    E Bike insurance

It's Post Office house insurance for us - which is Ageas underneath. You have to specify the make, model & value. Maximum is £2,500 per e-bike, with a min excess of £100 (I opted for £200 excess to keep cost a bit lower). Bikes under £1,000 are covered without need for details. I can't...

Vanmoof S3 - gear automatically changing

If your group are a friendly bunch, they'll probably let you have a go, Bob - if only to confirm their own excellent decision-making!

Help fast track this noob! Which fitness tracker, helmet, pads and lastly speed box 3.0?

It weighs 1230gm in medium - that is (almost) the same weight as my motorbike helmet! However, the MIPS system is the bees knees, and if you're really going to do 30mph, it's the right way to go. Standard bike helmets are only good for 15mph. As per motorbike helmets, they should be replaced...

    Bike gadgets

Cheap & cheerful tracker - works well: steps, heart rate, sleep monitoring & GPS tracking: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HUAWEI-Band-Pro-Touchscreen-Built-Black/dp/B08179V446/ref=psdc_4294916031_t1_B07H4X3CWD Spend the other £150 on something frivolous. :)

    Mahle EBikeMotion.

100% on red = full power, by default The other two levels will have 100% of whatever power level they're set to be (default is something like green = 100W, orange = 175W?, red = 250W). There is a mention of torque maps here on p 50, image D...

    Mahle EBikeMotion.

I have an Orbea with the same ebikemotion system, and I'm pretty sure it's a completely closed system (bar the app), with no option to change torque. I'm happy to be proved wrong, of course - it would be interesting!

Get rid of those troublesome hubs!

There's a still a bearing in there somewhere, and methinks it's going to be more complex than a hub. It looks cool, but at 55lb it weighs rather a lot. A solution looking for a problem? (There is a Euro spec version on their Indiegogo page though, but you'll need to pay VAT, import duty etc.)

Daytime flashing front light: good or bad idea?

Been there done that - on a tandem. Fence came up a bit quick in the dark, so I put the brakes on. Proudly stopped in time - YESSS! Neither of us took our feet out of the clips. Both of us keeled over laughing like drains on the floor. Fun times. Lights would have helped. ;)

Daytime flashing front light: good or bad idea?

He saw you, right? Job done! However, overly bright bike front lights are a pain. A few I've seen were equivalent to a car's full beam, and stop you seeing details other than the light, which in turn increases the risk to both the lit bike and the oncoming road user.

    Clunking noise

I'm not sure where you live, but if someone on the forum lives nearby, they may be willing to help you. (I'm not sure how that goes down with admins/rules on this site, etc, but it happens regularly on the motorbike forum I administer. There is a conversation option here which appears to be...

    Which GPS aid?

If you just want a GPS tracker + heart monitor the Huawei Band 4 Pro does the trick. Just £47.99 at the moment. We've used the previous model for a couple of years, and for the price it's excellent, although I'd say their claim of 7 hours battery with GPS may be generous. My Band 3 Pro gives ~3...

    Battery replacement

Agreed. I guess that ebike batteries will first get smaller and smaller (with no price change - that's the current stage we're at), until we hit some magical 'adequate' size and power, and at that flex point the price decreases instead, since it becomes a commodity item. There's a limit to how...

    Clunking noise

Going back to the rear brake: 1. If it was the same noise as previously, then I'd investigate the blocks/brake. Here's a clean description of how to do that (I think, from your second image, your brakes are similar to these): https://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/linear-pull-brake-service 2...

    Clunking noise

What type of brakes do you have? Maybe hard braking has loosened their fittings. Bit unusual, though. Other random thought: Turning the handlebars AND the back brake are in two different places, with only the rear brake cable to connect them. Anything odd going on with the rear brake cable?

Don`t leave home without one of these .

Rarely enough for me, maybe a once a year if that (approx 1000- 1500 miles/yr). Prior to the ebike I've used them for about 5 years on a standard touring bike with few problems. The punctures I've had are nearly all down to hedging detritus sprayed across the roads - hawthorn is the killer...
