Which motor for cycle courier build? (60miles per day)

With lot of MTBing my CX gets 1200kms from KMC e11 chain €25, change at 0.75mark. Replace cassette €40 very 3 chains and chainring €8 very chain. My wifes STEPs commuter got 2500kms from 9spd chain. 9spd chains and cassettes are reasonably cheap compared to 11spd and probably harder...

Which motor for cycle courier build? (60miles per day)

The CX drive will be good on hills but hard on drive trains, unless using Nuvinci or Rohloff hubs. Shimano STEPs is not bad climber, batteries are 20-30% cheaper than Bosch and can be used with Nexus or Alfine 8 hubs. Wouldn't recommend 11spd has some reliability issues. There are factory...

    Ortler Wien 7-Speed

Adjusting for chain slack shouldn't be enough to effect magnet/sensor alignment, swapping sprockets or chainrings yes. Shimano recommend 25mm of up and down slack on chain for Nexus. If in doubt go slightly loose, too tight and both hub and motor bearings will be put under constant strain.

New or second-hand Orbea Optima Comfort 10

Expect at least 30% increase in climbing speed with CX, also Eco mode is almost as powerful as Activeline Tour mode. Unless terrain is mainly flat I'd go with CX, it eats hills for breakfast.

eMTB owners photo and ride thread.

Eddie have you considered fitting high performance Bosch powered light to bike, eg supernova or similar. The amount of night riding you do would justify it.

    E Bike Mtb Recommendations

With HT go lower spec, with FS go higher spec. For forest road riding higher spec Trek HT powerfly 7 doesn't justify extra cost over PF 5. In case MTB parking riding the higher FS PF7 is better choice than FS PF 5. I'm using Trek as example, not recommendation. In saying that they are good bikes.

    Tested my helmet today.

My accidents have been MTBing so not unexpected, face first over handlbar. Its falling sideways from nearly stopped that are hard to protect from as you don't have time to use hands to break fall. As my wife's accident and thread author's fall demostrate it can happen anywhere any time.

    Tested my helmet today.

My wife had bad crash doing 5-10kmh on flat cycle way. We think end up falling sideways with her temple (protected by helmet) and cheek being impact points. Still had massive black eye but not head injury. If the helmet hadn't been a good fit her head would 've taken hit. I've had 2 bad MTB...

    Ebike cassettes and chains

I've thought of running 2 chains but decided against as found its best to replace chainring with chain on Bosch CX drive. With full size chainrings I'd be fine with it.

    E Bike Mtb Recommendations

FS Pros Excellent on any surface at speed, going up or down. Hard to beat for MTB park riding. Cons More expensive to buy and maintain. Not ideal for touring due to limited load carrying. Expensive option for commuting. HT Pros Considerable cheaper to buy and maintain. Multi purpose, MTB...

    Price difference

While Altius is reliable basic derailluer, it definitely doesn't belong on a racing bike.

    Ebike cassettes and chains

I got 2500km (changed at 0.75 mark) from 9spd chain on STEPs E6000 which is equivalent to activeline plus. Cassette was still OK at 5000kms on 2nd chain. This was commuter doing lot of climbing so cassette wear was spread around. On flat expect lot of wear on gear that used at 25kmh. I suggest...

    eBike Weight

Where motor is mounted will not cause you to go over front handlebars in crash. The downside to front motor is it can loose traction on step climb. I've had one bad experience on rear hub with rear rack battery where I came of backwards when using throttle.

    Hi Everybody

You should try and do a few test rides of different frame styles eg dutch style step through, MTB, trekking. Also try different drive systems, eg factory middrives like Bosch Shimano and hub drives. Renting for half a day is good way to discover what a ebike is capable of.

Magura HS11 or HS22 are good hydraulic rim brakes, definitely worth upgrading to if you feel Vbrakes aren't good enough.

My first e-bike: how to maintain it? tips and advice [Kudos K16]

See youtube videos on chain and lube types typically wet or dry.. Avoid hosing bike down, better to wipe down with damp cloth. If you do use hose, use in gentle shower mode. Never aim jets of water at bearing locations. If you use degreaser on chain best take it off bike, degreaser dripping...

    wet feet

Ok for my 20 minute commute in heavy rain. Wouldn't recommend them for MTBing.

    Ribble carbon e-bike

You could replace back wheel and remove motor to have light normal bike. Would want double chainring version or 11spd in this case. Might take half hour to do but should be straight forward.
