Scottish borders/Edinburgh - any riders or Bafang users?

Pity that you're not in Fife as I'd be glad to let you have a wee shottie on my Moulton which has a Bafang front hub.

Hi guys, old man's attempt at getting fit!

With the chain on the smallest rear cog I would expect the pulley cage to be in a vertical position as a way of checking for correct chain length.

ARCC Moulton and the Process of Getting There (LONG)

@Templogin.........good to know that you're still riding and happy with your bike. I have never regretted buying mine as I've now reached the stage where I'm not able to use a conventional machine. It's going to be perfect for buzzing about town doing my shopping and I continue to be impressed...

Hardly "overlooking" your point when I've already said this: "Cycling has other attractions however in that being outside in the fresh air and the sheer joy of cycling means that one is more likely to stick with cycling as a fitness programme than some other activity which is less enjoyable...

    Chain jumping/slipping under load

Shimano tells us that these different shaped teeth aid the gear-shifting in some way. I know little or nothing about e-bikes but I take it that having a mid-engined bike means increased wear on the transmission parts?

    Chain jumping/slipping under load

I see nothing wrong with the cassette or the sprocket...nor should there be after 300 miles. I'm surprised they didn't change the chain at the same time as the cassette as this is the usual practice in that a partly worn chain may give trouble with a new cassette. It's a pity that you tend to...

    Chain jumping/slipping under load

You talked about your chain-ring looking like a saw blade and presumably you meant the typical "shark's fin" profile which is caused by extensive wear. Given that this is a new bike it's very unlikely I would have thought that this is the cause and God knows I have changed hundred's of...

Overweight and looking for what to buy.

An overweight person and unfit to boot is unlikely to use the calories cycling that other activities use within a certain time. The Mayo Clinic listed 36 forms of exercise by their calorific impact and leisure cycling burns 364/hour for a 200lb person whereas running at 5mph burns 755...

Overweight and looking for what to buy.

Absolutely right and this is something most often overlooked by those seeking to lose weight. It's the combination of cutting calories and exercise that is necessary and cutting calories alone will affect the fat/muscle ratio in that it is muscle and not fat which will be first affected.

Overweight and looking for what to buy.

If ones aim is to reduce weight and burn calories then other forms of exercise will do this more efficiently. As far your other point perhaps this might be interpreted as similar to what I said in my post? "Cycling has other attractions however in that being outside in the fresh air and the...

Overweight and looking for what to buy.

All very encouraging I'm sure but my point remains regarding the efficiency of a bike. "A human being travelling on a bicycle at 16–24 km/h (10–15 mph), using only the power required to walk, is the most energy-efficient means of human transport generally available."...

    Chain jumping/slipping under load

This is a new bike so it's unlikely that the chain-ring's teeth are so worn as to cause this problem. If the chain-ring has been bent and has a wobble then that could be responsible but it's more likely to be the rear Der hanger being out of true. That said...everything is mere speculation until...

Overweight and looking for what to buy.

It's great that people want to get fit and lose weight but in my opinion cycling...and even more so e-assisted cycling... may not be the most efficient way to achieve this. The bike is such an efficient machine that it requires substantial effort in order to lose weight and acquire fitness. It...

    Chain jumping/slipping under load

Looking at the chain it does seem that it's not too long. It's very difficult to see from your image if the pulley is directly below the engaged sprocket. If you do not have a stiff link then I suggest your local bike shop and ask them to check the Gear hanger. Where do you live exactly as if...

Ah weel to answer his query you would need to photograph the whole transmission from chainwheel to the rear Der.

    Chain jumping/slipping under load

To check if the hanger is bent the image must be taken from directly behind the bike in line with the Rear Der and focusing on the Rear Der showing the chain on a sprocket. The top pulley should be positioned directly below the sprocket bearing the chain. If it isn't then the chain will...
