I have just wiped the dirt off my motor, and that is a Shengyi. I bought it from Panda over four years and 12,000 miles ago. It's still quiet, pulls well and gets me where I want to go every day. I saw a video on this firm, and was surprised how big they are. They make a centre-drive motor as well.

My bike is front hub, and has done me well for over 12,000 miles. You have more choice over the type of transmission - hub gears, automatic etc.

Just the hub gears and roller brake would be £99, so you got a bargain. No more projects for me until I've cleared everything out!

If you look at the Ebikes Direct site, do a search under hub-driven bikes and start with the cheapest, that will give you an idea of what is available. For a 4 km trip, there are bikes there of decent quality. I prefer the battery in a central position - it keeps the weight in the right place...
