    Help! Tyres deflating

At great risk of teaching Grandma how to suck eggs... Whip the tubes off, pump them up a little, dip them under water and look for bubbles - take a few seconds for each section since they're obviously small leaks. Check the valve for bubbles too. If they're Presta valves, do the screw up tight...

    Cowboy ebike Guardian review

The Guardian is one of the few world news sites without a multi-millionaire owner that has some ulterior agenda. You may not like the politics, but their investigative journalism is a refreshing alternative to Murdoch, et al. However, in this particular case, I'd agree it's a poor article, and...

Insurance Home content or specialist? Pros and Cons

Go for the CyclingUK membership. It's a charity, so you'll support cycling in the UK, and get an excellent magazine to read every 2 months. What's not to like?

How many of you also own and ride a regular bike?

How about electric road bike for exercise, and electric road bike switched on (with mudguards and rack) for utility? With it switched off I definitely get the same exercise as my old road bike. So it's one bike for me.

    Newbie needing touring bike

You're right - most of the Orbeas are aimed at roads, but they do have a fat tyre version - the Gain D31 with simpler gearing for less grief when off-road. Probably a sensible choice if you're tackling urban canals, with glass, crud, etc.

    Newbie needing touring bike

I agree the Ribble SLe looks good if you want to go light - 12.4Kg for a Medium frame is what they quote. Or if you want a little extra strength, maybe the CGR Al e gravel one at 13.8Kg. They both use the same Mahle ebikemotion system as the Orbea, so the same pros and cons go with them in terms...

    Newbie needing touring bike

Good point! I did look into converting my Mercian with a mid-drive conversion (the Tongsheng TSDZ2), but the gear cables running (very tidily) under the bottom bracket messed that option up for me. I've chosen to leave the Mercian alone and sell it to a younger owner, rather than hack it about...

    Newbie needing touring bike

I can give you my opinion on the light bike angle, but not for heavier bikes. I've gone from a 20 year-old steel-framed Mercian audax/tourer to a basic Orbea Gain (D50). I was worried it was quite a big step down in quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Orbea Gain frame and equipment is...

    Hub motor wheel building

I'm no wheelbuilding expert, but this ebike-specific spoke calculator looked quite sweet when I was looking recently, since you get to see the result: https://www.ebikes.ca/tools/spoke-calc.html

Halfords - What to Make of This?

For (several) Orbea bikes, from the user manual, it's: - 115Kg rider (18st 1lb) - 15Kg rear pannier So the 'real' / recommended max seems to be 130Kg. I have also seen 120Kg rider max for a Boardman ADV 8.9e, but I couldn't find that info again. Both are sold by Halfords, note. But obviously...

Insurance for electric bike - looking for a recommendation and advice

Insurance for theft: £3.98 from the Halifax for two named/valued bikes (£2k each) on their standard home insurance. Although their website says electric bikes aren't covered, assisted ones, i.e. pedelecs are, if you ring. Insurance in terms of crashing/3rd party damage: join Cycling UK. They...

Puncture on rear wheel on electric bikes!

Or maybe carry some small allen keys so you can loosen & rotate the gubbins on the handlebars. Or sit it gently on grass/jumper, since most of the weight is at the back. Also consider the gubbins - do they all need to be up top? For example, my bell is now underneath, but still reachable. Once...

whats the difference between Orbea F30 and F40 flat bar?

For Orbea Gains as the number goes up the quality goes down. So D50/F50 is entry level, climbing up to M10. So a D40 is slightly lower spec than a D30. As Kirsten rightly says it's probably the groupset. And the letter means: F - flat bar D - drop bar M - carbon (eh?!) Full specs here...

How Does a BMS REALLY Work? As it seems that many here apparently do not know exactly!

    > I would like each and everyone to post their thoughts after they have fully watched the video, from beginning to end. I did. It only covers cell balancing. If your intention was to just cover cell balancing, the length of post and a 22 min video was overkill. I'm regretting it now, but too...

    Introducing the new Woosh Rambla

Very tidy! Just two suggested minor improvements: 1. Front mudguard is woefully short (back one is spot on) 2. Seat probably needs to be a more 'supportive/cushy' type to attract upright riders. Oh, and add a chain, eh. ;)

Price. Swiftly followed by perceived threat of theft. Reliability. Longevity. Range anxiety. Weight. 15.5mph. Finding that 250W and a Cat 4 hill will still bring you out in a muck sweat (my fault for being porky, not the bike's ;)) Accidental undercharged battery. A locked battery that you...

Does anybody know the proper name for this please?

Not quite sure what the cap does - are the two pins connected together, or is it just a waterproof cover? Yours looks like the 2 pins aren't aligned perpendicular to the 'key'/indentation in the green plastic, like most 2-pin connectors would be. Or are there more pins in there? Maybe a photo...
