Don't look now but it's helmets yet again

Specialized 2019 range of helmets have option of ANGi device fitted, higher end helmets come with it while cheaper ones have mounting point for it. If ANGi detects a crash it rings your phone via bluetooth and iRide app, if you don't answer it will send emergency message with our location to...

    35-40 mile round trip commute

If Bosch CX middrive go for 9spd derailleur, spares are cheap, the 300% gear should be all you need. The 10-11spd spares are lot more expensive and need changing more often. For low maintance drive train, go for one with Alfine or Nexus 8spd already fitted to bike. Then fit enclosed chain cover...

    Help with bike for commute

Power delivery is different between factory middrives eg Bosch,Shimano and hub drive motors. Its personal taste thing, try both and see which is right for you. If factory middrive is your preference, the Cube at £1600 is excellent value especially with 500whr battery. Being 9spd maintenance...

    Bosch drive unit maintenance kit

Thanks. Shouldn't be issue courier motor to them for repair. NB first bike had motor changed unwarranty at 6 months, just coming out of warranty now. Not expecting any issues with bearings in near future as I tend to be fair weather rider these days.

    Bosch drive unit maintenance kit

The surprising thing is bosch is encouraging people to open motor and repair it. With 2 CX bikes I'd buy a kit first time. Then replacing individual bearing next time. Would give me bit more confidence before tackling other bearings. Bearing man, anybody in NZ signed up as agent for you yet?

I need some advice on what front forks to buy.

These are 100mm, jump from 50mm to 100mm of travel will effect geometry of bike and handling. 63mm should be ok. NB high unsprung mass of hub motor reduces ability of a fork to react to bumps. One of big downsides of front hub motors. Going to fatter tyres and running them at lower pressures...

    Tyres

Most of green guard rated tyres when run tubeless will give better protection than Plus while providing better ride. Tubeless tyres don't go flat with small punctures like thorns. In case of larger punctures, plug hole with inserts provided in repair kit and inflate tyre, no need to remove tyre...

    Disc Brakes and In-hub Gears

Shimano B01S pads. See videos on changing them. Keep a set of the old pads, useful to have when working on brakes, especially if you need to push pistons right back.

Makita tool batterys with 250w hub

Friend plans to use two 5A Makita batteries in series on his kids bike. We figure cheapest option for mounting them is Makita torches, will need to cut torch in half and mount its battery holder on frame some how. They are designed to deliver very high currents for short periods so drawing 10A...

    Black Friday weekend commuter bike

There are a few threads on people doing similar mileage, Oxygen seems to be popular choice. Not sure UK winter is good time to start doing this. A rack and quality pannier bags are a must for commute of this length.

Thanks Wheeliepete. As for being legal, we are in NZ so not sure of law regarding kids and ebikes. Need to investigate that.

20" rear motor for kids ebike.

Friend wants to fit kit to 20" kids bike. Any advice or recommendations on following would be appreciated. After light rear 250w 36v motor or better wheel. Low weight is more important than power as kid is light plus torque advantage of 20" wheel. Needs to handle Shimano 10spd cassette. Also...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

Make sure she does long test ride first, as with any bike frame fit most thing. Consider 26" wheel bike if she is short.

Trek Fox Valley Sheffield.14 bikes stolen!

Then motor manufacturers need to add security features to motors. Won't stop thefts, but if motor can't operate without factory code, would be hard to sell. Also register for stolen parts would be useful eg battery and motor SNs.
