Thanks for your reply, however you haven't answered the question I posed....

Out of curiosity, why are you on an ebike forum @budsy if you don't like ebikes?

    scooters

Agreed. Like so much modern govt' policy it's been conceived by people with no concept of the real world, who exist entirely in the "Westminster bubble". Such a missed opportunity....

I bet the old bill are loving that. At least currently they know on sight that anyone using one is breaking the law. From Saturday, they've gotta work out whether it's a rental or not....

    Bafang mid mount motor

Great work Rob. Looks a bit clean for my liking though- time to get her muddy! As a side-note, those tyres look like Schwalbe Land Cruisers....let me know how you get on in the mud with them (I'm considering a set for myself)....cheers. Enjoy!

    Looking for broken midrive please.

Yeah, the SRM link was only intended to give a flavour of what's involved in such a conversion. Thankfully my TSDZ is running fine (though give me 6 months and I'll probably have wrecked it!) Good luck with the hunt and when your Dad finishes it, show us some piccies....

    Hub motor wheel building

If you decide to go down the professional route, don't let a few lazy bike shops put you off. Spoked wheels aren't exclusive to pushbikes and there's some very talented wheelbuilders in the world of classic cars and motorbikes with transferrable skills.

    Looking for broken midrive please.

That's the easy bit (in theory) with chain drives. Making it functional, aesthetically pleasing and not irreversibly damaging a classic Norton in the process is the hard bit!

    Looking for broken midrive please.

@Staps, forgive me for taking the thread off-track but I'm very passionate that old bikes (and older riders) should keep riding. Is it just the dreaded "cold morning start" that your Dad is struggling with? If so, this might be an alternative: http://www.solomotorcycleproducts.com/starter.html...

Definitely for the end user. But a good way for a manufacturer/ supplier to improve component life and thus reduce warranty claims....

    Looking for broken midrive please.

That's a really interesting engineering challenge, and I admire your Dad's ambition. Personally however, I think your Dad is starting from the wrong base-point. Assuming the Norton is a 500/650 twin, or a 350/500 single, they take a serious kick to get them running. I don't think the TSDZ's...

    Attaching trailer help

It looks as though the centre of the axle is hollow. If so, you might be able to tap it and hold the hitch on with a smaller bolt passing through the middle of the axle nut. Only if the axle isn't hardened....

    TSDZ2 hitting chainstay! (Pics)

10/10 for ingenuity, but what happens when you need to heat up some soup! This might help next time (not with the soup).... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-M33-Metric-Aluminium-Washer-Flat-Ring-General-Purpose-Industrial-DIY/274287272944?hash=item3fdccba3f0:g:g60AAOSwTtheVnXW

TSDZ2 Crank fell off - what spec for replacement nut?

How long have you had the TSDZ on it?
  18. Gavin

    Looking for broken midrive please.

What bike is he trying to start? The maximum cadence on a TSDZ is 90rpm if I recall correctly. That won't be quick enough to spark a bike engine. If you use a chain to increase the rpm you reduce the torque and you'll need a sprag or dog clutch to disengage the TSDZ. That's a challenging job....

TSDZ2 Crank fell off - what spec for replacement nut?

In my case I'm confident that they're tight enough. 40NM isn't massively tight. I don't measure mine when I do them up but if anything they're probably tighter than that. I've also had the main shaft "nut" come loose a couple of times as well. I'm wondering if a combination of motor vibration...

Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

@flecc- thanks for this. I'm sure you (and the others) have all heard my questions a million times before from other confused people but as it's all new to me, thanks for your patience...
