with unauthorised access to computers or using those computers to conduct an illegal activity - of which blog spam is neither. Now spam email is another matter, as that's covered under the...

    Electric bike blog spam?

ETS wont be doing spamming intentionally of even themselves. What they've probably done is paid a Search Engine Optimisation company to improve their web foot print (quite a legitimate endevour for any business), and it's that company who have released their bots to do the work. Trace the IP's...

Is it road-legal to restrict a 500W motor?

Depends who's at fault and how serious the accident is I suppose. If it's a "non fault" accident for the rider, then I don't think it will matter as they'll claim costs back from the third party - your insurance company wouldn't be interested in your bike at all and the third party will be...

Is it road-legal to restrict a 500W motor?

Whom do you mean by they? The rider or the seller? If it's the rider - then obviously a rider of a non compliant ebike will not be covered by insurance. If it's the seller - well - there's nothing wrong with selling non compliant ebikes as long as they are honest about it, so there shouldn't...

Is it road-legal to restrict a 500W motor?

What? I ran 2500 watts through my MAC front motor and it didn't fall off....................... Ok, when I nailed the throttle it left a 10 ft black line on the cycle path, but that's besides the point :) Who NEEDS a full carbon fibre racing bike? No one. But you see loads of them about...

Is it road-legal to restrict a 500W motor?

I know where d8veh is going with the above. I've been on 250w rated EN5194 compliant bikes that have pulled almost 1000 watts from the battery.............................................

    New build.

My last Q100 worked fine with the same controller from EM3EV - they are EB3 series based which are fine with high commutation motors. Motor speed is 201rpm.

    New build.

Latest project - just got the hub (Q100 rear cassette model), rim and spokes delivered and built it into a wheel this afternoon. Currently waiting on an EM3EV 6fet programmable controller and a CA V2.3 computer.

Building new ebike need suggestions on a kit & bike

Have a look at the Bafang BBS02 in either 48v500w or 48v750w flavour. They'll be able to cope fine - in fact the 36v350w BBS01 will easily haul 120kg as well, it's just the other two will have a bit more grunt. Just make sure the bike you're fitting it to has a 68mm bottom bracket and ideally...

Building new ebike need suggestions on a kit & bike

Strongest would be a rear motor fitted into a steel framed bike with thick torque arms, but to be honest, even an alloy frame with two good torque arms either side should be able to cope with a measly 1000 watts. I ran 750 watts on carbon fibre front forks with two properly fitted torque arms...
