If the batteries are interchangeable, have you tried swapping them to see if it's that that's causing the power difference?

I'd be asking if there's any damage or distortion to the rear frame geometry after a clout like that...

Yesterday I did my last commute home in the dusky light. In two weeks, when I'm on the same shift, it will be in the dark and I can let you know how the light performs. It seems bright enough, but the real test is yet to come.
