    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

I now have the wheel back & fitted and rode into work on it this morning. All seems well & I now know the rear wheel removal process like the back of my hand! I'm hoping that solves the problem. The narrower rear tyres, plus much higher pressures have raised the possibility of raising the...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

Well, I don't think the change of tyre has affected things, as the rear wheel has needed truing several times since I bought it. Anyhow, on a ride yesterday, there was a distinct bump coming from the rear wheel. I was worried that the new tyre was coming off (unlikely, seeing as what a bugger it...

Continental Contact Plus Reflex Tyres (700c x 28mm)

I will review how they ride once I have ridden the bike, but I would just like to add a word of caution. These are the most difficult tyres to fit I have ever encountered. I have fitted hundreds of tyres in my time and always coped, albeit with special equipment. These bastards made me swear...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

Not much else to report, other than the bike is still performing very well. The only change of note is that I have just swapped the Schwalbe tyres it came with - which had split sidewalls due to the first owner running them on too low a pressure - and replaced them with much thinner Continental...

Zefal Cyclop Triple Adjustment Bar End Mounted Bike Mirror

As an update, I managed to tighten up the screw mentioned above and the mirror is now much more stable when riding. In fact, it survives cobbled canal ramps without moving. So, it's a good buy. If i were to be picky, it's that the viewing area doesn't quite suit me. I think I'd prefer a square...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

I've done the 14-mile each way commute a few times now and the bike has performed impeccably. The headset needed tightening up, but that was an easy task. It handles the canal towpath well, although it was dry. It wouldn't be such fun once we have prolonged rain to make it soggy again. I'm...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

Wheel buckle now fixed and Slime gel added to the tubes. If only I had got my act together better this week, I could've taken advantage of the good weather and ridden in during the fine spell we've had. A 3-4-mile test ride suggests all is well and the bike is ready to be used for the commute...

Suggest a better value bike than this, please...

Thanks for that. I'll check which generation of motor they're using. I have a Badass dongle and it would be good to be able to switch it over.

Suggest a better value bike than this, please...

I currently have an Ortler Wien 7-speed commuter and it is brilliant. I'm thinking of upgrading to one of these: https://www.bikester.co.uk/739015.html mainly because of the disc brakes, more powerful Bosch motor and larger battery. It's £1720, give or take, which seems to be excellent value to...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

I haven't used the bike much of late, but I used it on my 14-mile commute to work earlier this week. On the way, in pleasantly sunny weather, I averaged 18.2MPH, doing the trip in 46 minutes with the bike in Sport mode and Turbo after about half way. Going back, cramp set in due to my lack of...

    Birdy Electric

This thread seems to have neen resolved, but I'll add my thoughts about the Birdy. It's a superb machine, inasmuch as the ride is vastly superior to the Brompton. Larger wheels and full suspension see to that. It really is a delight to ride. However, the fold is vastly inferior to the Brompton...

The Panda Kit is still available. How about £175 posted?

Zefal Cyclop Triple Adjustment Bar End Mounted Bike Mirror

Ah, thanks! I'll take a look at the weekend. The instructions are rather scant and that adjuster isn't immediately apparent. When I say scant, there isn't one word...

Zefal Cyclop Triple Adjustment Bar End Mounted Bike Mirror

Thanks for the reply. I am happy to be proved wrong, but I assembled the thing using all the screws. The plane I am talking about is the one that allows the user to rotate it out of the way when parked. I can't see any way to adjust that friction. http://www.zefal.com/en/mirrors/105-cyclop.html

Zefal Cyclop Triple Adjustment Bar End Mounted Bike Mirror

I bought this after using a couple of cheapo Chinese mirrors and not being too impressed. I've used it on the commute for a week now and I'm mildly impressed. It fits the swept-back bars on my Ortler, but I think it would fit most types of flat bar. Bought off eBay for £10 and used for a week on...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

I'm getting used to the coaster brake now and find it quite useful when approaching junctions. The downside is that I haven't got used to the fact that I have to get the pedals in the right position when pulling away; I can't back pedal to do so. On another note, I've had the battery run out on...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

Not much to report, as domestic upheaval means I haven't ridden it much. However, I am back in the saddle and spent some time yesterday doing some tweaking. I put the spiked Schwalbe Winters on it and adjusted the brakes. The WInters are slightly larger than the City Cruisers, so mudguard...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

The battery ran out yesterday - my fault. I had a 4-mile journey home and it proved to be a very easy ride home. It runs very well unpowered, which is in contrast with my Oxygen, which is a beast to ride with a flat battery.

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

The bike is running very well. I will soon be fitting the Marathon Winters to it. I did an 18-mile ride on it this afternoon and it did the job admirably. The replacement front light does an adequate job, if not brilliant. I had a new chain fitted and the rear wheel trued recently. The previous...
